A Sweet Distraction

Sunlight streamed through Athena’s bedroom window, gently warming her skin. But the moment she stirred, her eyes snapped open in horror.

“Oh, no. No, no, no!”

She scrambled for her phone, panic setting in as she saw the time. She was late.

In her rush, she nearly knocked over the device still propped up beside her bed. That’s when she noticed it—the ongoing video call.

Arthur.

She grabbed her phone, blinking in disbelief. He was still on the call. He had stayed the entire night.

And there he was—calm as ever, sitting at a dining table, dressed in a crisp white shirt, casually eating breakfast.

Athena bit her lip, watching him through the screen. He looked effortlessly handsome, sleeves rolled up slightly, his expression relaxed. He seemed completely unbothered as if he hadn’t spent the entire night watching over her.

"Morning, sleeping beauty!" Arthur finally glanced at his screen and smirked.

"I overslept!" Athena groaned, running a hand through her messy hair.

"I can see that." Arth

"Yours?"Athena's breath hitched upon hearing it. Her heart pounded even faster, especially when the man who had already surprised her closed the distance between them until her eyes could see nothing but his handsome face."Do you want me to say it again?""Huh?"Arthur chuckled, watching the woman in front of him grow more nervous. That only made him even more eager to tease her. "Do you want to hear it again?""Ah, well... I mean... since when was I yours? Did I miss something big?" Athena raised an eyebrow, trying to joke so she wouldn't immediately fall into the man's game."You didn’t miss it, you’re about to face it. You're ready, aren’t you?"Feeling even more flustered, Athena was at a loss for words when she felt a warm arm wrap around her waist. Her eyes locked onto his, especially when Arthur gently caressed

The look of sheer disbelief on the Mayor’s face when he realized who Arthur truly was—was priceless. She had never seen the man so utterly speechless before, and knowing that he no longer had the nerve to question her leadership filled her with a deep sense of satisfaction."I think he finally understands that underestimating you was his biggest mistake," Arthur smirked as he opened the door for her."Yeah! And now, thanks to you, Arthur! He won’t dare question my decisions again!"Athena slid into the passenger seat, still beaming. As Arthur started driving, Athena kept talking, unable to contain her happiness. She rambled on about the Mayor’s reaction, the satisfaction of proving him wrong

Even though his relationship with Athena couldn’t yet be defined as lovers, his feelings for her had already grown far beyond that."Athena, I’m sorry. Maybe I’m being too selfish because—""You don’t have to explain everything to me all at once," she said softly, rubbing his face gently.

Feeling goosebumps all over her body, Athena bit her lower lip. Arthur asked almost in a whisper with one of his thumbs that started rubbing gently there. Her heart was beating faster. Her gaze could not look away from the man's alluring gaze."How am I supposed to focus on listening to your explanation if we're so close together like this? Can we just step back a bit and you explain as usual afterward?"Smiling faintly, Arthur moved closer until the tip of his lips almost touched Athena's earlobe. "I'm afraid I can't stay away from you anymore. How about I just explain it this way? I'm not explaining it in words but in another way anyway.""Another way?"Seeing one of Arthur's thick eyebrows raised, Athena's heart beat faster and faster. She didn't know how Arthur was going to explain the answer to her question, so she was looking forward to it even though Arthur was putting some very tempting press

Athena sighed softly before finally giving in to Arthur's request. She turned to the back seat, shifting herself to sit there as she searched for whatever it was that Arthur claimed had fallen."Wait, what is this?" Her brows furrowed when she spotted a small red box nestled between the seats. Her fingers hesitated before picking it up."What? I don't know, dear... Can you open it, please?" Arthur, still sitting in the front, smirked.Athena’s frown deepened, but she obeyed. The moment she lifted the lid, her breath caught in her throat. Inside lay a dazzling diamond necklace, its brilliance catching the dim light inside the car. She stared at it in shock, unable to process what she was seeing."This is....""For you!" Arthur continued, who now completely turned to look at the woman he loved."For me?"Athena froze, her

Leon suddenly appeared from behind the stairs. His voice was sharp and full of accusations. His narrowed gaze made Athena scoff as she failed to find a clear reason for him to be standing before her now."What are you doing, waiting for me in the dark like this?""Just answer me, Athena. Who brought you home?" Leon took a step closer, his jaw tightening. Athena, who saw that, only smiled slightly before finally stepping forward to face the man with her head up fearlessly."I don’t see how that’s any of your concern. What's in it for me to answer your question?" she asked coldly, refusing to acknowledge the accusation in his tone."Of course, it’s my concern. You’re still my wife!""Your wife?" Athena laughed bitterly. "That’s rich coming from the man who threw me away first. You made it clear that I meant nothing to you, Leon. So tell me, why do you suddenly care?""Don’t twist things! I’m asking you where you’ve been and who brought you home!"Getting closer to his wife, Leon notice

She didn’t look back as she entered her bedroom, the soft click of the lock sealing her retreat."Damn it!" He cursed under his breath and slammed his foot against the table leg. The sharp pain did nothing to quell his frustration. Without another thought, he stormed toward his office room, his rage simmering just beneath the surface. The moment he stepped inside, his anger boiled over. He kicked a chair out of his way, then grabbed the nearest object—a framed photo, a vase of flowers, a stack of papers—and hurled them at the wall. Glass shattered, petals scattered, but none of it brought him relief."I take it things didn’t go well?" Edward’s voice was calm but cautious as he stepped into the room, eyes sweeping over the wreckage."She’s slipping away fr

A soft smile played on her lips as she recalled his teasing messages."Madam, are you awake?"Athena blinked as she suddenly realized someone was knocking on the door while calling her name. Quickly, she wiped her face for a moment before getting out of bed, grabbing a cover-up to drape over her rather thin nightgown."Sorry to disturb you, Ma’am. "Reyna—""You think you can take him from me? After everything I’ve done? I won’t let you, bitch!"Reyna kept getting closer, forcing Arthur—who had only just realized her presence—to instinctively shield Athena behind him. His eyes widened, just as shocked as Athena. He never imagined that someone he had always treated like a sister would do something so dangerous to the woman he loved."You’re not a killer, Reyna. Put the gun down!" he said, trying to bring her back to her senses, even though he was still torn between belief and disbelief."I won’t let her take you away from me again!" Reyna just gave a faint smile before her gaze turned sharp again. "I can’t lose you! Not after everything I’ve done for you!""Reyna—""Stay out of this!" she screamed. Her face was twisted in hatred and desperation. "You kept ignoring me while I kept falling more in love with you, Arthur! And now she’s pregnant, you’re just going to go back to her like nothing ever happened?!""Reyna, please..." Arth

"Wh–what?"Athena froze. Reyna’s words rang through the hallway like a bullet to the chest. Her breath caught. Her legs trembled. Her heart? Of course, shattered.Athena stared at Arthur, hoping—no, praying—that he’d deny it. That he’d scream it was a lie. But all she saw was confusion. Horror and silence."You... you really did this?" she whispered, barely able to form the words. "How could you—""I didn’t know what happened, dear. I swear! I don’t remember anything. She just..." Arthur stepped forward, reaching for her, but she pulled away.Athena’s tears, the ones she had tried so desperately to hold back, finally poured down her cheeks in torrents. Her body trembled with grief. Reyna, witnessing her pain, sneered with cruelty. Folding her arms across her chest, she stepped closer, her gaze sharp and arrogant."Believe it or not, but your perfect Arthur and I are closer than you think!""Reyna, stop it!""What? I’m just telling her the truth," she replied without a hint of guilt. "

  • The Piano of Vengeance   More Than Complicated

"Hey!"Feeling the gentle caress on his strong jawline, Arthur tried to open his eyes. Still overwhelmed by sleepiness, he reached for the slender waist of the woman who seemed to be resting against his chest—only for his eyes to suddenly narrow sharply as he realized who was actually with him."What the hell is this?!"His heart stopped in an instant. Arthur woke with a pounding head and a mouth dry as ash. He blinked blearily, only to see Reyna lying beside him beneath the sheets, smiling like a cat that had just devoured the canary."You were amazing last night," she said casually, brushing her fingers through her hair. "I didn’t think you had it in you. I like it!"Shaking his head, Arthur then changed his position. With no clothes clinging to his body and the body of the woman beside him, he had expected it. But he quickly tried to deny it. "I don't understand. What are you talking about? How did you get here? And where are we now?!""You don’t remember?" Reyna asked with a tilt

I’m sorry I never got to say goodbye back then. I just… I couldn’t bear to see you hurting and—""And falling apart!" Arthur cut her off sharply, running a hand over his face, overwhelmed. "Goodbye or not, I still felt it! Every inch of it! Don’t you see that?""I’m sorry. I just…""Why?" His voice cracked, raw with pain, as she struggled to find her words. "Why him? Why choose him over me? Hasn’t he done enough? Hasn’t he already broken you, made your life hell, and—""Enough! Please!"Arthur shook his head again, this time more desperately. Throughout the ride, Arthur couldn’t shake his assistant’s words from his mind. Every part of them rang true. No matter how much time passed, Leon, Crystal, and Caroline would never let him or Athena live their lives in peace. They would never be satisfied, not even now when he and the woman he loved were already suffering under the weight of their cruelty. If they truly had joined forces to weave this trap around him, especially with Reyna relentlessly working to tear him away from Athena, he genuinely didn’t know what else he could do. If Athena were still by his side, none of this would feel so overwhelming. He wouldn’t be lost like this, drifting without direction, weak and broken, like a man abandoned for days in a barren, merciless desert."Sir... it seems your persistence has finally paid off."His assistant’s voice pulled him back from the chaos in his mind. Arthur snapped his gaze forward, eyes narrowing slightly at the sight of a woman stepping out of a taxi. Her face was h

"Sorry..."Not far from the city's chaos, in a modest apartment tucked inside a quiet complex, Athena sat curled in a chair by the window. She had rented the place under a false name, using forged documents—anything to disappear. She knew Arthur would look for her, and that was exactly why she had to vanish. It was the only way to protect both him and Reyna from more pain."I'm sorry, prince. I'm so sorry," she whispered again, though the words barely reached her ears anymore.Tears welled as she hugged her knees to her chest, forehead pressed to the cool glass. The world outside carried on—cars passing, voices rising—but none of it touched her.The ache wasn’t just emotional anymore. It lived in her body now—tight in her chest, heavy in her limbs. Across the street, a couple walked hand in hand. The man leaned in to adjust the woman’s scarf, s

The rain didn’t fall that night, but the sky remained gray as if it understood that someone was lost in the deafening silence. In the room that once echoed with laughter, Arthur sat alone. The chandelier's dim light reflected dully in his lifeless brown eyes. His fingers gripped his phone tightly, as though he were holding on to the last pieces of hope, now almost completely shattered.Athena’s name was still displayed on the screen. And just like so many times before, there was no answer. He took a deep breath, trying to push down the tightness in his chest while replaying every memory he had of her."Ah, that tickles! Let me go!"That voice still sounded so soft in his ears—the way she giggled as he kept kissing her neck. The echo of her laughter was something he could never forget. Her gaze and her smile always warmed his heart, as if he could still feel them now."Where are you now?" he murmured, barely audible. "Why did you have to leave without a word? But his hand touched only the cool, empty sheet beside him. Frowning, he sat up, blinking through the haze of sleep."Baby?" he called out softly, expecting her to answer from the bathroom.Silence.He waited a few seconds, listening. Still nothing. Throwing back the covers, Arthur climbed out of bed and padded to the bathroom door knocking lightly."Baby? You in there?"No answer.A chill crawled up his spine as he slowly pushed the door open. Empty. Pristine. The room smelled faintly of her perfume, but there was no trace of her presence. No running water. No voice calling back.He turned around, eyes scanning the bedroom again.
