Helen's POV

I stood by the window of the Alpha’s chamber, watching the wind ripple through the trees, my reflection faint in the glass. It wasn’t vanity that kept me there, it was certainty.

Tonight was the beginning of something new. Something I had waited for, fought for. And finally, everything was falling into place.

Clarissa was gone. Out of the way.

And Drey? He was almost mine again. The mark would seal it. And once I had that, no illusion would be needed. No more whispers in dreams, no more silent doubts blooming inside him. He would belong to me in every sense that mattered—mind, body, and rank.

I turned as the door creaked open. My hand instinctively smoothed the fabric of my dress, deep burgundy and regal against my skin. Drey stepped inside. He looked tired. Haunted. The weight of leadership had finally begun to buckle his shoulders. He hadn’t shaved in days. Shadows clung to his cheekbones. He hadn’t even noticed I’d worn his favorite color.
