June

As I watch Mr. Grande talk to the department heads in his now deep, annoyingly smooth voice, I force myself to focus on the slides, not him.

And now I’m regretting fixing my earlier typos. I should’ve left them in to mess with him.

But my anger is still burning, replaying his words over and over in my head:

"Besides, what would an intern wear to a gala like that?"

I thought he was just a snobby boss, but it turns out, he’s a proud, arrogant, double-dipped snobby boss who looks down on anyo

Welp, glad a reader ruined it for everyone else. ... I guess I’ve wasted my time and I’m done with this one.

  • The Night Before I Knew Him   Tatooed Sleeve

♡Leila POV♡“Mia, we have thirty minutes!”The voice came from outside the makeup room, sharp and impatient.I looked at my reflection in the mirror and barely recognized the girl staring back. Short hair. Dark contacts. Makeup heavier than anything I used to wear. A different person.“Yes,” I muttered under my breath. “That’s what I’m called now.”I had stripped myself of my identity just to investigate my mother’s disappearance.Yes. You heard me.I still hadn’t found her. After the police searched my childhood home and came up empty, I stood there holding that old photograph like it was the only thing keeping me upright. My mother, young and smiling, standing next to two little boys I now knew were Cain and Tobias. That image changed everything. It meant my mother wasn’t just a random woman who wandered off. She had history with them. Real history.I thought about going to Lia’s parents. They had been kind to me. They might have helped. But the moment the idea formed, fear followed

Cain’s POVTwo weeks had passed.I had recovered enough to sit up, walk short distances, and force a few broken words out of my throat. The voice that came out was rough, cracked, and barely recognizable. Most people couldn’t make sense of it. Only Xavi seemed to understand me without much effort.A meeting had been called for the next day. I had no choice but to attend.I sat in the study, staring at the stack of documents spread across the desk. Reports. Casualty lists. Messages from different factions. Everything was chaos. The war Jose started hadn’t slowed down, and the syndicate was still waiting for my explanation.I tried not to think about Leila.Maybe she had been right to run. I had dragged her into this world. I had made the choice that night so she wouldn’t have to carry the weight of someone else’s death for the rest of her life. That burden should have been mine alone. Still… the disappointment sat heavy in my chest. Even when I was dying, she hadn’t stayed. Maybe— I

Cain's POVI heard her voice first.“Cain… Cain… Wake up, Cain.”Soft. Familiar. Cutting through the thick fog in my head like a blade of light. *Is she here? Is she calling me?*My heart slammed once, hard. Then the voice changed—rougher, louder, panicked.“Boss! Boss, WAKE UP—”Not Leila. Xavi.I tried to open my eyes. Nothing happened. It felt like someone had poured glue under my lids and let it dry. Everything was black and heavy. My body felt distant, like it belonged to someone else.*Did I survive?* *Am I still alive?* *Fuck… I came back.*“Stop yelling his name like that,” Freddie muttered nearby. His voice was low, controlled, the way he always sounded when things were serious.I tried again. Still nothing. My ears worked perfectly—I could hear every shift of fabric, every nervous breath—but my eyes refused to obey. The frustration burned hotter than whatever pain was lingering in my body. Then Pedro’s voice cut in, quieter, almost careful.“Will you tell him about Leila

♡Leila POV♡(Song recommedation: cardigan instrumental- Taylor swift)The words landed like a punch to the solar plexus. Air rushed out of me in a soundless gasp. Missing. My mom—sick, fragile, her mind slipping further into dementia every day—was missing.“What do you mean missing?” My voice cracked. “She’s—she’s supposed to be in her room. She doesn’t wander. She can’t even find the bathroom half the time without help.”Another careful pause. “She was last seen around eleven this morning during lunch. When staff went to check on her for her afternoon meds, her room was empty. Her walker is still by the bed, but her shoes are gone. We’ve searched the facility grounds and alerted local authorities. We’re calling all immediate family.”My knees buckled. I grabbed the back of the nearest bench to keep from hitting the ground. The metal burned hot under my palm.“She’s sick,” I whispered, more to myself than to the woman on the phone. “She doesn’t know where she is half the time. She thi

  • The Night Before I Knew Him   She's missing

♡ Leila ♡I twisted my head toward the front door the second it burst open, my heart slamming into my ribs so hard I thought it might crack them. For one frozen second, I was sure it was them—the same faceless men who’d dragged me out of New York in the dead of night, and dumped me back in Vegas without a single explanation. My mind raced ahead of reality: What if they’d come back? What if they’d changed their minds and decided I knew too much? What if they saw Kayla standing there, wide-eyed and innocent, and decided she was collateral?Oh God. Not her. Please, not her.“Leila! My God, where have you been?”June’s voice—sharp, familiar, laced with worry—cut through the panic like a knife. Relief hit me so fast it almost hurt. I wasn’t supposed to feel relieved to see her. June was the absolute last person I wanted in this house right now, the last person I wanted to face with the truth still rotting inside me. But compared to the alternative… I’d take June any day.I let out a shaky

  • The Night Before I Knew Him   It's thief!

♡Leila♡A sudden shout jolted me out of the heavy darkness. My eyes fluttered open halfway.Everything was blurry.Shapes moved around me, unfamiliar and hazy.“It’s a thief! It’s a thief!”The voice rang through the room.Too familiar. My eyes flew open.I jerked upright from the couch.“Kayla?” I whispered. My gaze darted around the room.My heart skipped.I was… home.Back in Las Vegas.Back in my house. For a moment, I couldn’t breathe.I thought I was going to die.I thought those men who captured me were taking me somewhere to kill me.So why—Why on God’s earth was I back here? Was this a dream?“Leila?” Kayla said slowly. The broom in her hand slipped and clattered loudly to the floor. Her eyes widened.“Leila!”Her voice rose sharply, and I shut my eyes for a moment, trying to steady my mind. Before I could say anything, she rushed forward and pulled me into a tight embrace.“Is it a dream?” she said breathlessly against my shoulder. “You came back. You’re so good at surprise
