Chapter 3 Flashbacks

Author: Mimi Winterrest
As nausea hit me. I rushed into the bathroom and retched, but nothing came out except bitter bile.

I stared into the mirror. A woman with reddened eyes and a pale face stared back at me.

My stable and happy life over the last four years felt like a dreamy, iridescent bubble.

Now, it had burst. Nothing remained.

There were no tears on my face.

I was too furious and shocked, and tears would not come.

I picked up my phone and opened Ramona's profile again, searching for clues in the photos where she had been careful not to show her face.

The window was left ajar in one of the photos, revealing the top of a building.

It was the Starwell TV Tower, a landmark building of Silveridge.

Another photo revealed the sign of a famous chain coffee shop.

The third photo captured the flower bed outside the neighborhood.

In less than half an hour, I had tracked down Ramona's location. She lived in Camphor Heights in Silveridge.

A popular amusement park was only two miles from her neighborhood.

Without hesitation, I changed into a comfortable tracksuit, grabbed my car keys and personal documents, then walked into the garage.

I had planned everything out the moment I started the engine.

It was pointless to yell at him on the phone or listen to his lies.

I needed to see everything with my own eyes.

I wanted to find out how the man I risked my life to save and the woman I poured my heart out to betray me. I wanted to know how they trampled on my dignity and built a family without my knowledge.

My grip tightened around the steering wheel until my fingers turned white.

Memories from my youth flashed through my mind.

When we were sixteen, Luke had been hurt by his father and hid in my guest room, tugging at my shirt as he looked at me like an abandoned puppy. "Bianca, you're the only one I have now."

When we were twenty-two, he dropped to one knee with a diamond ring between his fingers. Tears were twinkling in his eyes as he proposed to me. "Bianca, I'll always put you before myself."

Last week, he was drying my hair when he gently suggested, "Bianca, let's have a kid. A daughter will be the best. She'll be as beautiful as you."

Back in our university dorm, Ramona had once promised me, "Bianca, I'll be the first to fight anyone who wrongs you."

Then, it was the day at the airport before she departed. She hugged me tightly while crying. "Bianca, I wish you a happy life."

Those scenes flashed through my mind one after another before finally stopping at the photo of those intertwined fingers. 'He always comes to visit us. We are a happy family of three.'

I never knew how good at pretending Luke was until today.

When I arrived at the amusement park, I took a break.

The next day, Ramona's timeline was updated.

'Good morning, world! We're going to the amusement park today. My little boy looks super adorable in his teddy bear onesie!'

She had taken a selfie in the passenger seat. From the interior, I could tell she was sitting in Luke's Maybach.

I waited patiently at the entrance.

This time, I would catch them with my own eyes.

I sat on the other side and stared back at him indifferently.I loved him for decades and saved him twice."You know what, Luke?" I began calmly, my voice echoing through the empty room."If you had told me the truth at the amusement park and shown remorse, I might have chosen to forgive you and only divorce you. However, you didn't think two-timing me was wrong. You continued to lie to protect yourself. As if my words hurt him, he closed his eyes. Tears slid down his face."I'm sorry, Bianca. I'm truly sorry. Can you give me another chance? Please, for old time's sake."I laughed so hard my tears threatened to spill. "Do you remember the question you asked me?"I leaned closer to the glass and looked straight into his eyes. "You asked whether I would abandon you."His body began to tremble violently."Here's my answer." The smile slipped from my face as I looked at him coldly. "Yes, Luke. I'm throwing you away now. From now on, you can stay exactly where you belong and spen

  • The Post That Ended Us   Chapter 9 Lose-Lose Situation

I sued Luke for bigamy and fraud.Although the fake marriage certificate allowed him to bypass the law, it was undeniable that he had been presenting himself as Ramona's husband and shared a son with her. After the court summons was delivered to Luke, I received a call from an unfamiliar caller ID.I heard Luke's panicked cries and Ramona's screams."Are you happy now, Bianca? What do you want next? Will our deaths please you?" Ramona snarled from the other end. "What else do you want? Will you only be satisfied if we die? You ruined me! How is my son supposed to live after this? You vicious woman!""That's rich coming from you," I replied coldly. "When you flaunted your stolen life online and anonymously reported me to my boss, did you ever think about my reputation?""I'm going to kill you! I swear!" She screamed into the phone. Then, I heard a heavy thud, followed by Luke's furious roar. "Enough, Ramona! It's all your fault! If you hadn't tricked me, I wouldn't have lost Bi

On the same day, I returned to my hometown and stayed with my parents.I locked myself in the room and never ate anything, simply checking my phone from time to time. Knowing Ramona, she would not give up yet.As expected, my boss called me the next morning, his voice dead serious. "Explain this, Bianca. We received an anonymous email with photos attached, claiming you're a homewrecker."I sneered. 'It's always the same old trick from Ramona.'Out loud, I said, "No, I'm not a homewrecker. I'll handle it. I'll resign for now so the company won't be dragged into this."After the call ended, I logged in to Twitter and other forums. Her post had gone viral on every platform. She even hired trolls to spread my personal information. The netizens ganged up on me.'The poor wife! The homewrecker deserves a slow death!''You really can't judge a book by its cover. She's pretty, yet she's wicked.'The malicious comments failed to ruffle me.Ramona thought striking first could make h

My accusation struck Luke exactly where I expected. His gaze snapped up to my face, and all the color drained from him. His trembling eyes revealed the conflict tearing through him.During eighth grade, his parents divorced. He tried to stop it from happening, but instead, his father beat him and threw him out of the house.I was taking out the trash when I found him. I brought him to rest in the guest room. He was shaking like a leaf the whole time and refused to answer my question. When I finally wanted to go to bed, he held my wrist, not letting me go. He had the same sad look on his face back then. "Bianca, did you plan to throw me away as well?"Now, as if driven mad, he shoved Ramona away and threw himself at my feet. Clinging to my legs, he choked on his tears."It's not like that, Bianca! I never want to abandon you! I won't go anywhere! Please don't look at me like that. Please don't give up on me!"My words had easily crushed his fragile composure. The once-isolate

Their house was located at a riverside flat in Silveridge. When they invited me in, I couldn't help but chuckle sadly. The interior design mirrored my own house. To be precise, this place felt warmer and lived-in than mine.In the entryway was a smart shoe cabinet. I came across it online recently and had not even bought it, but they had installed theirs in their house. On the coffee table were scented candles of a niche brand I liked.I saw every single item I wanted in my house in this place. Now, I realized Luke always bought two pieces of the items I shared with him.One was to shut me up, while the other one was to please Ramona. The worst was their wedding photo hanging on the wall behind the couch.Ramona smiled radiantly while Luke kissed her forehead. Behind them, the sun was setting.I had always wanted to take wedding photos there, but Luke had claimed his work schedule was too busy for an overseas trip. As compensation, he let me choose any location in the countr

Ramona's expression froze when she recognized me.Her eyes widened, and her mouth fell open in shock. In an instant, all the color drained from her face. Her phone dropped to the ground with a thud.At that moment, Luke returned with two ice cream cones from the vendor."Howie, Mona. I got the ice cream!"He shouted cheerfully while following her gaze to me.When he noticed me watching him coldly a few feet away, his smile froze on his face, mirroring Ramona's earlier.Laughter and chatter came from the nearby crowd, but only silence filled the air between the three of us.Ramona finally took a step back and grabbed the hem of her shirt as though she had seen a monster.A polite smile widened on my face when I addressed them. "Fancy seeing both of you here."Then, I spoke clearly. "Aren't you going to invite me to your house?""B-Bianca…" Luke finally spoke, but his voice was hoarse and trembling.Ramona's lips parted to say no, but she decided against it when she met my co
