I left Randelle sleeping peacefully under the trees where we slept yesterday after getting drunked.

She looked so beautiful with sunlight filtering through her hair. But there was work to do. I had to speak with Kieran.

I walked through the bustling camp, weaving between wolves. Laughter and shouts filled the air. Then I spotted a familiar broad-shouldered figure. Jake. He was gesturing wildly, telling some exaggerated tale.

Grinning, I made my way over. "Jake! You old wolf, still spinning those tall tales?"

Jake jumped up and pulled me into a back-slapping bear hug. "Jeremy! Good to see ya, brother!" His bright blue eyes slid over me appreciatively.

"Looking for someone?" he asked.

"Yes, actually. Do you know where Kieran is?" I asked.

Jake scratched his bearded chin. "Hmm, last I saw he was over by the eastern riverbank. His camp is somewhere deep in those woods."

I nodded. "Thanks. I need to speak with him about something important."

Jake's eyes lit up with curiosity.
