Chapter 6. A Sudden Decision

The busy City never sleeps, it just keeps active day and night. Cars honking in the streets , music playing inside the malls, people chatting and eating inside the restaurants and even the sound created by the footsteps of everyone that is walking to and from. I wonder how the rogues live in this place together with humans everyday. It is just too noisy and crowded, too many distractions.

We had a quick looked out to the area before the planned attack at dawn.

Our plan is to execute the attack in the mid of dawn when vehicles are less and there are only very few human beings around. My father has a spy that knows the hide out of the rogues in the City, giving us a perfect timing for an attack. After the bridge which connects the vast City and the world owned by the Royal pack, lies the structure built by the rogues.

Who would have thought they were able to build the building and made a huge place which accommodates their families. While in the day time they blend in with humans and do a normal job, most of them return to their place at night. I heard there are a few wolves who has rented the expensive apartments and condo units around the City as well. Living their life but also doing the things that's forbidden, they use their strengths in order to get the things they want out of the weak humans and no one can fight them.

It is around three o'clock in the morning, we began walking in the streets at the portal of the City. The stillness of the air around us is giving me a heads up. The rogues have left their scents around the place.

"So this place gets quiet at dawn at least." Is what I said while taking of the shirt above my head, trying to think of the best thing to do with the rogue scents that I can sniff.

"Seems like it, and we don't want to hurt any of the humans as much as possible. So now is the best time to fulfill our mission."

Beta Derek did the same,removing his own set of clothing while the car is behind us. He was first to drop on the ground and shifted into his full wolf form. A big dark furry wolf, in all his strong features.

Our clothes is being taken care of by another warrior who is supposed to stay on guard with all the vehicles.

I began to crack my bones starting behind my back down to my legs letting my wolf blood take over, my paws and my thick coat came out. I am blessed with the color in between black and white with silver streaks that makes me very different from a normal wolf in the Royal pack. The other warriors have started shifting into their wolf forms too.

Following Beta Derek and me is Alex and the other warriors of the pack in their full wolf form. Our scents and energy have invaded the silent streets. While the others are alert, I am more focus on the fight that is going to happen, the blood is already boiling inside my veins.

My ears perk when I picked up the faint sound of a wolf running in a farther distance. "Alex! chase the dog who wants to get away, he's running in speed but you can tackle this one."

Alex wiggled his dark bushy tail and inhale the scent lingering in the air before speeding up to catch the rogue. "I will make it fast your majesty, i'll be back in a few minutes."

When his form vanished in the dark alley of the street, we continued our searched but then... "Stop everyone!"

My loud voice echoed through our mind link and everybody did as I instructed. The hairs behind my back straightened and I started groaning. Beta Derek sharpened his eyes and then in the shadows a group of wolves emerges. One by one in every corner of that street the rogues showed themselves. I could hear there heartbeats and the vile eyes that glows in the dark areas, there were too many of them some are just hiding in the shadows of the tall buildings.

"What the hell!? This is supposed to be our attacked!

Beta Derek uttered a series of expletives and growled. Dark wolves came out of hiding in all size and shape. They were standing with an arrogant form, the place is under their rule. This is their territory now and it seems that the humans have given this up to them based on the scents that lingers through the wind.

"Damn it!"

I gritted my teeth and get ready for the fight. I will die before I let this rogues rule the whole City! This part of the world belongs to the humans.

One big wolf with a long scar that runs from his snout up until the top of his furry head walked out of the group. Within a split second the big wolf shifted into his human form. Tall well built and angry looking middle aged man.

"Well, what do we have here? Warriors from the Royal pack, am I right?"

We all growled in answer. I looked at him deeply, I can sense his strength and power, I wonder how they acquired this many wolves in number. But yeah I can sense it now, most of these wolves that surrounds us are not born with fangs, they are humans. The rogues have made them wolves, there is no doubt that this is what they did in most of the people in the City.

Beta Derek step forward and shifted into his human form, he was quick to face our enemy.

"Yes we are the warriors of the royal pack and we have come to put an end to your terror in this City!"

Beta Derek shouted and meet his gaze, the big man has almost the same built as Beta Derek and he does not look afraid, instead his eyes sparkled in amusement.

"You are not the Great Alpha King, how are you going to face us in such a low number. You all have come here to end your useless lives instead!"

His loud laughter fueled the anger and rage that I am feeling inside my heart. I wasted no time and shifted into my human form to join there conversation.

"If you are the leader of this wolves, I want you to know that I am the son of the Great Alpha King and I challenge you into a one on one fight. If you win you can do everything you wish into this City, but if I won you surrender yourself under the Royal pack or my father will come to slaughter every last one of you!"

Beta Derek let out a harsh breath and harshly move his body to face me. The warriors behind me was silent. My challenge was bold and outrageous, but I will not vow down to the rogues in front of us.

"Huh! How presumptuous! You are indeed the son of Alpha King Jack. I think I am very lucky tonight for I will get to end the life of the Great Alpha King's son."

He smirked and stared at me with his dark wolf eyes. Beta Derek opened his mouth and whispered. "Don't do this your majesty! Let me handle this fight, you can't do this alone."

He shook his head and gritted his teeth but my mind has already decided. "Stay and watch closely Beta, if the Moon Goddess does not favor me tonight then you go back and tell my father that despite the cold treatment that he gives me after all these years. Even from the day I understood that he is my father, I have no regret. I will lay down my life to save a thousand rogues just to prove to him that I am worthy to be called his son!"

Beta Derek opened his mouth to answer but no words have come out of his mouth when he saw the strong determination that I wore in my face. There is no turning back, the fight has to start in a minutes when this enemy in front of me confirms his answer.

"I think this idea of yours is going to be the end of your father's rule. So I agree, but tell me. If you are really the son of the Great Alpha King Jack, why did he allow you to come here and fight instead of himself? Does he not love you enough to sacrifice you like this or are you being tested because you are weak?"

His words are just meant to insult me to tear off my strong determination but damn! Those words cut through the core. And to question if I am weak or strong could only meant something, he is a strong opponent!

"How dare you rogue! You have no right to speak to the our Prince like that!"

I could hear the loud beating of Beta Derek's heart when his foot move forward and began to shift facing the enemy and threatening to attack, but I hold his shoulder in order to stop him. "No Beta Derek! This is now my fight and him. Please step back and let me teach this old man a lesson."

Beta Derek halted and began the slower shifting of his body from his human form back into a wolf. I tasted the blood from my lips when I hold back the anger by biting into the insides of my mouth. My body began the process of snapping my bones and made the faster way of shifting into my wolf form. A loud growl came out from the wolves that surrounds us, that's when I realized that their leader is now facing us in his dark and furry beast-like wolf form.
