42. Father didn’t like them

Viktor POV

I didn’t know what to say as I sat next to the woman I named my slave. For the first time, I smiled at her. And I could tell she was shocked, but she never brought it up.

“I would like it if you came back with me to my chambers,” I said out of nowhere. She didn’t even look at me as she replied.

“Yes, Master.” She said. Her replies sometimes felt.. unnatural. Like she was just answering what she thought she wanted me to hear. But I guess that’s how slaves are supposed to be. With her though.. it bothered me.

I let her have a few more moments of silence in the sun. The little ducklings following their mother in a straight line seemed to amuse her. She had the faintest smile on her face as she watched them go by.

“Did you have ducks at your home?” I asked.

“No. Fath-.. father didn’t like them.” She said as she looked down. I could tell that whatever she experienced in her life with him had troubled her deeply. I didn’t like it at all.

I knew of her scars. I’ve seen them
