Chapter 4

Auteur: Sarah Lane
When I finally opened my eyes, the ward was completely empty. Glancing at the calendar on the wall, I realized I had been in a coma for three full days. Though a lingering exhaustion weighed on my bones, my body was already healing. I dragged myself out of bed and completed the discharge procedures entirely on my own.

But the moment I stepped out of the hospital, I was intercepted and whisked away to a private chamber in an exclusive club. It suddenly dawned on me. Today was Lucius’s birthday.

[Flashback]

In my previous life, Lucius had thrown a lavish birthday party. Yet, despite being the guest of honor, he was the one giving the gifts. He had gently placed a paper crown on my head and handed me a share transfer agreement, effectively signing over the majority of his empire to me. I had wept tears of joy back then.

[End of Flashback]

Pushing open the heavy doors, I found Planette sitting in the seat of honor, that very birthday crown resting on her head. Seeing me enter, Lucius hurried over, guided me to the sofa, and presented a shareholding document with both hands, his eyes shining with rehearsed devotion.

“Amara, I love you. On my birthday, I want to give you the most precious gift. Here is all my fortune, everything I have. I only wish to be with you forever, never to be apart.”

I curled my lip, suppressing a sneer, and signed my name without a word. It clearly never occurred to him that I would actually accept. I caught a glimpse of momentary stiffness in Lucius’s expression. He had fully expected me to reject his present, just as I had in my previous life. I could practically feel his panic as he realized things were slipping out of his control.

All of a sudden, the crowd erupted into cheers.

“Amara, what birthday gift did you prepare for Lucius?”

“You two are so affectionate! You must have gotten him something amazing. We’re dying of curiosity!”

It seemed everyone in the private chamber was tacitly pretending Planette didn’t exist. I offered a wry, enigmatic smile.

“I actually prepared two gifts for Lucius. I’ll go home and fetch them so you can all see.”

A relieved smile tugged at the corner of Lucius’s mouth. He was absolutely certain that my earlier coldness was just a figment of his imagination.

Half an hour passed. I didn’t return.

An hour passed. I still hadn't returned.

After two hours, Lucius couldn’t sit still any longer. Grabbing his coat, he bolted out of the chamber, nearly colliding head-on with a delivery courier at the door.

“Excuse me, are you Mr. Lucius Corleone? This is a package Ms. Amara Conti sent for you.”

Everyone in the private chamber crowded around, jostling to catch a glimpse of what I had brought. Lucius’s heart soared. She prepared this for me days ago, he thought, thrilled beyond measure. He tore open the box, eager to unveil my gift, but his triumphant words died in his throat. A divorce agreement lay inside. His fingers trembled violently as he flipped it open, and a single plane ticket fluttered out, drifting down to land on the floor.

At that exact moment, a text message pinged on his phone. Lucius stood frozen, his limbs turning to lead. He stared at the screen, his mind reeling, unable to process what it meant.

“Lucius!” someone shouted, breaking the suffocating silence. “That’s Amara’s ticket! She must want you to go after her and win her back! Hurry up! Just go find her!”

Lucius lingered in the hospital for three agonizing days, yet Amara never once graced him with her presence. When the alcohol finally wore off and clarity returned, he found the desperate message had never been sent. His memories were a hazy blur, and he found he could barely even recall what Amara had looked like in his previous life.Upon checking out, Lucius returned to his company, only to find it was no longer his. Standing outside the gates, he stared at the newly replaced brand name. A heavy sigh escaped his lips. He had never imagined his story would end in such absolute defeat.Since the custom yellow roses from Argentina had already been flown to China, Lucius decided to present them to Amara as a congratulatory gift for her business triumph. A colossal sea of yellow roses engulfed the entire building, drawing a massive crowd of onlookers. With no other choice, I made my way downstairs. At the first sight of the suffocating floral display, a cold sneer curled my lips."Luciu

“Yes.” The word tore from Lucius’s throat, heavy and jagged. “Amara, I surrender. You win.”Cassiel sneered, his eyes cold. “Lucius, don’t you think it’s a little late to surrender? You were so stubborn and arrogant just days ago. Now, only when you’ve been completely drained of your strength do you finally bow your head. Isn’t that a little too opportunistic?”Lucius didn’t refute him. He had harbored a sliver of hope during those agonizing days, foolishly believing that a cold-blooded man like Cassiel would never go this far just for a woman. But he had underestimated Amara. She truly possessed the power to bring him to his knees. Standing before them, he felt utterly wretched. With no other choice, he stammered out a clumsy apology.“I’m sorry, Amara. I know I’ve been pathetic. It’s all my fault. I’ve thought about it a lot these past few days. I don’t want us to end up as enemies… I’ll give you everything you want.”My fingertips brushed lightly along the edge of the contract res

Lucius’s chest tightened, a suffocating pressure that left him barely able to draw a breath.I continued, my voice as cold and detached as ice. "The truth doesn’t matter. Planette doesn’t matter. And of course… you don’t matter anymore, Lucius. I don't have an endless supply of love and patience. Once they’re squandered, there’s no second chance.”I lowered my gaze to the acquisition contract resting on the desk, my fingertips brushing lightly over the crisp ink. “Sign it, Lucius.”A memory from his previous life suddenly surfaced in his mind. That day at the hospital, I had said the exact same words, in that same light, indifferent tone. And in the end, I had handed him a divorce agreement. Clenching his fists until his knuckles turned white, he stubbornly refused. “Amara, I won’t agree.”I had known he would refuse. Without another word, I turned and walked toward the door. “It doesn’t matter. You will sign it eventually.”“Because Cassiel will help you?”“Maybe.”Lucius felt his

Lucius returned to the sprawling estate he had once called home. He ordered every trace of Planette’s existence to be burned to ashes, refusing to let a single item remain. Only after the entire house had been meticulously cleaned and disinfected did he allow Amara’s belongings to be brought back. Slipping their wedding ring back onto his finger, he paced the empty halls, rehearsing his apologies to Amara in his mind, over and over again. The sudden, urgent ringing of his phone shattered the silence. His assistant’s panicked voice crackled through the speaker. "Mr. Corleone, please come to the office immediately. Someone is attempting a hostile takeover of the Group. They…"Lucius clicked his tongue in sheer irritation, complaining someone had the audacity to ruin his carefully laid plans to win his wife back. "Got it. I'm on my way."Yet, even as he spoke, his fingers danced across his phone screen. He calmly contacted a florist to order 9,999 yellow roses. When his assistant called

Lucius fell into a heavy, suffocating silence. Only after the door clicked shut behind her did the fragmented pieces of the truth finally snap together in his mind. He dialed Planette’s number, his voice a harsh, unforgiving blade. "Was it really Amara who sent people to harass you that night at the bar?"Her silence was all the confession he needed. A low, feral roar tore from his throat. Raising his hand, he slapped himself across the face with a sickening crack. He was nothing but a complete, irredeemable bastard. Snatching her by the throat, he pinned her against the wall, his eyes burning with venom. "Aren't you afraid of retribution for what you've done?"Planette squeezed her eyes shut in agony, but a twisted, defiant smile crept onto her lips. "Lucius! If retribution really exists, you should be the first to burn."Lucius was instantly paralyzed, the breath knocked out of his lungs. He had no defense."You cheated on Amara for two years, and she never knew a thing. You liv

The warm, balmy breeze of Argentina wrapped around me as I stepped out of the massage parlor. I rubbed my fingertips together and turned to the man standing beside me. "Mr. Angelini, when shall we discuss the details of our cooperation?" I asked, my tone professional and steady.Cassiel cast a cool, appraising glance in my direction. "At the office."In my previous life, I had seen Cassiel on the news, hailed by the media as an unparalleled business genius. Brought back to his family at thirteen, he had carved out his own business empire by sixteen, eventually becoming an untouchable titan in the business world. But at twenty-eight, a tragic sabotage during a business trip to Argentina had left him half-paralyzed and permanently infertile. That was exactly why I had flown to Argentina the moment I had the chance. I intended to stop this tragedy before it could unfold.I was absolutely certain that a man of his stature valued his own life above all else. Whether he believed my warning
