Chapter 17

As we both chuckled, the tension that had been hanging in the air dissipated, if only for a moment. The car ride home was quiet, and as I drove, my mind wandered to thoughts of Cassandra and our future together. I found myself daydreaming about starting a family, imagining running around with our sons and spoiling our daughter, and it brought a warmth to my heart.

When we arrived home, ready to unwind after a long day, Cassandra headed to the shower, and I sank onto the couch, lost in reflection about the challenging day.

Flashback

I woke up to the morning sun, my stomach churning with regret for indulging in the rich lobster dish the night before. But my mood brightened as Julie, my girlfriend, entered the room with a steaming cup of coffee, her smile as radiant as ever. "Thanks, babe!" I grinned, giving her a peck on the lips.

"You're welcome," she replied absentmindedly, her eyes still fixed on the newspaper. "I don't feel too well. I'm feeling a bit queasy."
