Chapter 5

I think we all were confused at this point. A Human doing magic? And how did us, supernatural creatures with superior senses, not see the creature? Or hear it, until it was too late? Or would have been too late. All questions burning in our throats.

“Ok, so first thing is first, I have no idea how I materialized us. I don’t have the amulet, and honestly I just did the same thing I have been doing for the past three months. I thought of safety, and then we were here. So how I did it, with no magic, and only being Human, is beyond me. Secondly, when you’ve lived in Pandora’s Box for three months, you start to recognize the signs of danger. These creatures are stealthy. They never make themselves known until it’s time to attack. By then it’s too late for their prey to escape. I saw the trees moving, I heard the wings flapping, and I knew she only had seconds. I honestly wasn’t even sure if I would make it in time, but I had to try. That creature was an Alicanto. There aren’t a ton of them around, but they show themselves once in a while.” Ambrosia said.

“Ok, it looks like we have a lot more on our hands than we bargained for. Reavers, mind link your coven leaders and let them know to tell everyone to stay inside during the night. Make sure no one goes out and gets themselves killed until we can figure this shit out.” I said. Watching as my brothers did what I asked.

“Come and eat you guys… The creatures aren't going to go away so we may as well eat.” Rosa said, and she wandered back to the kitchen. Everyone started mumbling, but reluctantly followed her and took a seat.

We were all stressed, and hungry. Rosa’s dinner was honestly what we all needed. “Can we kill these creatures?” Rayne asked Ambrosia out of the blue. Everyone stopped talking and paid attention.

It was the question everyone had lingering on the tips of our tongues, but no one asked yet. “I’m not sure the answer to that. The Angels were only ever able to take one down while I was there. It was a creature that lives on the land so they had the advantage of being in the air. The problem is, while you're distracted with one creature, another could come. So you can easily lose your place and bearings while fighting one, just to be killed by another. For some reason they will not attack a dwelling, only a person who roams outside of the dwellings. I have no idea why, unless it's magic pushing them to do so?” Ambrosia said.

”Hmm, We have some pretty powerful people here. I’m wondering if we could draw them out and then attack? Not to say you need to be the bait, but you seem to be the only one who knows when they are coming. So let’s say you stand out there, wait for one of them to come, we watch you and then as soon as you dodge out of the way the Reavers materialize and just throw everything they have at one of them. It should be a quick and easy takeout? If it works, they can get in and out before another can realize what happened and show up. If it doesn’t work then we have two pissed off monsters.” Rayne said.

I tensed when Rayne suggested we use Ambrosia as bait. “Absolutely not, that is out of the question, Ambrosia will not be used as bait.” I sneered, which granted me a glare from Ambrosia.

“Rowen, Rayne is right. I am the only one who has experience with these creatures. If anyone can lure them in and stay safe while doing it, it’s me. I also don’t know if there are a set number of them roaming around, and once they are all dead then they are gone, or if they come back to life? We could be fighting a never ending number of monsters. It’s all so unknown. Plus, the only danger is at night. Anytime during the day these monsters do not come out. People are free to roam.” She said.

“That makes no sense.” Ramses said. “Honestly, nothing about Pandora’s Box makes any sense. I thought it was a prison world. I had no idea we were sending these creatures to another realm where they lived actual lives. The concept is insane to me.” Katrina chimed in.

“Oh yes, it’s a realm and it’s very much alive. It’s not a prison at all. In fact, there are plenty of people who would rather stay there than come back here… Although I don’t know that they have a choice now.” Ambrosia said, and she had a sadness in her eyes.

I know she only spent three months there but it seemed as if she were reminiscing. As if that place was partially her home. I’m sure it seemed like it was after that long…

I’m still kicking myself for letting it take that long to realize what had happened and get a message over to her. I swore that it would never happen again.

(Ambrosia)

We finished eating and had mutually decided to try and take one of the creatures down. Rowen was not happy with my decision, but he didn’t stop me after much arguing regarding it. He had to realize that I knew what I was doing.

What the hell did he think I had been doing for the past three months? Twiddling my thumbs? No, I had been training, and this is exactly what I was training for.

Everyone headed to the front porch and we made sure the Reavers were in line. Nico, Raziel, Rayne, Rowen, Raphael, and Ramses.

The plan was for me to lure the creature in, and once it was visible the Reavers were to materialize to the creature and throw every bit of magic they had towards it. We had to see what would happen.

I turned and kissed Rowen on the lips. “I will be ok.” I said to him. It was the strangest thing but it was like I could feel his emotions, I could feel his turmoil. I had never been able to before, but I definitely was able to right now.

It seemed like I had felt something like this earlier too, when we were in the shower together but I couldn’t place what the feeling was. I brushed it off and turned away from him, heading out into the yard.

I could figure all that out later. I wanted to go far enough not to cause damage to any of Rowens amenities, but close enough that they could still see me.

I just wandered for a bit, looking at the foliage and bioluminescent mushrooms littering the ground when I heard it. The slight rustling of branches, and then I could hear a pounding of feet and realized this creature was on the ground.

I counted to three, and dove to the right hand side. I tumbled, but landed crouched on my feet after two rolls, which was very agile of me, somehow? But it was just in time to miss the wide open jaws of a Chimera.

Within seconds the Reavers had materialized, and I watched as they all shot green fireballs at the creature, who was definitely affected but kept pushing forward.

I didn’t think about materializing this time, but I had run forward in front of the commotion to try and keep a lookout. The green fireballs were helping to keep the creature from snapping at anyone, but I got this strange feeling that I needed to walk over to the creature.

It wasn’t dead, but it was bound within a green flame being held by all of the Reavers, so I walked over to it. “Hold on!” I shouted and everyone stopped and looked at me with wide eyes as I walked up to the creature.

I could feel the creature's eyes on me as I approached. “You... You have our magic.” The creature said. Its voice was male, pearly, and smooth. I heard gasps coming from all the Reavers, apparently they could hear the creature too.

“How do I have your magic?” I replied, and I was met with even more gasps that I ignored. “I do not know, but I can feel it. It runs thick through your veins, just as blood does. Tell me, Human, have you noticed anything strange since you returned from our realm?” The creature asked.

I thought about it for a minute. I definitely had noticed some weird stuff. I was able to materialize without the amulet. I was also able to feel Rowens feelings a bit ago. “Yes, things have been different... Things have felt different since I've been back.” I said. “Get your allies to release me, I need to show you something.” The creature said.

I looked over at the Reavers who were standing still, keeping the creature suspended within the fireball. “You heard him, let him go!” I said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

No one moved. “There is no fucking way we are letting this creature go!” Ramses said with a laugh.

“Didn’t you hear what he said? He needs to show me something, he can’t do that if he’s bound.” I snapped.

I watched as Rowen walked up to me slowly. I raised an eyebrow at him before he spoke. “Doll, you two have been speaking in a language that none of us can understand…” Rowen said softly.
