Chapter 3

Penulis: Greenie
It was almost laughable.

Just like the twisted love triangle we were in.

'I love you, and you love her,' I mused bitterly.

The party was in full swing, and someone suggested a game called 'I Have Something You Have Not.' We went around the circle, each person bragging about something uniquely their own. Anyone who failed to impress had to take a drink as a penalty.

When Jocelyn's turn came, she held her glass delicately, a sly smile playing on her lips. Her voice was sugary sweet as she declared, "I've got a guy...who, no matter what, would always have my back. Who would do anything for me."

The moment she finished, the room erupted with teasing and laughter. "Come on, Jocelyn, that's not fair! You're the belle of the class; loads of guys are into you. You're just trying to get us wasted!"

Everyone was chuckling and goofing around, but I was fixated on the finger she teasingly raised.

She was sending me a message, loud and clear.

I used to think my rivalry with Jocelyn was only about who got the better grades. Then, I saw the truth.

She was not only after a higher score than mine.

Then, it was my turn.

I lifted my gaze, my voice cool and detached as I said, "I've been top of my class every single year since kindergarten."

The room burst into a mix of cheers and playful groans. "That's just showing off! Who can top that?"

I could not bring myself to laugh. My eyes locked onto Jocelyn, and I took a deliberate pause before asking, "And you? Are you just like them?"

Her smile turned to ice, her cheeks tinged pink with anger. After a tense moment, she bit her lip and reluctantly lowered her hand, the one that had been so proudly raised. The glittering ring vanished into her clenched fist.

Soon after, Jocelyn stormed out of the room, and, predictably, Eric was hot on her heels.

I got up and trailed them at a distance.

In the deserted room, Jocelyn's eyes brimmed with tears as she said, "Tessa is deliberately taunting me! Didn't you hear her? She's trying to shame me!"

Eric's voice was gentle, trying to calm her. "I don't think she meant it like that. Don't read too much into it."

"You're taking her side?" Jocelyn's voice spiked, her words laced with a whiny defiance. "Then maybe you shouldn't be with me at all!"

Eric's alarm was instant. He reached for her hand, desperate. "That's not it at all. You're what matters. You're the only one for me."

Seeing his reaction, a smug satisfaction flickered in Jocelyn's eyes. She leaned in and gave him a kiss, her voice dripping with sweetness as she said, "Then stand up for me, will you? Tonight, find some troublemakers... Tomorrow, I want everyone to see her scandalous video. I want her humiliated in front of the whole school: every teacher, every student, until she's kicked out of our elite circle!"

Hidden in the shadows, my heart pounded against my ribs.

I was filled with hope.

I hoped that Eric would say no, that he would at least hesitate.

Because he had always said he loved me.

Were guys not supposed to stand up for their girls?

Eric hung his head, silent for what felt like forever.

However, Jocelyn knew exactly how to play him, pressing against him, her voice a soft purr in his ear as she said, "Eric, just say yes, and I'll be yours to do whatever you want for the rest of the night…"

The moment she finished speaking, Eric lit up like a firecracker, pulling her into a fierce embrace. He breathed heavily, his lips finding hers in a hungry kiss. "Don't worry. I'd do anything for you."

The summer heat lingered in the air.

However, inside, I felt a chill in my bones.

"Tessa, join me for a drink?"

Back in the lounge, Eric's voice was soft with affection. "We're filling out our college choices tomorrow. I'm not sure if I'll end up at the same school as you."

I kept my eyes downcast, silent.

He let out a wistful sigh. "Well, if my grades don't measure up and we can't be at the same school, being in the same city isn't so bad, right?"

"I used to see you topping the class and thought you were just a nerd, buried in books, clueless about life's subtler points."However, once I really got to know you, I realized you're a blast to be around, super smart, and just plain fun."He gave a wry smile. "I knew you had been keeping tabs on me back then. Every time I hit the court, you'd act like you were just walking by, but I caught you every time."I played my heart out because I knew you'd be there, showing off on purpose, hoping you'd notice me... I had cared about you in secret for a long while."He inhaled deeply, his gaze falling. "I didn't come here to beg you to take me back."I never deserved you, not really. That month we had was a gift, a chance you had given me. The fact that you liked me at all was the luckiest break I've ever had."And now, I'm even less deserving."He finished speaking and slowly reached out, opening his hand.I looked down to see a tiny ring: the custom ring I had lost at his place a ye

The room went silent. Everyone was caught off guard.I lifted my hand, signaling to the tech crew. "Can you pull up the original video file we just watched? Zoom in on that part, please."The big screen flicked to life again. The video slowed to a crawl, crystal clear.People crowded forward, squinting at the screen, until someone let out a surprised yelp. "Whoa, hold up! Something's definitely off here.""The movements are all jerky...and the skin texture's way off...""Looks like some kind of computer animation, doesn't it?"I kept my voice steady as I explained, "That's a dynamic animation model I created. I used a game engine I got to know back when I was dabbling in game design. It's been tweaked a bit, with algorithms to make a simulated video. Sorry for the mix-up at today's meeting."However, if I hadn't stepped in with my own broadcast…" I paused, my eyes locking on Jocelyn. "Well, the footage you'd be watching would've been of the actual me."The crowd inhaled sharpl

I continued to smile and said, "Those bullies you rounded up last night? They're still cooling their heels at my place."My gaze slid over to him, and my voice dropped an octave."Eric, you've got my house keys. Why don't you go and check if those are the same guys you know so well?"Eric's face crumbled, his lips paled, and he froze like he was turned to stone. The other students started buzzing like a kicked hornet's nest."No way! She caught some bullies?!""She was onto it the whole time? Talk about a reverse trap!""Eric's toast..."The cops in the room snapped to attention, their eyes on Eric, ready to pounce at any second.Eric was sweating bullets, his eyes darting around in sheer panic, his lips quivering as he said, "No... It wasn't me... I swear it wasn't... I can explain. It really wasn't me!"However, I just chuckled, like I was watching a clown perform. "You know where you really screwed up?"He just gaped at me, eyes wide with fear and begging.I strolled up

The tech guy said, "Looks like they're still on the remote end, and they've just sent us a live video call request."The cop gave a dismissive snort. "Pretty bold. Let's take the call! I'm curious to see who's behind this."Jocelyn's face twisted with desperation. "Officer, you've got to catch her! Don't let her slip away!"The next second, the video was live. The high-def feed showed up on the big screen in the hall. There I was, standing in the airport lounge in a plain white dress, a suitcase by my side, and the flight info scrolling behind me.I looked right at them through the camera, a slow smile spreading across my lips, and gave a casual wave. "Bet you didn't see this coming, huh?"The room went wild."Tessa?! She's behind all this from the airport?!""No way! She set this up ahead of time!"Jocelyn went white as a ghost, pointing at the screen, her voice filled with rage as she shouted, "I knew it was you! You're behind all this trouble! The screen flicked to a new image, and the crowd let out a collective gasp. There was Jocelyn's face, smack in the middle of the big screen. She froze, her face going ghostly white as if she had been clobbered over the head.A second later, she bolted for the control panel, frantically trying to kill the feed."Shut it down! Shut it down! Do it now!"However, no matter how hard she mashed the buttons, the system was like it was in lockdown, not budging an inch. She could only watch, horrified, as her every action was broadcast for all to see, her look of bliss and madness blown up for the whole world to watch. The whispers in the crowd swelled. Snickers and murmurs filled the air, the thrill of gossip undeniable."Is that Jocelyn?""Didn't she just rip into Tessa?""Oh, this just got juicy..."Jocelyn's composure shattered, and she shrieked. "It's Tessa! She's framing me! She's behind this!"With AI tech being what it is these days, faking videos with AI face-swaps is a pie
