MasukSERAPHINA
I forced a messy, painful shift, the golden wolf emerging once more.
With Kia’s energy completely drained, I shifted back into my human form the moment I crossed the border.
Cold. Naked. Shaking.
All I wanted was Celeste.
But the moment I stepped into the main hall, the air turned lethal.
“Where,” Rexton’s voice thundered, “have you been?”
I barely looked at him. I just kept walking.
I found Celeste in the nursery, and the second I held her, my chest loosened—just a little.
“Put her down,” Rexton said coldly behind me.
I froze.
“Arlo is sick,” he continued. “You’re coming with me. Now.”
"What does that have to do with me?" I ignored him.
Rexton looked hesitant. "They said," he paused.“The boy carries an omen of the next Alpha. But his spirit is fractured. To heal him, he requires a blessing from both Alpha and Luna.”
He turned to me, his eyes desperate but hard. "You will do this, Seraphina. For the sake of the pack."
I stared at him. For a heartbeat, I almost laughed.
I was the Luna—crowned in name, summoned to clean up the consequences of his betrayal.
My fingers curled at my side, nails biting into my palms, but I lifted my chin anyway.
Because that was what a Luna did.
I had no choice. I followed them into the nursery, my heart heavy.
******
Dahlia sat by the cradle, her face pale with grief.
I stopped a careful distance away.
As Luna, I could not touch the child until the ritual was acknowledged. That much was tradition.
I lifted my hands slowly, palms open, letting the faint glow of lunar energy gather at my fingertips. The room fell quiet.
“By the Goddess,” I began, my voice steady despite the weight in my chest, “I ask for clarity, for wholeness, and for the mending of what has been fractured.”
I took one step closer to the cradle, careful.
That was when Dahlia moved.
“Please,” she choked suddenly, surging to her feet. “Let me hold him while you do it. He’s frightened—he needs his mother.”
Before I could answer, before I could even process the breach of ritual, her hand shot out.
She grabbed my wrist.
Hard.
The force yanked me forward, throwing my balance off just as her other arm swept Arlo from the silk cushions.
“No!” Dahlia screamed.
For one frozen second, Arlo was suspended between us.
Then Dahlia let go.
Instinct took over. I lunged, my fingers brushing the edge of his swaddling, heart slamming into my throat—
Too late.
He hit the plush rug with a soft, sickening thud.
The room erupted.
“You dropped him!” Dahlia wailed, collapsing to the floor as if her legs had given out, gathering the crying infant into her arms.
Rexton walked in just in time, and she screamed, "Rexton! She tried to kill our son.”
I stood paralyzed, hands still reaching for empty air. "I... she pulled me..."
Rexton’s face contorted, his growl vibrating through the floorboards. "Seraphina! How dare you!"
"I... I didn't..." I whispered, “You were standing right here,” I said calmly, turning slightly, my gaze locking onto Dahlia. “You grabbed my wrist and violated the ritual.”
A murmur rippled through the room.
Rexton’s eyes flickered with doubt as his gaze shifted to Dahlia.
“She’s lying!” she cried."How could I possibly harm my own child?"
“Oh no. This is bad.” She blurted, her voice like dry leaves. She leaned closer to Dahlia, her hands hovering over Arlo. “The fall has worsened his condition.”
Rexton’s jaw tightened. “Save him, Healer.”
Healer?
A figure stepped forward from the edge of the room.
I hadn’t even noticed her before—thin, hunched, wrapped in layers of dark fabric that looked far too heavy for the season.
Her scent was too dark, too rotten for a Healer.
A chill ran down my spine as she spoke, her soulless eyes slowly landing on me. “Mere blessings can’t save his fractured soul now. Not anymore.”
“Then what do we do?” Dahlia sobbed, clutching Arlo to her chest.
Although I did nothing wrong, I wanted nothing more than to make sure the child would be better. He was, after all, innocent.
But when the dark Healer spoke again, I was struck with the need to protect my own rather than Arlo.
“A blood transfusion ritual.” The dark Healer began, almost innocently, until she added, “Blood from a close relative. The firstborn of the family is a perfect fit. Her blood is the only threat strong enough to stitch his—”
“No…” I gasped, the word escaping me before she could finish speaking.
Even before I could think.
My wet eyes cut to Rexton. “You can’t let her touch Celeste. S-she is only two months old, and she is still recovering from t-that f-fever…”
“You should have thought of that before you dropped the child out of jealousy!” Rexton spat, his voice hitting me like rocks.
“You owe this to Arlo.” He added, his voice dropping into a low, dangerous whisper. “You have to—”
"I didn't!” I tried to tell my truth again. “I swear by the goddess, Rexton. She pulled me—"
“Enough!” Rexton snapped, cutting me off. “You’re to be crowned Luna, but you fail to think about the pack’s well-being. If my heir dies because of your spite, we’re all doomed.”
“B-but Celeste is your c-child too. She’s just as important.” I uttered, my voice cracking.
“We only need her to donate just a little blood. It won’t hurt her, Sera.” Rexton said, taking a step towards me.
He tried to soften his voice and expression, but his eyes were still dark with dominance. “Do this. Save Arlo, and I’ll marry you immediately. Tomorrow, I’ll give you the grandest coronation ceremony.”
I stared at him, the man who thought a stupid ceremony could convince me to put my daughter in danger. I looked at the dark healer, who gazed back at me with the hope that I would break.
Then, at Dahlia, who had stopped wailing and wore a devilish smirk behind Rexton.
Realization didn’t just sink in. It kicked rage and determination into my core.
I was done.
“I will never,” I said, my voice steady now, colder than ice. “I did nothing to your son, and you will not touch a single hair on my daughter’s head.”
The room fell deathly still.
For a moment—just a moment—I thought Rexton might hesitate.
Then his gaze hardened and turned sharply toward the door.
“Guards.”
“Rexton—don’t,” I warned, my heart slamming against my ribs.
Two unfamiliar wolves stepped inside.
“Confine her,” he ordered, his voice stripped of all warmth. “She is not to leave her room until the ritual is complete.”
“You can’t do this!” I screamed, lunging toward the cradle.
But he was faster.
I watched in horror as he lifted Celeste from the bed, her startled cry slicing straight through my chest.
“She’ll be returned once Arlo is stabilized,” he said without looking back.
The door slammed shut.
The lock clicked.
"Rexton!" I howled, but only the empty walls answered.
And just like that—
I was a prisoner.
And my daughter was about to be sacrificed.
ALPHA REXTON~~Lady Tanya? The name… dammit! That lie would have been comical if Seraphina weren’t living it way too perfectly. I sat there, my fingers digging into the velvet fabric of my chair until the wood beneath groaned, while she, Seraphina, stood up gracefully. Every instinct I possessed… every drop of Alpha blood in my veins was screaming that the woman standing across from me was the same one I had once called mine. “She was ours, and she still is,” Kane growled within me, pacing frantically, filling my chest with a suffocating heat.Unlike me, he didn’t care about the games I was playing. Nor did he seem to care about where she had been these past few years. All Kane cared about was the fact that she was standing there, in the flesh and also claiming her. “She’s our mate, Rexton.” Karn gritted his teeth at the back of my mind. “You have to be kind to her—"“I have been kind to her, but she betrayed me.” I seethed as her lips began to move. “Dammit, she betrayed us, K
SERAPHINA~~These past five years, I have been training with warriors while studying medicine, yet I wasn’t prepared to hear a public declaration of war. War was normal to our people, but the mere thought of it made me sick to the stomach. “Might have something… everything to do with the fact that we lost the man who loved and adored us in a war.”Kia chimed in within me, and I completely agreed with her. Although Rexton didn’t die in that war six years ago, my Rexton died and never returned home to me. That war was the beginning of suffering and—and Dahlia.“It seems we need to tighten our security and prepare for war as well,” Kieran said to me, his voice low.I nodded, his words falling like a leaden weight between us as my mind drifted back to when injuries similar to the ones the council described were admitted in the Lycan hospital. “This is beyond the werewolves. It’s affecting our people too.” I whispered back to Kieran, my heart racing even faster than my unsettled th
SERAPHINA~~Ethan’s eyes lingered on me for a second longer than his words echoed. Unspoken words glinted in his familiar eyes, but he blinked before I could decide if I wanted to hear them. Then he gasped, “Forgive my manners. “ He gestured to the curvy, dark-haired woman standing a foot behind him. Her eyes were sharp and observant as she stepped closer to Ethan, whose arms snaked around her waist. “Seraphina, I want you to meet my mate, Remi.” Ethan breathed, a small but bright smile on his face. I was stunned to know that Ethan found his mate, but I soon reminded myself that it’s been five years since he let me escape. A lot was bound to have happened.“Remi, this is my sister. Sera.” He concluded the introduction fondly. At first, I convinced myself that he sounded like that because his beloved mate was there with us, but when Remi spoke, I realized I was wrong. “The legendary Seraphina. I have heard so many great things about you.” Remi exclaimed, her eyes sparkling wit
SERAPHINA~~“Is that him?” A young teenage werewolf pulled the older woman's skirt to grab her attention. “Is that really Dr. Nicola?” The older woman, whom I presumed was her mother, nodded, mirroring the girl’s excitement. “Yes, Nora. It’s the best healer our realm has ever had.”I heard them whisper about Dr. Nicola’s achievements, and I realized that I wasn’t the only fan who would do anything to speak to him. Both old and young seek his knowledge, so I didn’t waste any more time. I turned to Kieran, barely containing my excitement. “I’m going to talk to him!”I could have sworn I saw Kieran’s reflection of the sparks in mine as he nodded in approval. “Hurry up before he gets swarmed.”Smoothing my dress, I stepped forward, pushing past my nerves as I subconsciously looked around for Rexton. I felt like a trapped mouse, even though I could feel Kieran’s protective gaze burning into my back. “Hello, Dr. Nicola.” I breathed politely as soon as I was within his earshot. A pai
SERAPHINA~~Rexton’s questions resonated through the room, and for a second, I paused. The handle was cold against my palm, but I held on to it, keeping my back to him and praying he wouldn’t see the way my body trembled under the pressure of the so-called bond.“What mate bond?” I asked, my voice flat and empty. I turned slowly, tilting my head as if he were speaking a language I didn't understand. Yes, I denied the bond… and I would do it again. And again. Rexton growled, a low sound of pure frustration, and took a heavy step toward me. I mirrored him instantly, taking a sharp step back until I was pressed against the wood of the door.“Don’t pretend you can’t feel it, Sera,” Rexton rasped, his eyes searching mine with a desperate, burning intensity. “You know it’s there. It’s screaming. I bet your wolf is pushing against your skin, wanting to get to me.”“Actually, I don’t want that.” Kia retorted, seething into my mind. “And I’m no wolf. I’m a Lycan.” Rather than share Kia’s
SERAPHINA~~Th-the world… M-my world had gone silent. The music, the clinking of glasses, and the hum of hundreds of voices had faded. It all vanished, replaced by a rhythmic, heavy thrumming in my ears that matched the frantic beating of my heart. It’s t-the m-mate bo-bond…It was screaming, but at the same time, it was a whisper, as if demanding and soothing simultaneously. It felt raw, slamming into my soul the second Rexton blocked my path. My wolf, who had been pacing just because Rexton was near, let out a confused yet clarity-induced, painful whine. “How?” I thought to my Lycan, my breath hitching as I stared into the eyes of the man who had cast me aside like trash. “How could he possibly be our mate?” “The moon goddess must have a sick sense of humor,” Kia grunted, holding on to her rage even though we could both feel the bond trying relentlessly to make me melt before this man. This is the same man who tried to kill me. H-how could I possibly be his mate? And why no
