Letting him go

Sage

I stood in the hallway of the hospital with my fingers clenched into fists in my pockets as I stared at the door to Kaiden’s room. The nurse had just told me where to find him. Room 48. I hesitated for a few seconds before finally reaching out to open the door.

The first thing I saw was the professor.

His arm was bandaged, blood still faintly spotting the edges of the gauze. He was standing near Kaiden’s bed, tense, his jaw clenched so tight it looked like he might snap it.

Kaiden was lying in bed with an IV in his arm, looked pale, too pale for my liking and still somehow managed to be angry. He was frantic, his voice rising every second like he was desperate.

“Call Raines. Call the detective, I need to speak to him, he should be here. Just call him, please!”

The professor didn’t even look at me when I walked in. His undivided attention was entirely focused on Kaiden, his eyes burning dark with fury and something else…that looks like pain.

What was he pained for?

Was he mad

KaidenThe hospital discharged me just before noon the next day, but my body still felt like a patchwork of bruises, it felt heavy and sore from the trauma. I kept thinking of the river, of how close I’d come to dying, of how the professor must have felt seeing me drown. I don’t even know how he got shot but I was feeling really bad because of how I treated him. I didn’t expect anyone to be waiting outside. But when the nurse wheeled me through the double doors, I spotted them immediately and a smile flickered on my face.Sage stood by the car, arms crossed, trying to mask his worry. Detective Raines leaned against the hood, one ankle crossed over the other, his black coat dancing slightly in the wind. His expression was unreadable, but his eyes flicked straight to mine and softened.“Hey, sleeping beauty,” he greeted, stepping forward to open the door.I offered a dry smile. “You always flirt with your victims?”“Only the ones who survive attempted murder,” he said, giving me a wi

Kaiden He hesitated and I turned to look at him, pausing my steps. “I know this is probably a bad time but I remember we talked about going on a date. Let me take you out,” Is he for real? I literally just got back from the hospital and he wants me to go out with him? “I can’t go out on a date right now,” I told him as I eased back onto the couch, I winced from the soreness of my ribs. “Not until all of this is behind me.” He gave me a look that was a mix of disappointment and understanding. “I figured you’d say that. I had to try.” I offered him a faint smile. “I appreciate it, I do. It’s not about you, I just… I need to breathe. This whole thing is making me think I am too reckless. Raines leaned back in the chair across from me, elbows resting on his knees. “I get it. Trauma doesn’t go away because you wish it gone. But I want you to know, I’m not walking away. Michael’s going to answer for what he did, Kaiden.” “I remembered,” I said quietly. He looked up. I

A few days before Kaiden saw Sage with the intern….Sage I was at home when the doorbell rang. I opened the door to find an intern standing there, holding a manila envelope."Hey," he said, flashing a smile. "I have some documents for the professor."I raised an eyebrow. "Couldn't you have just emailed them or sent a fax?"He shrugged. "I didn't mind coming over. Thought it would be nice to deliver them in person."He was good-looking, with a confident demeanor that bordered on smugness. As he handed me the envelope, he lingered a bit too long, his eyes scanning the interior of the house."Is the professor in?" he asked, peering past me."He's out at the moment," I replied, stepping slightly to block his view.He nodded, then leaned against the doorframe. "So, how long have you been working with him?""A while," I said cautiously."Must be interesting," he mused. "He's quite the character."I could sense where this was going. "Just so you know, we're dating."He blinked, m

SageI couldn’t fathom the kind of anger that took over me. It killed me to see the pretty boy threading freely on my territory, especially after he knew that the professor and I were involved.I thought coming here would put my mind at ease but it did the opposite. I glared even harder at the intern, trying to gauge his audacity at even looking at the professor. He smirked at me when he noticed me glaring and I moved forward without even realizing it.The professor pulled me away from the intern with a gentle grip, his chuckle got to my ears and I paused,Was he seriously laughing right now? This was in no way funny."Sage," he said, a hint of amusement in his voice, "I must admit, seeing you throw a punch on my behalf was...unexpected. But this is a workplace and you should behave yourself.”“Behave myself?” I rubbed my knuckles, still throbbing from the impact. "He was crossing boundaries. I couldn't just stand there. I told you he wanted you, standing so close to you to whisper so

Sage I grabbed Kaiden by the wrist, but didn't squeeze, and instead rubbed my thumb over his vein. “Are you sure about this? This isn’t why we came here,” I tried to plead with him one more time. I didn’t want him to be pushed into this but Kaiden shushed me by thrusting his tongue deep inside my mouth, a moan slipped out of my mouth. “I want this with you,” he said. My heart fluttered for all the wrong reasons. This was wrong on so many levels. We only came to comfort him and keep him company. None of this was planned. My lips were too dry to speak, but I was hypnotized by the intensity in his dark eyes, So I leaned forward and left a gentle kiss on his chin as my consent. His eyes were like hot tunnels, inviting me closer but before I could move, the professor stood and approached us with slow, deliberate steps. “How is it going to be? Think you can handle both of us at the same time?” He took off his shirt while asking the question, my mouth watered instantly and you wou

Sage He ripped his cock from my mouth and pushed me so I was laying down, he straddled my face and lodged his cock far inside my throat.I gagged again, tears forming at the corner of my lips while he thrust even more deeply. He was holding my face at an uncomfortable angle to keep fucking my mouth.In. Out. In. Out. Kaiden had no mercy on me, huffing his pleasure, but then his dick pulled out, and I was left with an emptiness in my mouth, so aroused I wanted to hump the nearest pillow."Enough of the foreplay," the professor whispered, I managed to look up at him and his eyes were glazed with pleasure. He was boring a hole in my ass and before my lust soaked mind could consider what that meant, he had rolled me over.Forcing my pants to my knees before bending me on all fours. If I thought I had been hot before, I was burning up like I had been set on fire now.My mouth still ached from Kaiden’s onslaught but I hardly knew that this was going to be easy when I felt the professor rub

Kaiden I woke up to Sage curled into my left side, his breath slow and even, chest rising rhythmically. On my right, the professor was tangled in the sheets, his arm thrown casually across my waist like he’d always belonged there. For the first time in weeks, I didn’t wake up panicked or empty. I woke up extremely happy and content. It’s been a while I felt like this and I like to go ahead and say that I wanted this to last forever. We went at it all night like rabbits, holding each other and whispering sweet nothings. Everything I needed from them, they gave me. The affection and loving I desperately missed was given to me in excess. The professor and I talked afterwards, we just spoke about how happy I was that all of this was behind me. Of course, what Micheal said to me in court really bothered me but there was nothing I could do about it. I could stay and keep looking over my shoulder or I could move on from this. Ethan has gotten his justice and so have I. I looked do

KaidenDue to my words, I met up with them for dinner. The professor insisted on coming to pick me up but I declined.I needed to get there myself. Dinner was at a quiet bistro tucked away on a side street, the kind of place the professor liked, dim lighting, soft jazz, and a menu that read like a love letter to seasonal produce. He was old fashioned so it was expected.Sage had picked it, of course, claiming it was “romantic but not too romantic,” whatever that meant. We sat at a corner table, the three of us, sharing a bottle of red wine that the professor recommended. The conversation flowed easily, starting with light topics, funny anecdotes from Sage’s classes,“You stopped coming to classes. So it was a right guess that you only enrolled because of Sage?”I flushed hard, “yeah but it wasn’t something I was going to admit to you. That would have ruined my plans.”He chuckled and Sage just shook his head at us.“So, you’re back in front of the camera,” the professor said, swirl

RiverThe office was cold. The air condition was not on and I haven’t touched the thermostat in days but somehow, the office was colder than any freezing machine could produce.Silence sat heavy in the room, coiled like a serpent in the corners, wrapping around my shoulders. The absence of Kaiden’s voice, his laughter, his endless stubbornness, it pressed against my chest like a stone.I hadn’t slept properly in days.Sleep was a luxury afforded to men without guilt and I had a lot of it. I was so fucking guilty right now.I paced behind my desk, fingers trailing absently across the spine of a leather-bound book I hadn’t opened in years. My thoughts were far from literature. They were dark. Tied in chains and dragged to the pit of one unbearable truth, I didn’t know where he was.And worse… I didn’t know if he was still alive. It didn’t help that Sage was choosing now to practice apathy. All the things he said were right but he didn’t need to do that right now. Kaiden could be in dang

  • The Professor Wants Me and So Does My Bestfriend   A tiny difference from madness

KaidenThe first thing I noticed was the cold. It was so freezing that it not only made me shiver, it seeped inside my bones, pried it open and lived there.I was so numb to my feet? I was momentarily disoriented. My skin prickled against the damp air, and my wrists ached from the rope that cut into them. I couldn’t move. Couldn’t scream. Could barely think over the pounding in my skull.Where the fuck am I?The basement was dimly lit, but even in the low light, I saw machines, tall, humming monstrosities with pipes, valves, and containers, all reeking of chemicals. I didn’t need to be told what this place was. I’d seen enough of this world to know. A lab. A drug operation. But why was I here?I was naked. Tied to a chair. Exposed and humiliated.Fear didn’t come in a wave. It oozed in slowly, like smoke curling under a locked door.Footsteps echoed.I lifted my head, as much as I could, my neck stiff and sore. Desmond walked in like he owned the room, he actually did.I must have be

  • The Professor Wants Me and So Does My Bestfriend   Everybody leaves

SageThe words the professor had spoken stayed with me like the aftertaste of something bitter I couldn’t spit out. He wanted to involve the police. He wanted to bring Raines into this. It was as if he didn’t hear a single thing I said, that he couldn’t accept what was right in front of him. Kaiden had left.Again.We stood in the middle of his living room, the air thick with the kind of tension that always came before something broke.I still felt like I needed to say something to him. He had spent the entire car ride grumbling. He didn’t say anything out loud but it was pretty obvious with the way he was clenching his hands on the steering wheel. The second we got home, I cornered him.“You should take it,” I said finally, crossing my arms.He stared at me, baffled. “Take what?”“The truth. Take it. Accept that he’s gone. That this isn’t some elaborate kidnapping or some villain from a noir film dragging him off. Kaiden left. He chose to. You seem to be mad at me for voicing out the

Sage The car ride was dead silent. The only sound was the quiet hum of the engine and the occasional click of the blinker as the professor followed Kaiden’s manager through the streets. I sat in the passenger seat, my legs bouncing, nerves coiling tighter with every turn the black car ahead of us made. The professor’s knuckles were white against the steering wheel. He hadn’t spoken since we pulled out of the parking lot, and I didn’t try to break the silence. It was thick with tension, too thick to cut through with words that didn’t feel entirely useless right now. And I didn’t know what to say to him. Finally, the black car pulled into the driveway of a large, modern townhouse on the outskirts of the city. The place was all sharp edges and sterile lighting. A place for people who wanted to look rich, not feel anything. I knew Kaiden was making money for his manager but I didn’t think it was to this extent. Wow. The professor parked across the street, cut the engine, a

SageI woke up with a tight knot sitting right in the middle of my chest. The apartment was quiet. No sign of Kaiden, and the sun had already climbed halfway through the sky.The sheets beside me were cold. He hadn’t come home last night.Rubbing sleep from my eyes, I wandered out into the living room, expecting maybe a note, maybe Kaiden sitting on the couch eating cereal out of the box like he did when he was too tired to pretend to be put together. But it wasn’t Kaiden I found. The professor sat there, hunched on the edge of the couch, elbows resting on his knees, fingers loosely interlocked. He didn’t even glance at me when I entered.“You’re up early,” I said cautiously, voice still raspy with sleep. His eyes lifted to me. They looked tired, more than tired. Hollow. “Did Kaiden come home last night?”I shook my head. “No. I thought he went to see you. He got your message, didn’t he?”His lips pressed into a line. “I went to his condo. He wasn’t there. I waited. His car was gone.

KaidenMy phone buzzed again.I glanced down at the screen through the strobing lights of the after-party. The text was from the professor. “Are you home?” Something about him checking up tugged at my heartstrings. My chest tightened and I wanted to go home even more.Being here was challenging for me. I wasn’t home. I was at the kind of party that used to thrill me. A rooftop venue in the city, neon lights flickering against polished glasses, expensive perfume clouding the air, and beautiful people, too many beautiful people. Some I recognized from the runway. Others from TV. All of them orbiting around free liquor and someone else’s fame.I would have been delighted to have all these people around me,But none of them looked like Sage.None of them carried themselves like the professor.I leaned against the balcony railing, letting the air hit my face. I didn’t belong here. Not really. Not tonight.Months ago, I would have been thrilled to be here but right now, I wanted to be hom

KaidenThe clink of glassware and soft instrumental music floated through the private dining room, but I barely noticed any of it. My attention was locked on the man seated across from me, Desmond, the so-called sponsor, though I knew better now. He wasn’t just another businessman looking to capitalize on talent. He was the distributor. The puppeteer behind the chaos circling my life.Martin couldn’t stop talking. “You know, this whole thing… it’s a damn miracle. The sponsor paid for the new condo in full. Quietly. No credit checks, no delays. Even Sage’s outfit, hell, the professor’s tux too, he took care of it all. Who does that?”He kept saying all the things that I didn’t want to hear. Didn’t he know that I was terrified?I kept my gaze fixed on Desmond. He smiled faintly, swirling his wine like he had all the time in the world. I didn't trust that smile. It was too smooth, too practiced like everything about him.I was skeptical to be here even though I had no choice. I didn’t w

KaidenWhen we got home, Sage was still trembling in my arms.I guided him gently to the living room couch and sat with him, wrapping the throw blanket from the armrest over his shoulders. He hadn't spoken much since we left the boutique. The only sounds were the occasional hitch in his breath and the way his fingers clutched the fabric of my shirt like he needed something solid to anchor him.He really was scared, I can’t imagine how terrified he must have been. Hearing that so close to him must have pushed him off the edge. I hated seeing him that way.“I’ve got you,” I murmured. “You’re safe now.”He leaned into me, his body slowly relaxing as he drew warmth from my presence.“Kaiden,” he whispered, eyes fluttering. “I don’t understand why this is happening. Why me?”“Because you matter,” I said. “More than you know. And I swear, whoever’s behind this won’t get close to you. Not while I’m breathing.”Eventually, his head dropped to my shoulder, and his breathing slowed. I held him

SageIt was entirely unfair for someone like Amir to be real. Tall, lean, with chiseled features that looked like they belonged on a movie poster rather than in a security file, and a voice that dripped with smooth, practiced calm. He was the kind of handsome that made your thoughts scatter just a little if you looked at him for too long. And I was doing exactly that.“Mr. Amir, right?” I asked, extending a hand, hoping my voice didn’t tremble like my fingers did. “I’m Sage.”He nodded, his grip firm but not overbearing. “I know. It’s a pleasure.”He smiled and I don’t mean the empty kind people give when they’re on duty. It was warm. Polite. And it made my stomach flip in a way I hadn’t expected. But as he turned toward the room, I caught sight of Kaiden and the professor. Both of them were glaring.I blinked.Kaiden’s jaw was tight, eyes narrowed like he was assessing a threat he didn’t like the look of. The professor, arms crossed, stood with the energy of a man who’d already decid
