Chapter 2

Author: Washing Wheat
"What are those?" I shook my head wildly. "I won't take them. Are you trying to kill my child?"

"Medication to delay labor. It will reduce the contractions."

"No. It will suffocate the baby!"

Dr. Lane said nothing.

"Dr. Lane, your wife is due soon too, isn't she? If she were lying here right now, would you feed her this?"

Then I turned to Parker through the pain.

"If anything happens to me or the baby, you are the main culprit. Graham will never let you go."

Dr. Lane and Parker exchanged a look. They were just about to agree to send me to the hospital when Parker's phone rang.

It was Graham.

Parker answered respectfully, and all hesitation disappeared from his face.

"Madam, you heard him," he said helplessly. "Mr. Whitmore said we must wait for him. It is not that I won't help you. I truly cannot."

He gave Mrs. Ward a look.

Two maids immediately pressed down on my shoulders. One forced my mouth open while Mrs. Ward shoved the pills in. I tried to vomit them out, but they slid down my throat.

Tears slipped silently down my face. I stared at the ceiling and suddenly laughed until my tears flowed even harder.

"Fine. Remember this day. If my child dies, I will come back as a ghost and drag every one of you to hell."

"Madam is emotionally unstable," Parker said with a frown. "Give her a sedative so she doesn't hurt herself or the baby. Mrs. Ward, watch her."

The long needle pierced my arm.

I stopped struggling.

So this was what I was worth to Graham. His first love mattered more than his own child.

To protect her baby, he was willing to leave mine on the edge of death.

The more despair I felt, the more I regretted marrying him even when everyone had warned me not to.

I had believed that if I loved him enough, if I was good enough, he would eventually see me.

There were moments when I thought he loved me.

Now I understood.

When someone does not love you, they simply do not love you.

Not even carrying his child could earn half a measure of tenderness.

I stroked the curve of my belly. Blood and amniotic fluid had already soaked the bed.

I slowly closed my eyes as fresh tears wet my face.

"Graham Whitmore, if anything happens to this baby, I will never let you go."

Perhaps the medication worked. The contractions dulled slightly.

But the bleeding did not stop. I lay on the bed, weak and cold, while blood continued to flow beneath me.

Through the haze, I suddenly heard Mrs. Ward say Graham's name.

Hope flared in my chest.

Had he finally softened? Was he finally sending me to the hospital?

I used the last of my strength to shout toward Mrs. Ward's phone.

"Graham, tell them to take me to the hospital. The baby really won't make it!"

Mrs. Ward had put the call on speaker.

But the voice that came through was not Graham's.

It was Natalie Vale's, soft and smug.

"Stella, you have to hold on. Graham is still here with me. He can't come to you right now."

She paused, then instructed Mrs. Ward in that same delicate voice.

"Mrs. Ward, make sure you take good care of her. Make her listen to Graham."

"Natalie, put Graham on the phone…"

Before I could finish, someone clamped a hand over my mouth. I could only make muffled sounds.

His smile froze. His mouth opened, but no sound came out.Tears ran down his pale face and mixed with the blood from his wound.I clutched his sleeve, my voice hoarse."Is he… gone?"Tell me. Is he gone?"His body trembled. Slowly, he nodded. Pain twisted his face."It's my fault, Stella. When you recover, we can have another child, all right? I swear I'll obey you in everything from now on.""No!"The C-section wound felt as if it were tearing open. The pain below was sharp enough to pierce bone. I yanked the needle from the back of my hand and tore the monitors from my chest, staring at him with bloodshot eyes."It was you. You killed my child. He was your child too. He was innocent. Get out. I never want to see you again."Before I finished speaking, Graham suddenly clutched his chest and vomited blood. Blood surged from his wound and soaked through the gauze."Mr. Whitmore, you need surgery immediately. Any later and you'll die," the doctor shouted, trying to lift him.

Natalie collapsed to the floor and shook her head frantically."No. No. How do you know that?""There is nothing I cannot find out," Graham said coldly. "I was just too stupid before. I always believed you."He paused, his gaze turning ruthless."But now, you are nothing to me. I will make you repay Stella's suffering a thousand times over.""No!" Natalie crawled over and clung to his pant leg, sobbing. "I'll never dare again. Please, for the sake of the fact that I saved you once, spare me.""Saved me?" Graham's fury erupted. He kicked her hand away. "I already found out. Stella was the one who saved me back then."He turned and roared at the bodyguards."Take her back. Hang her upside down for eight hours. Bind her stomach with coarse rope. Shock her for two hours. Sew her shut until the fetus dies."No anesthesia. No hospital. Then break both her legs and throw her into the river. Let her survive or die on her own."Natalie screamed and lunged at him, but the bodyguards sl

Graham scrambled up, seized the consent form, and signed with a trembling hand while crying."Use my blood. Hurry. You must save her and the baby!"In the VIP intensive care room, I lay motionless with bandages around my lower body. Tubes ran in and out of me, and medicine dripped slowly through the IV line. The room was so quiet only the monitors could be heard.Graham knelt beside the bed, clutching my hand, his head buried by the mattress while his shoulders trembled. After a while, he abruptly stood and spoke to the bodyguards beside him in an icy voice."Bring everyone involved that day to me."He wanted the truth. He wanted to give me an answer. He wanted everyone who had hurt me to pay. After the questioning, every thread pointed to one person: Natalie Vale. The woman who claimed she had endured long-term abuse, lost both parents, and had no one.The gentle, pitiful woman he had once sworn to protect for life.Graham could not believe she had done something so cruel

He had to see Stella lying safely in bed with his own eyes.Even if she scolded him or hit him, that was fine.As long as she was alive.Suddenly, his mind flashed back to the day she married him.She had smiled at him and said, "Graham, I don't regret marrying you. I know you will protect me and love me. You are a man who takes responsibility."Now the memory made his heart clench with pain. The car had not fully stopped before he shoved the door open and rushed into the villa."Stella…"He called several times, but no one answered. Mrs. Ward ran out of the bedroom in a panic. He grabbed her by the collar, his voice hoarse with suppressed fury."Where is my wife?"Mrs. Ward trembled violently."Madam… Madam went to the hospital.""What happened to her? Speak!"Graham could no longer hold back. He kicked Mrs. Ward to the ground and rushed into the bedroom. The room was empty.Only the glaring red across the bed remained, along with a long trail of blood and dampness acr

"But Stella has such a fierce temper. I'm afraid she might…"Before she finished, Graham suddenly got a bad feeling. His chest prickled as if something had stung him.He rubbed his brow, but his voice remained firm."She's only jealous. Even if it hurts, she can endure it. Her due date hasn't arrived yet. It's good to temper her temper a little."The Whitmore family needs a wife who understands propriety. Once she thinks it through, she'll understand me."Stella Hayes was a pampered heiress with a good family and every advantage. But Natalie had once risked her life to save him. Now she was miserable and alone. How could he bear to let her suffer again? After Stella gave birth, he would compensate her properly. As if remembering something, he suddenly withdrew his hand and soothed Natalie gently."Natalie, rest well. Claire Whitmore's stern voice rang from the doorway. The air froze. The maids released me in panic and lowered their heads.Mrs. Ward stood stiffly in place, her face ashen, both hands smeared with blood.Graham's parents had died when he was young. He and his older sister, Claire, had depended on each other. Half of everything Graham had today was because of her.In the Whitmore family, her words carried more weight than Graham's.Claire's gaze swept across the purple bruises on my abdomen, the blood-soaked bed, and the unfinished stitching below. She saw the child's hair faintly visible through the blood and staggered, grabbing the doorframe."Who gave you the nerve?" Her voice trembled. "How can your hearts be so poisonous?""It… it was Mr. Whitmore. He said we had to wait until he returned…"Before Mrs. Ward finished speaking, Claire slapped her twice. Blood appeared at the corner of Mrs. Ward's mouth."That woman again!" Claire shook with rage. "I have no brother this col
