It doesn't take long to get to the storage unit, and since everything is so organized in here, only takes me a minute to grab the tote I need. My stomach growls as I drive away from the building, and I think of that little taco truck Jack absolutely despises. He never could understand what good food really was. Only worried about the price. If it wasn't expensive enough, it wasn't good enough. I was exactly the opposite. I loved their greasy tacos and cheap prices. Plus they had these apple emp

Thomas comes back to get the first set of girls to go on stage. They don't have much chemistry between the two of them, and even though I can't see what routine they are doing on the stage, I can hear the silence in the crowd. Not good. We only get three minutes, so it isn't long before they are walking back through the door, the blonde girl's cheeks are bright red and the short black pixie cut haired girl looks like she's gonna bust out into tears. "I told you we should have practiced more!" the blonde girl screeches at the other. "We didn't even find out about this until last night. How were we gonna practice more?" Their voices drift away as they walk deeper into the changing room. Hopefully to change out of those horrible outfits. They look like slutty nuns and this is not the crowd for that. Thomas comes in right behind the girls, getting the next two for their set. It's one of the snobby girls and her little sidekick. Their dressed like cowgirls, big ass hats bumping into eac

We decide on her wearing the wings and me wearing the corset this time. Last time I wore the wings, and since I have to move around a little more than she does, they got in the way. We both move to the side of the room with stations for us to plug in and get our faces and hair together. It seems like only minutes go by before the room starts to fill with other women. Most don't say much to each other, just move around each other quietly like everyone is walking on eggshells. It's nothing like the fun place it used to be when I was working here. The only thing that seems the same is the way the blunt goes around the room. It's the quiet that bothers me the most though. No girls are asking each other for help, no one is adjusting another girl's outfit. It's just depressing. Dancing is supposed to be fun.Starlight came in a little late, so she's damn near frantic as she tries to pull her new outfit from her duffel. She tries to make small chat with a few of the other girls. none of whi

"Ok, now that I've spilled my guts over tacos, just like old times, lets start getting our outfits figured out like old times." We pick up our trash, throwing it in the trash can on the way to the back. Izzy grabs the tote from next to the room door, as I walk through the door. I'm surprised there isn't anyone here; back when I worked here, whenever we had a competition the tiny room was packed with naked girls trying to get ready for the big show."It's weird isn't it?" Izzy asks, sensing my hesitation."Where is everyone? Why aren't they getting ready?" I ask."It isn't the same Sky. The girls mostly get ready at home, then come in. They don't change their routines or their outfits. I'm honestly surprised we get as much business as we do. Starlight is the only one that changes her routine up a little, not much though, and she changes her outfits. She didn't use to, but after she watched enough of your videos, she started changing it up more. The other girls make fun of her for it, t

Plus they had these apple empanadas that were as close to heaven as I was going to get. Once I get to the street I turn right instead of staying straight. It's been so long since I've had regular food and now my brain can't stop seeing tacos. I park on the side of the road, a few feet away from the truck and grab a few bills from my purse. I make sure I have enough to grab Izzy a couple tacos too; they aren't her favorite, but it's high on her list. She prefers pasta, which in all honestly comes in at second for me. Ten m

  • The Night the Mask Falls   Chapter 13

I'm at work when the message from Izzy comes through. Call me when you can. I don't repsond, instead focus on finishing the last sketch I need to finish for the project. I threw myself into it when I got here today, trying my hardest to keep my mind occupied. I haven't heard from Jack at all today, probably won't until later tonight when it will be either all apologies or all anger. I almost prefer the apologies; at least then I don't question whether or not he feels bad for lying to me. At least not as much anyways. I take care of my sketch, adding it into the portfolio with the others and set my little bag of sketching supplies in the drawer. I check my phone only to find nothing new and call Izzy before I go hand these in. She answers on the first ring, making my curiousity spike more than it already was."Sky, please tell me you don't have any plans tonight." Izzy says instead of hello."No babe, nothing going on in my swamped social calendar. Do you need something?" "Not nece

The meeting went better than I could have imagined, I think I even impressed my boss a little. Which is a damn good thing since he just gave me a pay raise. The client loved my work and walked out of the conference room as my first client. I was on my way home when I got a text from Jack. I ignore it and drive the restst of the way home in peace. I stop by the little diner two blocks from my house to order my dinner and by the time I pull in to my driveway I'm exhausted. I've been going non stop for a week straight and my nerves are absolutely shot. At some point I need to process this whole Jack thing, but tonight is not the night for that. I set everything down on the counter in my boring ass kitchen and head to the bathroom to start a bath. I need to decompress and relax so I can get a decent night's sleep. The tub runs while I pour my favorite amber bubble bath in and light a few candles. I head back to the kitchen to grab my food and my phone, figuring I'll try to figure someth
