Skylar

“Mommy, I wanted some cookies, but Charlie ate it all!”

“But you don’t even like cookies!”

“That doesn't mean you should finish it all! I still want them!”

I stood quietly, watching the two kids argue under the shade of a tall tree.

The two children stood with scrunched-up faces and pouting lips, their arms crossed as they argued. One was a girl with pigtails, the other a chubby-cheeked boy with cookie crumbs still stuck on his shirt.

Their mother, who was sitting beside them, was clearly used to their squabbles. She gave a tired smile and shook her head as she handed them a juice box each, trying to calm them down.

I watched them from a short distance, my arms wrapped around myself even though the breeze was warm.

Around me, the park was alive. Families everywhere. Kids running with kites. Parents calling their names. A dog barked somewhere near the swings. A group of friends played frisbee by the open field. Parents snapping photos. Everyone just looked… happy.

SkylarAmber’s fingers were warm as they gently wrapped around mine. The touch was soft—reassuring—but I felt a tension in the air even before she spoke.“Skylar…” she said gently, her eyes searching mine. “You might not like what I’m about to say, but I need to say it anyway.”I nodded, already feeling a lump forming in my throat. She took a breath and continued. “If you truly love your husband, and you don’t want to be separated from him… then you’ll have to endure this and make your marriage work.”Endure. The word echoed in my mind like a stone tossed into a well. My chest ached just hearing it. But Amber didn’t flinch.“You’ll have to convince yourself that this was all a misunderstanding,” she went on in a calm but serious voice. “That maybe… maybe Cole was just tempted. Maybe he was a man who fell into temptation—a temporary novelty, a weak moment.”I blinked rapidly, trying to stop the tears. She continued."You'll have to fight for your marriage. Fight for him. Do everything

Skylar I walked out of the apartment building slowly, feeling like all the strength in my body had left me. My eyes were heavy, my chest tight. I didn’t care if anyone saw the sadness or tears on my face. I couldn’t even pretend to be okay anymore. When I reached my car, I didn’t start the engine. I just sat there. My hands rested on the steering wheel, but my mind was somewhere else—lost, broken, confused. The tears continued to fall silently, one after the other, rolling down my cheeks. I wiped them away with the back of my hand, but they kept coming.I didn’t want to go home. Every corner of that place reminded me of Cole. His laughter in the kitchen, his shoes by the door, the scent of his cologne on the couch pillows. It would only make things worse. My thoughts shifted to my mother’s house. Maybe I could go there. But I quickly shook that thought off. She would ask too many questions. She’d want to know what was wrong. She would worry. And right now, I couldn’t handle her conce

I stood by the coffee machine, about to prepare a cup of freshly brewed coffee for myself. It had been another long day, and all I wanted was something warm to help me push through the remaining hours. My mind was numb with deadlines and lingering thoughts about Cole. I stood there, until I heard two female voices chatting near the counter."Imagine being married for six years with no kids," one of them began, her tone filled with disbelief. "My friend loved her husband so much. He told her he didn't want children because he loved her too much to share her with anyone else. Can you imagine that?"I blinked, my fingers tightening around the mug handle."And she actually believed him," the woman continued. "Even when her family warned her about her decision, she still chose him. Blindly, stupidly.""So what happened?" the second voice asked, a little more curious."Well… he got into a car crash. She rushed to the hospital to see him, only to meet another woman there—who claimed to be h

ColeThe door slammed shut behind me as I rushed into the apartment. I saw Dr. Francis just stepping out of Amelia’s room. His face was tight, and unreadable."Doctor!" I called out. "What’s going on? Is she okay?"He sighed deeply and looked at me. "Mr. Cole. Let’s talk in the sitting room."My gaze glanced toward Amelia’s door, but I followed Dr. Francis without another word.Dr. Francis sat on the couch with a groan and gestured for me to sit across from him. “Mr. Cole… I need to be honest with you,” he began. “Ms. Amelia’s condition… it’s more complicated than I thought.”I frowned. “What do you mean?”He paused for a moment, choosing his words carefully. “I’ve been treating Ms. Amelia for a while now. And I believe her traumatic experiences have left her with a severe psychological condition."I leaned forward. "What kind of condition are we talking about?""It resembles Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. It’s more complicated than standard PTSD because it stems from prolon

SkylarI opened my eyes slowly. My body still felt tired. My mind was full of blurry dreams and things I couldn’t quite remember. As I blinked away the sleep, everything started to become clearer. And then I saw Cole.He was lying right next to me, so close I could feel the soft warmth of his breath. But he wasn’t asleep. His eyes were open, quietly watching me.Once, being this close to him would have made me blush and feel warm. I would have smiled and maybe even shied away. But that warm feeling never came. Not today… not after last night.“Good morning,” I said in a low voice.Cole blinked and frowned a little. Then he sighed deeply. He reached out and gently moved a strand of hair from my face. “What’s wrong?” he asked.I shook my head, pulling away slightly. “Nothing.”I was about to turn and face the other side of the bed, hoping he’d let it go and just leave me alone. But he didn’t. He gently held my cheek before I could fully turn away from him, guiding me back to face him.O
