I arrived at the RU building. It was absolutely amazing. I had to go through the front gate to get to the parking lot. I told the security guard my name and why I was here. He must have had to call someone to verify, then he let me through. The building was immaculate. And I say “building” lightly too since it was more like a high-tech campus. I’ve drove past this place many times, but this time it was surreal. I could actually work at this place.I parked my car in the lot and made my way to the front entrance. It reminded me of one of those grand hotels we used to stay at when I was young. My mom always was on business and would be able to bring my brother and I with her. Thinking of her sense of pain through my brain. I quickly moved on from the thought of her in order to make sure I was in my right mind for the interview.Anita was waiting for me as I walked though the turning doors. She was a tall blonde, maybe in her mid 40s. She had a very welcoming smile on her face which was
Anita walked past me. “Meet me in the lobby at 8 tomorrow.” She stated loudly as she walked down the hall to the elevator. Will still stood in the opposite doorway waiting for me to say something. To say I was stunned was an understatement. He works here? Why didn’t he say that earlier? I had questions for him.. but honestly I didn’t know where to start. There were no words leaving my mouth. “I told you I knew some people over here.” He said with a grin. My heart instantly sank. Did he get me the job? Is he the reason it was barely an interview? He must have noticed the change in my face. He walked over to me and proceeded to say “I only put a recommendation on your file. They were super impressed with your resume. And honestly, so was I.”He read my resume? Why and how? I was left with more questions than before.Seeing my confusion, Will told me he’d answer all my questions. He just wanted to give me the tour first. I reluctantly agreed. My confusion did not take away from the a
I followed Will to a restaurant of his choosing. I was actually relieved when it was just a pizza joint. Nothing fancy or over the top. It was more of a mom and pop shop. I met him at the door, which he held open for me to go in first. I looked around. It must be seat yourself. So I picked a booth in the corner.“So you’re a booth person over a table person. I’ll remember that.” Will chipped in before sitting down across the table from me. Before I could get my first question in, a waitress came over to the table. “Will, is that you? I was expecting you and your dad tonight. Will he be joining?” “No Lucy. He’s working late tonight.” She looked over at me and gave a welcoming smile. “My name is Lucy and Will here and his father are two of my long standing customers. I usually see them every other week.” I looked at Will as he sheepishly smiled. “What can I get you to drink honey?” “I’ll just have water please and thank you.” She looks at Will. “Cola?” Will nods. “I’ll be right
I woke up extra early this morning in hope to get myself ready for my first day at RU. I made sure I put my necessary documents in my bag in order to not forget them. I also shoved a pair of my flats in my bag just in case I couldn’t handle my heels all day. I wasn’t sure how much walking around I would be doing. When I finally got to the gate and they verified me, I felt a whole new level of nervous. And with that came nausea. The last thing I wanted to do today was be the new girl hurling her guts out in the bathroom. I calmed myself down and walked through the spinning door again. Reality set in and I realized, this is my job. I work here. I was truly excited. I was a little early, so Anita wasn’t in the lobby yet. I looked around taking note of bathrooms and the signs in the building. It would take some time for me to figure out where everything was located. About 5 minutes pass before Anita walks in.“Hello Rebecca! Come with me.” As I followed her up the stairs I mentioned to he
It was finally Saturday morning. I was glad I didn’t have to get up straight out of bed. I had a few minutes to myself to think. At that second though, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to think about. Whether it was my pregnancy, how I started to develop some sort of feeling for Will (whom I’ve been spending a ton of time with this week), the joint fix that we desperately needed, or what I wanted to eat today. My hunger won out my other thoughts and I crawled out of bed. I mixed up some pancake batter and pulled out some bacon from the fridge. I’ve been craving salt all week so this was definitely my secret pleasure. Just as I was about to start frying the bacon I had a knock on my door. I walked over and peeped through the hole. It was Tim! I’ve been so busy this week at my new job… I forgot to tell him I had a new job! He was going to be upset AND jealous of me. Being an engineer, he was hoping to end up at RU. I opened the door… and to my surprise, Will was standing behind him. “You’v
I had an OB appointment this morning so I switched my work times up today. Tim was in the waiting room with me. It’s been over a month since I found out I was pregnant and today I was supposed to have my first ultrasound. I was super excited but nervous too. Tim must have seen my nerves kick in, so he put his arm around my shoulder and pulled me in. “I’m sure everything will be fine. No need to worry sis.” His words comforted me. Finally it was my turn and they called me back. Tim asked if I wanted him to go back with me, and the technologist whispered in my ear that I would have to remove my pants in the room. With that knowledge I quickly replied “No, I’ll be fine.” Back to my brother and also a quick thank you in a hushed tone to the technologist. She must have heard him call me his sis earlier. She set me up for the test and I got to watch the little screen. She told me what she was looking at because let’s be honest, I had no idea what the blobs were. She wasn’t able to tell
I could hear Will’s chair scrape against the floor as I ran out of the room. I didn’t think I’d make it running in my heels so I kicked them off on my way to the bathroom so hopefully I could make it there a little faster. Since it was so late, I was the only one in the women’s room. Thank God since I was hurling everything I just ate up. Which was DEFINITELY not pleasant. “Becca?” I heard Will say from outside the bathroom door. “Can I come in?” He was pretty much asking if anyone was in there. When he didn’t get a reply, he opened the door and let himself in. I was on my knees leaning on the toilet. “Oh Becca.” He sounded so sorry that this was happening to me. He crouched down and held my hair for me. I’m not sure if I was more mortified or comforted by his act of kindness. I finally thought I was fine. So I stood up and flushed the toilet. I couldn’t look Will in the eyes. I just went over to the sink and washed my face off. “If you stay here a minute, there’s a box in the su
Another month had passed and I was about to finish my first trimester of pregnancy. Part of me was super relieved and the other part was scared to death. I had to tell Jared… soon. Not to mention I was starting to see something of a bump on myself… against all my efforts. I was soon going to need a new wardrobe with slightly baggier clothes if I was going to keep my secret longer at work too.Work has been great. I been able to keep up and ahead of the previous office personnel working with this team. Not to mention that the (below the knee) leg prosthetic was finally built it didn’t take them long at all after Will and I worked on the ankle. They had actually started working on the above knee prosthetic too! It was absolutely amazing. Now they had to bring in the specialist to help out with the kind of sensors they wanted. He helped with Will’s arm years back so I’m guessing they trust that he knows what he’s doing. I know Will had mentioned different sensors for actually feeling tou
