AT THE DISTILLERY

Leonardo stood in the quiet room.

“You had the guts to hit my wife on our wedding day”, he said to the bloody figure sitting across the table with his head bent.

Carls sniffed. He hadn’t expected a mark on her face. If he had thought about it well enough instead of acting in anger, he wouldn’t have hit her so hard.

“I’m sorry, Don. She has been under my care for years and I’m still getting used to the fact that I don’t have the right to control her anymore”, he lied.

“You never had the right control her. Do you know why I am a Don in my twenties?”, Leonardo asked.

“Yes, your grandfather handed the reins over to you and not your father, Alberto”, he tried to raise head. “Alberto isn’t cut out for this kind of life. He’s a softie”.

“But I am not. I’m ruthless and I kill away every and any threat to my family. Unfortunately for you, you just became one”, Leonardo said with a coldness in his eyes that made Carls shiver.

“I am family, Don. I am not a threat to you”, he said
