Life in a different world

My life in prison was a living nightmare. Aside the fact that I had nobody to visit me, I felt even more heartbroken that I couldn't see my babies. Emily brought them to visit me a few times, but after three years of doing so, she suddenly stopped.

I got curious and questioned why she no longer brought them to visit me. She waved me off in reply that people around were beginning to get suspicious, and that it would be best if the twins remained hidden till I was done serving my term. It was hard for me to accept the choice given, but there was nothing I could do.

Slowly, I found myself adjusting to my fate. I managed to make a few friends in prison, and it felt amazing. One of them was a young, pretty girl named Cindy. She was a year older than me, and somehow we had the same awful fate. Her husband, who was a well known doctor, was caught by her having an affair with her young cousin. Cindy had got mad, and without thinking twice, had a knife in and out of his body repeatedly, making him give up the ghost.

Laura was my other friend I made in my cell. She was pretty, funny and chattering. Unlike Cindy and I, she was framed and sent to jail by her family. Although, she refused to give the specific reason.

After serving three years out of my term, news of Aurelia's miscarriage got to me. A part of me felt for her, but then I was also happy she got what she deserved. No amount of words could describe the deep grudge i had for her and Jordan.

An unexpected visitor came to me one fateful day. To be honest, I really wasn't expecting anybody to visit me after abandoning me for three years. Emily came to announce it to me, and I walked out of my cell with mixed feelings on who it could be. To my utmost surprise, it was my stepmother - Elena.

''What on earth are you doing here?''

That was the first thing that came out of my mouth as soon as I saw her. She wasn't looking bad or unkept at all. Instead, she had her expensive sunglasses on, and was putting on a chanel dress. Her tightly clutched purse was from the same brand as her dress, and her silky, long hair flowed all the way down to her back.

''It's good to finally see you, Ivy,''

Her haughty voice said to me, as I walked over to her reluctantly. I drew a deep breath and pulled out my chair for me to take a seat, while she did the same.

My eyes scanned her slowly, I hadn't seen her since the day of my father's funeral. And that was about seven years ago. What was she suddenly doing here?

''What are you doing here?''

I didn't hesitate to ask. For a woman as tough and sly as Elena Winters, there had to be a reason for her presence.

She took off her sunglasses gently and placed it on the table in front of us. My eyes watched her every movement, never missing a single detail of her. I slowly noticed the brown envelope that was popping out of her bag, and then clicked my tongue in mischief.

''I see you haven't changed a bit,'' she uttered in a tone I couldn't fathom if it was a compliment or not, ''You're still the same whiny, disrespectful, brat,''

''And you're still as sly as a fox,'' I mumbled back in reply, refusing to let her bully me with her words. Continuing my sentence, I said to her, ''Cut to the chase, Elena. What are you doing here?''

She gave out a laugh I felt was displeasing and annoying to my ears. But, I managed to pull myself together and under control. This woman had come with her full intentions of putting me on the edge, but I wasn't going to take the bait.

''You're still refusing to call me mother, you little wench,''

Ignoring her statement, I fired at her hotly, ''Go straight to the point and stop trying to annoy me,''

I knew for sure that she could see that I wasn't playing with her. If there was something being in jail had taught me so far, it was never to allow myself bullied and to always fight back a thousands folds.

''Well,'' she began to say slowly, with me resting my back perfectly on my seat and watching her lips move to speak, ''I'm here for an important issue,''

''Which is?'' my brows arched in questioning along with the movement of my mouth.

Elena leaned over on the table and uttered more in a whisper,

''There's something I need you to sign,''

I snickered. What on earth was going with everyone in the family? First it was Jordan with the divorce papers, and now,.my stepmother wanted my signature on another paperwork? Who knows what it was?

Chuckling in disbelief, I rolled my tongue over my teeth before moving my focus to her.

''And what do you need my signature for? Did Aurelia and Jordan send you here with the divorce papers again? There's no way I'm ever going to sign that,'' I said those words to her with all the sincerity I had left. And that was the fact.

A sigh exited her lips as she licked them quietly, running her tongue fully on them to make it moist. I felt irritated at her actions, but all I could do was calm my nerves.

''It's about your father's company,'' she started speaking slowly, resting her hands on the table in front of us, ''It's at the brim of bankruptcy so I'm selling it off,''

''No way,'' I yelled at her, shaking my head vigorously in disapproval, ''You can't sell that company. Dad gave it to me, it's mine,''

''You're here in jail,'' Elena spoke to me with a tone of mockery, ''Aurelia has taken over your position, and she is the one who brought the idea. Nothing is working out in the company,''

I swallowed hard in anger and disbelief. Just within three years, not even Aurelia could handle what I've been doing successfully. My father built that company from the scratch, and it mattered more than anything else in the world to him. The least thing I could allow was them selling it off.

''I won't allow you sell it off, neither will I sign those stupid paperwork,'' I spoke through gritted teeth, gazing in anger at my stepmother.

She took a deep breath, reclined in her chair, and proceeded to speak.

''I knew you'd act stubbornly. But I'm going to sell it regardless. Just wait and see,''

I felt my anger surging through my veins. And I knew I could do something drastic to her if I was given the chance. I wanted this sly woman out of my sight.

''Get the hell out of here, Elena,''

I warned her, getting up abruptly to my feet. Her aura irritated me, and seeing her sitting right in front of me after making me go through so much was heartbreaking.

''You don't have to be disrespectful about it,'' she clasped back, getting on her feet and grabbing her sunglasses to put it on, ''I'll leave for sure, but I'm definitely having my way,''

''Just get out!'' I yelled at her, unable to hold it any longer. I was going to make sure they all paid for what they were doing to me. It was only going to be a matter of time before I strike back.
