{Ace}

“Hello! Could you please point me to the Quantum physics lab?”

A male student wearing coke bottle glasses stops in the hallway. He looks me over before pointing to the left. “That way.”

“Thanks…”

Turning in the other direction, I toss the bag of hamburgers and fries into my right hand. I glance at my watch. “It’s past lunchtime already. Damn queue!”

“Stop! You are hurting me!”

I stop in my tracks. I know that voice. My ears prick up. I look at the door labelled: SUPPLY ROOM.

“Shut up! You already gave your virginity to him. Why are you acting innocent now?”

“I didn't!”

My foot sends the door flying off its hinges. The two figures in the room jump, startled.

“Don’t you dare!”

I grab Matthew by the collar, throwing him to the wall. He crashes against a shelf like a rag doll.

“Are you okay?”

Faith nods. “Yes…”

Tears stream down her cheeks. Her lips tremble. Just then, I notice the tear in the bust of her dress. Her lacy bra is showing.

“You!” Something pops in my head. I pull Matt

{Ace}I look up from my wristwatch, expecting to see Kourtney already done with her quick bite. So why am I seeing Faith standing before Kourtney and glaring like she's ready to throw hands?“What’s going on here?”Their heads turn in my direction at the same time.“She started it!” Kourtney points at Faith.Faith frowns. “I didn't start anything. Was just trying to talk her out of using illicit drugs.”“What!” Kourtney and I exclaim at the same time.“Don’t even try to play dumb now!”She turns to me again, pointing to the sink. “I saw her taking three pills from a weird-looking blister pack. When I tried to talk to her, she shoved it down the garbage disposal.”Kourtney presses her forehead. “You don't know shit! How dare you accuse me!”The pills must have been one of the medications Kourtney was placed on recently. I understand why she would resort to shredding it up.But what I don't understand is why Faith is so concerned about Kourtney’s business. Doesn't she like the fact tha

{Faith}The clock on the wall stops ticking. Silence falls. Everyone magically fades into a dark background. A spotlight appears out of nowhere and shines in my face. I squint, only to see that I am alone…With him.His expression turns serious. “Answer the question, Princess.”A boulder forms in my belly. My breathing stops, but my heart starts to race. Oh, my God! Why would he ask such a question out of the blue? Is it really that obvious? My feelings for him?He regards me carefully. “Since you are taking this long to answer, should I assume that you really are in love with me?”“Ew! No!”The spotlight suddenly fades from my face. The clock starts to tick again, and the chattering from the living room resumes.I blink hard, only to find Susan watching the scene like it’s some live performance. I turn my head to Ace.“Me? In love with you? Why would you even think that?”A flicker of disappointment crosses his eyes. He leans back on his chair. “Oh… I guess I read the signs wrong.”

{Faith}This is torture. I can't stay awake. Can't feel my legs or arms. I keep having nightmares as I lie here. And the hallucinations… they won’t stop coming. Even now, I can smell him and feel his presence even though he’s not here.I don't know what Susan injected into me. But once it wears off, she and I are going to have our very first fight. She better have a good explanation for why—“Princess…”A voice, low and husky, whispers into my ear. My heart does a backflip. I try to open my eyes, but they feel as heavy as lead. Why does this feel so real? I move my right hand, only to feel something hard. I press against it.“Ouch! Be gentle…”There it is again! That voice.I force my eyes open with all my might. I see nothing still, but the sound of soft breathing reaches my ears.“Ace?”“Yes, Princess.”An arm pulls me close. Something soft presses against the top of my head. “I am right here.”I blink hard and open my eyes again. And then I see his face glowing in the dark. His ey

{Ace}A spiral.A dark abyss.Nothingness. That’s all I see.Where am I?Am I dead?“Ace!”Suddenly, a piercing wail rings in my ears. My body shoots up and my eyes fly open.“Faith…”There’s an itch in my throat and my voice comes out raspy. I looked around, only to find myself lying in a bed covered with a bright flowery blanket. A brown wooden nightstand sits nearby. On it is a bowl filled with scalpels and whatnot.Where the fuck am I? How did I land here? The last thing I remember is getting shot multiple times in the chest by Marcello’s son. After leading them away from Jerry for about twenty minutes, they finally accosted me at a small intersection, still in the middle of nowhere. My life flashed before my eyes, and so did the bullets. They left me for dead. So how am I still alive?I throw off the girly blanket. The second my feet touch the ground, I freeze as a tearing pain shoots through my whole body from my chest.“Argh!”The wooden door immediately swings open. A middl

{Faith}Usain Bolt has got nothing on me as I run out of the kitchen. A green Prius pulls into the driveway the second I get outside. My heart stops. This isn't Ace’s car! In fact, I have never seen this car in my life! The door to the driver’s seat opens. A head with red hair sticks out.“Jerry!” I run over to him.Jerry closes the door with his left hand. His right arm is hanging in a sling. His lips are cracked and dry as he forces a smile. There's a small fresh cut just at the corner of his left eye.“Where is he?” I peer into the car, only to find all the seats empty.“Ermm…”I grab his shirt. “Where is he!”“Calm down, Faith.”“Don’t tell me to calm down! You two left together, didn't you? Why are you back home without him? What happened to him?”A sharp pain tears through my heart. “Did something bad happen?”Jerry exhales.I clutch his crumpled shirt tighter. “Is he dead? Is my Ace dead?”He exhales again.Out of the corner of my eyes, I see Ace’s men gather. Their heads lower

{Faith}As soon as I make it far from the crowd, my phone buzzes in my bag. I take it out and see an unsaved number on the screen. The text message contains only a link. Panic coils in my chest as I tap on the link.It loads slowly. What’s happening? Did one of Ace’s enemies kill him and then send an untraceable link to the gory scene? No, that cannot happen! Finally, the link loads into a green and white text interface. A message pops up a second later.[That’s my girl]Ace? Is he here?I look around quickly, but he's nowhere to be found. How did he know what I just did? And why is he texting me through this weird thingy? My fingers tremble as I text back.
