Chapter 3

Author: Lil' Falafel
Before long, two luxury cars pulled up at the hotel entrance. Many of the guests, curious to see what could happen, followed us in their own cars all the way to our destination.

When the cars stopped, I asked the driver to let Victor off.

Victor took off his sunglasses and looked around, his face turning red with rage as he yelled, "What the hell, Colin? You actually brought me to a cemetery? What's your plan?"

"Calm down, and just follow me," I assured him and led him a few steps forward until we stopped before a tombstone. "Now, take a good look. Whose tombstone is this?"

He gave the tombstone a half-hearted glance before throwing his head back and laughing. "Alright, alright. I'll admit you've gone all out, even going so far as to fake a tombstone to avoid a divorce. But Colin, it's useless.

"I don't care how much you spread rumors about her supposed death. You can't deny that she's the mother of my child."

Victor seemed to have lost all patience and gave me an ultimatum. "If you initiate the divorce now, I might still convince her to leave you some cash. Keep dragging this on, and you will end up miserable."

By then, even the usually calm Serena couldn't help but break into an exasperated laugh. She pulled out her phone, turned on the flashlight, and shone it on the tombstone.

"Hey, Victor. Take a good look at the woman in the photo. Is she the same woman you spent Valentine's Day with?"

He stared at the photo on the tombstone. After a few seconds of stunned silence, he pointed at me and cursed, "You're a heartless bastard, Colin. I can't believe you had the nerve to put her photo on a tombstone just for this act!"

Seeing how determined Victor was to drag out the commotion in the otherwise peaceful cemetery, my friends couldn't take it anymore and started chiming in.

"Dude, are you out of your mind? Colin's wife died three years ago!"

"You can look it up online—the news about an avalanche at the ski resort three years ago, where a tourist died."

I watched Victor's face twist with both shock and anger, and I began to suspect that he might have been deceived.

"Does the Phoebe you know like skiing as well?" I asked.

He hesitated briefly before nodding. "Of course. She basically taught me how to ski."

"Victor, listen to me," I explained with a solemn look. "Three years ago, she went to a ski resort abroad and unfortunately got caught in extreme weather and an avalanche.

"She was buried under the snow, and the rescue team couldn't find her body even after searching for a week. They concluded that her body was swept off the cliff, and there was no chance of survival."

As I spoke, I pulled out my phone and showed him the photo of Phoebe's funeral.

Mr. and Mrs. Jackman stood in the most prominent position in the photo. "Her parents have accepted this tragedy. They were the ones who chose this cemetery and tombstone.

"Plus, all her official records prove her death. I'm sure you've been deceived. There's no way the woman who had your baby was Phoebe."

However, Victor's expression only shifted from confusion to shock, then eventually to anger under everyone's mocking stares.

"Enough with the nonsense, Colin! I already texted Pheebs in the car. She's coming right now to initiate the divorce!"

At that point, Serena had lost all her patience. She grabbed my hand and tried to comfort me. "He's insane. Let's not waste any more time on him and go back to the party, okay?"

Out of nowhere, Victor started snapping pictures of me and Serena again, still threatening to expose my so-called affair.

Just as I was about to turn around and leave with her, he jumped up, laughing as he waved toward the entrance of the cemetery. "Pheebs, you're here! I knew you'd come to my rescue!"

I gave up my inheritance and didn't take a single penny from Phoebe.Frankly, it was a good call because it kept me from getting tangled up in her debts. Instead, all that massive debt and the nearly bankrupt company were left for the shareholders to deal with. With Phoebe's "revival", all the shady things she did back in the day were out in the open. The shareholders who once cleaned up her mess were now after her parents. They blocked Mr. and Mrs. Jackman, yelling and demanding their money back."You raised a piece of trash, and it's ruined my life! I had to sell my house and car just to pay off her debt, while she's living it up, getting college boys in bed and herself pregnant!"She's a scum that needs to rot in jail! Even if she dies in there, she's gotta pay us back what we're owed!"In the meantime, I received an apology letter from Victor in the hospital. He finally understood that it was me who had been sponsoring him all these years, not Phoebe.None of that money had

Phoebe yanked Victor's hair, not sparing him from her vicious reprimand. "You could've lived your comfortable life in silence, yet you had to come out here and create a mess for me to clean up!"I'm aborting the baby. Who knows if you've got any STDs, considering how promiscuous you are. You wanna covet my family's fortune? Dream on."She slapped him repeatedly until he was knocked to the ground. Then, she suddenly stepped forward and turned to me with feigned loyalty."You see that, Colin? I have no feelings for him. It was all just for fun… For the past three years, I've only been thinking about you and how I can return to your side…"Only I knew how much her words made me sick. They also made Serena seethe with fury. She grabbed hold of Phoebe, her voice trembling with rage."Hey, did you forget you were dead? Who are you to blabber around here? Quit your fake loving, emotional act. If you'd really loved him, you wouldn't have abandoned him without a second thought!"Serena's

All I could think about was how she had gotten pregnant with my beneficiary's child and lied to me, along with her parents, for three whole years. Now, the only feeling left when faced with her face was pure disgust. "I'm sure you brainwashed Victor into believing all the accusations he threw at me, as well, huh?"You've been using my good deeds to deceive people, seducing young guys, badmouthing me behind my back, and pretending to be all loving. You're worse than an animal."After venting my frustration, I delivered a slap across her face without a second thought. The sound of that crisp slap quickly attracted a crowd.Victor ran over and shielded Phoebe, squaring up. "How dare you slap Pheebs! I'm gonna kill you!"As always, Serena stood before me protectively, wearing a fierce expression. "Nobody touches my boyfriend!"Seeing the hostility displayed toward me by Victor, Phoebe not only didn't confront me for the slap but returned one to his face instead."It's all because of

Phoebe immediately appeared frantic, but her eyes were full of hostility toward Serena. "This is between me and Colin! Stay out of our business!"With that, she suddenly grabbed my arm and pulled me away toward a quiet, secluded corner when Serena wasn't paying attention.Victor, left standing awkwardly, tried to follow, but Phoebe impatiently snapped, "Get out of my face. This mess started because of you and your nonsense! I'll deal with you later!"At that, Serena immediately got agitated and seemed ready to chase after Phoebe. Her eyes burned with possessiveness and protectiveness for me, but I gently reassured her."Don't worry, we're not going far. Let me talk to her. If anything happens, I'll call you right away."My calm and gentle reassurance eased Serena, and she decided to trust me. Phoebe, on the other hand, ground her teeth and shot us a cold stare.Of course, she had no choice but to go along with my wishes and didn't go too far.I flung her hand away. "Are you real

"Look at him and his mistress! That's the proof of his infidelity! He's been spending your money on another woman! You should sue him, make him return you all the money, and then divorce him!"Although the woman was growing increasingly embarrassed, Victor continued to talk as if he were in control, giving me orders."See? Pheebs hasn't considered you her husband for a long time. You're only embarrassing yourself if you keep defying me. Everyone here can prove you've cheated."You want to sue me? I'll have Pheebs sue you into bankruptcy first!"By then, the people around had gotten used to Victor's erratic behavior. Therefore, their attention turned to "Phoebe" instead. Those who once knew her well came closer to get a better look at her."Her features are exactly like Phoebe's… Could she really be her?""But I attended her funeral! The police confirmed that she couldn't have survived the avalanche…""What on earth is going on? Did she fake her own death?"Victor was furious w

Everyone collectively turned toward the entrance of the cemetery. A woman was scurrying toward us, only to freeze at the sight of me.After a startled pause, she suddenly lunged toward me and wrapped me in her arms. "Honey, I swear things aren't as Victor said! You've got to hear me out!"Serena quickly snapped into her fight mode, pulling the random woman away and slapping her on the face. "Get your hands off my boyfriend!"The woman staggered a few steps back, barely managing to steady herself. When she wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth and looked up, everyone who once knew Phoebe was stunned."How… How do you look so much like the Phoebe we knew?"I stood there, agape and too shocked to close it. In the midst of the shock, only Victor managed to let a wild laughter escape. He cleared his throat, then walked over to put his arm around the woman's waist. "They say you were dead, Pheebs. When I yelled at them, they cornered me. You've got to say something, babe!"Howe
