Chapter 4

ผู้เขียน: Stars
I went deep into the Thornwood Forest to find a witch, searching for a potion that could sever a mate bond.

Before Sebastian left, I hesitated for a long time. In the end, I decided to tell him.

"Sebastian, I've thought about this for a long time. We should... sever our mate bond."

He froze, then looked at me like I had said something absurd. A moment later, he let out a short laugh.

"So this is about the vacation? You didn't get your way, and now you're talking about breaking our bond just to get my attention?"

Before I could respond, his phone rang. He answered it, and the tension in his face vanished instantly.

"Alright. Okay. I'll be there right away."

He hung up, grabbed his suitcase, and didn't even spare me a glance.

"I'm busy right now. Whatever you want to say can wait until I'm back."

He didn't take my words seriously. To him, I was just throwing a tantrum.

And the "busy" he mentioned was nothing more than leaving on a trip with Charlotte.

I found the witch's cabin hidden deep in the forest.

"I don't do business at a loss," the witch said, her voice sharp and old. "What do you have to trade?"

My bank card was frozen, and there was no way I could scrape together that much money on short notice. I was about to call a friend to borrow some when my phone buzzed as soon as I turned it on. There were multiple missed calls and unread messages from Sebastian.

Because of the frozen card, he had unleashed everything he had bottled up. Toward the end, he outright screamed at me, threatening to break the mate bond himself.

With no money on hand, he pawned his ring and even sent me a photo.

[See? You forced me to do this.]

That photo reminded me of something I had almost forgotten.

Our rings were set with moonstone. It was rare, luminous, and incredibly valuable. Moonstone was not only beautiful. It was also a precious ingredient used in a witch's potions.

So, the symbol of what I once believed was our love became the price I paid to sever our bond.

We had begun with that stone, and we would end with it.

How ironic.

I took the potion from the witch's hand.

I knew Sebastian never truly wanted to break our mate bond. To him, it was just another threat.

He was convinced I wouldn't dare break our mate bond, so the moment he brought it up, he expected me to give in to every one of his demands without question. But every unreasonable outburst, every tantrum, slowly drained my feelings for him.

My disappointment built up until it reached a point of no return.

I didn't hesitate. I uncorked the vial and drank it all in one go.

A pain unlike anything I had ever known exploded through my body. It spread fast, devouring my senses. My breathing grew ragged, then shallow. My legs gave out, and I collapsed to the floor. The witch rushed forward in alarm and had me sent to the hospital.

At the same moment, far away, Sebastian suddenly clutched his chest.

A sharp, tearing pain hit him out of nowhere. His vision went dark, and he nearly fell. Charlotte rushed forward to steady him, her voice filled with concern. "What's wrong?"

Sebastian gasped for air. He had no idea why the pain was so intense, or why a crushing sense of unease had settled deep in his chest.

"You must be exhausted from the past few days," Charlotte said softly. "Come on, I'll help you back to the hotel so you can rest."

Sebastian didn't think too much about it. He only nodded and let her lead him away.

-

The day I was discharged, I felt lighter than I had in years. Not because I had survived something terrible, but because there was no longer anyone in this world who could bind me.

The moment I stepped outside, my phone rang. It was a staff member of the Wolf Council.

All procedures for my withdrawal from the pack had been completed, and the agreement had already been delivered to the pack's administrative office.

I went straight there.

When I pushed the door open, my steps faltered.

On the opposite wall, where the mural of the current Alpha and Luna should have been, hung a large portrait of Charlotte alone.

My heart sank.

It seemed Charlotte had already decided she was the Luna, acting as she pleased within the pack.

Just then, I saw Charlotte coming down the stairs. She was dressed in a gown meant only for a Luna, walking with all the confidence of someone claiming the spotlight. She froze when she saw me. Then she smiled.

"Selena, don't get the wrong idea. Sebastian said there's an important banquet next week and insisted I go with him. That's why he brought me to choose a dress."

As she spoke, she made her way down the stairs. When she reached the last step, she deliberately stepped on the hem of her dress.

With a sharp tear, the gown split cleanly down the middle.

The day of the negotiation arrived as scheduled. With no other options, a cornered Sebastian had no choice but to grit his teeth and send Charlotte to handle it.However, Charlotte tried to play a clever trick. She slipped a drug into the other Alpha's water, planning to use it to get into his bed and secretly take photos she could use to blackmail him.But she was caught in the act. Despite her attempts to deny it, the guards escorted her straight to Sebastian.Needless to say, the negotiation ended in complete failure.Charlotte dropped to her knees, begging Sebastian to save her. "I'm sorry. I was confused and wasn't thinking straight. I never meant to hurt anyone. Please save me. I don't want to die."Sebastian had assumed she was merely reckless, perhaps a little foolish. He hadn't expected her to create a disaster of this magnitude. To protect himself, he had no choice but to sacrifice Charlotte. "You did this to yourself. Get out of my pack, and don't set foot in it again.

I drew the curtains, shoved in my earplugs, and collapsed onto the bed.I wasn't letting my guard down for him anymore. All he was doing was standing in the rain, but I had spent years of marriage drenched in heartache.I thought Sebastian would give up, but I was wrong. He chased me all the way to the hospital.Rain plastered his hair to his head, strands clinging to his face, leaving him looking utterly disheveled, like a rogue.I didn't want to see him, but I also couldn't have him causing a scene in the hospital and disturbing my patients. After a long moment of hesitation, I decided it was time to make a clean break with him.As I stepped out of the hospital, Sebastian's eyes lit up the moment he saw me. He hurried to keep pace, gazing at me with that pitiful, pleading look I'd seen so many times before."You don't have to do this. I'm not going to help you. You brought this mess on yourself," I said firmly, leaving no room for argument.Sebastian clearly expected that a

The next morning, I boarded a flight to another pack.Waiting at the airport was Hayden Gray, my former university senior and the newly appointed Alpha King. Back in college, my talent in medicine had already stood out. As graduation approached, he had invited me more than once to join his pack as a healer. But at the time, I had been in love with Sebastian.Blinded by love, I had turned down his offer back then. I chose instead to follow Sebastian and take part in the mating ceremony, becoming his Luna. When Hayden heard that I was leaving my pack, he reached out immediately and asked if I wanted to come work for him. He even offered me double the salary.I agreed without a second thought.Years had passed, and when old classmates met again, there was so much we wanted to say. We found a small restaurant nearby and talked late into the night. After hearing everything I had been through, Hayden fell silent. The wolf who once spoke effortlessly from the podium couldn't find the w

I stayed silent. Sebastian thought I had softened, so he gripped my hand even tighter."Selena, have you even thought about what will happen once you leave me? You don't know how to handle anything. Without my protection, you can't even guarantee your basic survival. The world out there is dangerous, full of rogues hiding in the shadows. You're only truly safe by my side."It's true that I haven't been perfect in some areas. But I'm an Alpha, the best in this entire pack. Countless she‑wolves would kill to be my mate, yet you're ungrateful enough to want to leave me. Who else besides me would ever want you? Don't be naive. I'm the only one who will never turn away from you."I found it ridiculous. To him, I was worthless the moment I no longer belonged to a male wolf.He wasn't blind. He knew how capable I was. He just wanted to crush my confidence, make me feel small, and make me believe I couldn't survive without him. Before I could even respond, his phone rang."Alpha Sebastia

"This is just a copy. Tearing it up won't change anything. I've already taken the potion, and our bond is severed. Even if you refuse, it doesn't matter."Sebastian's mind went blank. His eyes were bloodshot as he glared at me."Even if it's severed, I can mark you again."Without another word, he lunged at me, pinning me to the ground. He forced my neck into the open, fangs glinting as he leaned in."What are you doing? Let me go!" I shouted.Sebastian was every bit an Alpha. His strength was terrifying, and no matter how hard I struggled, I couldn't break free. With his fangs mere inches from my neck, I had no choice but to scream for help. The commotion drew the guards. They rushed over and pulled us apart. My heart was hammering, and without thinking, I slapped Sebastian hard across the face."You lunatic! Do you know that marking someone by force is illegal? Even an Alpha can be punished for this!"The slap seemed to snap him out of it. His red-rimmed eyes softened, and he

Sebastian's expression froze instantly. He snatched the withdrawal agreement from my hands. When he saw the Wolf Council's seal and confirmed it was legitimate, his face didn't light up with the joy I had expected. Instead, a flicker of anger passed across his features."What is this? You're really leaving me?"Charlotte caught sight of the agreement. She froze for a moment before a flash of delight appeared in her eyes. But she quickly masked it, putting on a show. "Selena, are you trying to play hard to get just to get Sebastian's attention? Sebastian only mentioned breaking the mate bond to teach you a lesson. Look at you, letting your emotions get the better of you. This withdrawal can be reversed. Before Sebastian gets fully upset, go cancel it and apologize to him."It looked like she was speaking for me, but she was actually provoking him on purpose.I had seen tactics like this too many times to be fooled.Sebastian gripped the agreement with both hands, his fingers tre
