"Strange, other than the other voice in my head, I don't feel any different," she says, with a huge grin on her face, and it takes me a minute to get what she means.
"So you got your wolf?" I ask, and she nods in response. "OH MY GODDESS, I'm so happy for you. What's her name? Is she sweet? Does she like you? Oh, I guess that was a stupid question. Of course, she likes you, sorry!"
"Hahaha, I love you, Rainie bug. Her name is Shina. She's very nice. And she said she likes you and me both. oh, and she also said she needs more of your cooking." She says with the brightest smile on her face.
"She even likes me and my cooking?" I ask, shocked that she even noticed my existence.
"Of course, sis, your cooking is amazing, and you're the sweetest person I know. What's not to like?" she says, making me smile.
"I love you, Jess," I say as I pull her into a hug. "And Shina too!"
Today is a bittersweet day. Not only is it my best friends' birthday, but she also got her wolf, so she will be able to scent out her mate if he's close enough, she can shift into her wolf, and she will be able to move into her own room in the pack house in a few days. But she'll officially not be an orphan anymore. Don't get me wrong, I'm so happy for her, and if anyone deserves to be happy and find her place in the world, it's her. But that leaves me alone again. But today isn't about me. It's about her. So I shake my lonely and depressing thoughts from my mind and start my morning routine before heading down to the kitchen to start breakfast. Since it's Saturday and there's no school. That means the kids don't have to be up early, which also means I don't have to rush for everything.
After the food is finished cooking, beds are made, and dirty clothes have been put in the wash, I went to the room that in a few days, I'll no longer share with my best friend. I'll be losing my best friend. Even when I move into the pack house as the pack slave, I won't be permitted to speak to her. Slaves aren't allowed to be seen or heard. Im so stuck in my thoughts that I don't even hear Jess come in and walk up behind me.
"Let's run away.." she says
"WHAT? You've lost your mind! They are full-grown wolves. They're faster than us, not to mention they could easily scent us out." I protest. "They would kill us both, not just me. I won't allow you to put yourself in danger for me. Not after you finally got your wolf and have your whole life ahead of you."
"Actually, I have a masking spray for me, and you have no scent at all, strangely. And Shina is the one who suggested it. She says the fact that you have no scent means you are important, and we need to get you out of this pack!" She states as she starts packing a big black duffle bag with our clothes.
"Im definitely not important. My own parents dumped me here because I wasn't even important to them. I'm a nobody." I say, slowly getting more depressed about my life before Jess smacks me in the back of my head.
"Don't you dare say that!! If you stay here, you'll die, you are my best friend, and I need you to stay alive and with me. You're my only family." she says, shocking me. What did she mean by that?
"What do you mean by 'if I stay, I'll die'?" I ask as I meet her gaze.
"I'm not supposed to tell you, but Alpha Max has decided on your seventeenth birthday you are to be executed. He refuses to have a witch as a pack slave in the packhouse." She says, her voice barely above a whisper and eyes on the verge of overflowing with tears. "He's scared you turn on the pack once you get your powers."
"But I wouldn't... Jess, you have to believe me." I say, panic laced in my voice. "I wouldn't... I couldn't."
"I know that Rainie bug..." She says as she wraps me up in a tight embrace. "But the Alpha has made his decision. That's why I need to get you out of here now!"
"Okay, I'll leave, but I can't let you leave your pack. This pack is your home. I'll leave tonight, but I'm going alone. I won't take anything else from you." I say, prepared to stand my ground.
"Sorry, but my sister isn't leaving alone. And if you try, Shina and I have already decided we will follow you!" Jess said defiantly, and I get the feeling she wasn't joking around. "Plus, this isn't my home anymore. Family is what makes a home. Plus, all those beatings and lashes Ms.Leana has given you over the years, the Alpha knew about them. Why do you think she got those bonuses? He was paying her to break you..."
"Okay," I say, absolutely defeated by all the information she just threw at me. "Where do we go? What do we do?"
"We will wait till 2 am when they are changing out patrols. Dress in all black and make sure you cover your hair. That bright red hair of yours will give us away instantly. When we get to the border of the pack's territory, I'll denounce the pack, and we'll run like hell south." She says, looking confident.
"Okay, let's get dinner and everything ready so the kids will at least be taken care of till Ms.Leana realizes we're gone," I say, putting the last of what I own into the duffle bag Jess hands me.
"Sounds like a plan!" She said, walking out of the room.
We've spent the rest of the morning with the kids playing, making sure they had everything they needed, showing them where the first aid kit is and anything else they may need once we leave. "Rain... Jessica." Called Joshy, a 14-year-old orphaned boy whose parents died along with Jessicas' parents in the rouge attack on the pack. As we walked down the hall to the stairs, I was hit with the most amazing scent of cider and roses. If only I could bottle the scent and keep it forever. But as we got to the bottom step, my thoughts were pulled from finding the source of the scent to the chaos that was in front of us. The Alpha was standing in the living room with an adorable little curly brown-haired girl by his side, who smelled like a rouge, Ms.Leana, and two of the pack guards I didn't recognize. Apparently, they killed the little girls' father at the border after he crossed over into the packs' territory, and since there are laws about executing underage rogue children, they had
As I'm getting ready to cook dinner for the kids for the last time, I decided to cook their favorite meal, Pork tacos, mac and cheese, and red velvet cupcakes for dessert. The kids demolish every bit of the food I've cooked. Then Jess takes the kids upstairs and starts getting them ready for bed. I decide to get to know the little girl we will be taking with us. She's a tiny little thing with long curly brown hair and emerald green eyes, just like mine. I sit her on the edge of Jessicas' bed and start asking questions like her name, her age, her favorite color, and anything I can think of that she may be able to tell me. But I get nothing, not even the smallest of noises. "She hasn't spoken a word since she arrived," Jess says, walking into the room. "Either she's too scared to talk, or she can't." "Will you have enough masking spray for the both of you?" I ask, curious if we'll have to get more before we leave. "Yes, I have plenty to make it at least a week for the both of u
After running for about two more hours, Shina stopped to listen for guards that might have been alerted to us crossing the border and coming after us. When she's sure nothing is coming our way, she motions for me to remove a still-sleeping Odett from her back before shifting back to her human form and putting her clothes back on. She takes our bags, and we continue walking for another mile or two before we come to a creek with a beautiful little waterfall. "My father used to bring me here when he was still alive, but I haven't been back since the attack." She says, with pain and longing in her eyes as she relieves those memories. "There's a small cave behind that waterfall we can sleep in for a few hours. No one knows about it but my father and I, so we should be safe." Once we're in the cave, Jess lays down the blanket, and I place Odett on it, and we lay down on either side of her to make sure she gets our body heat and is safe. Then we dose off. I wake up to a strange voi
"I think it's time for us to start walking again, we only have a few more hours till nightfall, and we need to find shelter before it gets dark," I say, and Jess nods in agreement."So, where exactly are we going?" Jess asked as we watch Odett running around playing, making both of us smile."I think we need to head toward New Orleans," Dosha said. "There are many witches there. Maybe one of them could help you with your magic.""Dosha thinks we should go to New Orleans," I answer."Who is Dosha? And why New Orleans?" She asks, looking at me questionably."Dosha is my wolf, and she thinks we'll be able to find a witch in New Orleans that can help me with my magic," I say, turning my head to meet her gaze, not sure if she would believe me. "Oh, and the rings in our eyes are to show that Odette and I are hybrids. Though I'm not sure why they appear and disappear.""Okay, New Orleans it is, then. If I can remember correctly, it should be directly south of us, it will take a few days of
Orians P.O.V. As we follow the trail to the rogue, my mind is preoccupied with thoughts of my newly found mate. The image of her short blond hair and beautiful blue eyes on the verge of tears looking up at me popped into my mind making my chest tighten. "We need to hurry this up quickly and get back to our mate!" My wolf De'von commands. "You didn't even ask her what her name was! Some mate you are." "Yes, master," I reply in a snarky tone. "I just thought it would make her happy if we saved her sister first." "Okay, point taken." He huffs out, and I roll my eyes. At that moment, I smell the blood of rogues, not just one, but multiple. It smells like at least five, if not more. One female wolf wouldn't be able to take on all of them. The panic starts to settle in the pit of my stomach. "Beta!" I heard the scout I sent ahead call out from the top of a nearby hill, and as soon as I met his gaze, I knew something was wrong. The smell of more rogues and more blood
King Zions P.O.V. As I wake up, I link one of the maids for something to eat. After being told it'll be up soon, I decided to get up to shower and get some work done before my beta started complaining about my lack of efficiency regarding boring paperwork. I look at my watch I laid on my nightstand, and I'm shocked to realize it's afternoon. I can't believe Orian let me sleep so long, but I did have a late night. I make my way to my bathroom and take a long hot shower that loosens my tight muscles. After I'm done with my shower, I head to my closet to get dressed with my towel wrapped around my waist. I hear the door open and can hear my mistress Ashleys' wolf purr at the sight of my nearly naked body. I turn to tell her I don't have time to deal with her, only to find her walking up to me while sliding her dress off so that she is naked as well. Before I know it, she's on her knees before me, preparing to please me with her body. She is a very ca
"Sir, the guard outside the prisoner's cell just linked me, letting us know she's awake," Orian says, looking at me to get my reaction. "You handle the interrogation. I'll watch from here." I respond while pointing out the security video I've already pulled up on my computer screen. He shakes his head but bows his head in submission and starts to walk out of my office. As he's walking out, Ashley walks in, shoving past him. He rolls his eyes at her and closes the door. She walks around my desk, lowers herself to her knees between my legs, then tries to unzip my pants. I stop her and tell her she needs to leave my office. "I just want to please you, my King." She says, reaching for my zipper again, still on her knees between my legs. "I said no!" I said, raising my voice to her for the first time. "So it's true, you've found your mate?" She says. "Drop it, Ashley!" I say, not wanting to confirm anything. "Is she better than me?" She asked, looking almost hurt. "I sai
Orians P.O.V. After leaving the ladies to catch up in Rain's room, I walk across the hall to Zions Suite. As I get to the door, I knock and wait for him to call for me to come in before entering and making my way to his suite office to the right of the entrance, hearing giggling and then the sound of a laptop closing. When I get to his office, I sit in the chair across the desk from him with a knowing smile. "What?" Zion says after a moment. "When will you be talking to her yourself instead of getting me to do it or simply watching the security footage? I ask. "What makes you think I've been watching?" He asks. "I heard the same giggling from Rains' room also coming from your office when I walked to your door," I said with amusement laced in my voice. "Is she really your mate?" "I really can't get anything past you, can I?" He laughs. "And yes, it would seem so. Either that or she has put a love bond spell on me. I've been racking my brain, but that's
