CHAPTER 6

Aurora POV

The early sunrise gently caressed my cheeks as my eyes slowly opened. I woke up in a large, soft bed that was thrice the size of my former mattress back in the Moonfall pack. Immediately, I was hit with different emotions. My breath caught in my throat. At first, I felt a breath of fresh air without the panic thought of rushing out to early morning duties. However, there was also a pang of guilt that I didn’t get to see my best friend Vanessa before I was hurriedly taken away. 

A wave of anxiety washed over me, not knowing what it entails for me, but I quickly snapped back to reality. “This is a new chance for me.” I consoled myself. I wore the night gown, placed on a chair beside me, and headed off to greet my new Alpha.

“Good morning-” My eyes searched around for Darius. I came out of the room and met a she-wolf outside the corridors.

“Hello, my name is Raven. I was ordered by the Alpha to attend to your every need. Is there anything you have in mind?” She asked. She had the physique of a strong warrior, yet still retained a desired level of femininity. She had a symbol of the Silverfang pack tattooed on her forearm. She looked quite capable of combat. Yet, from her tone, I could sense some skepticism as she stylishly sized me up. 

My cheeks turned red, blushing as I adjusted my gown that revealed my inner wear. I cleared my throat to sound more confident.

“Cough..thank you, Raven. I’m fine for now. By the way, where is the Alpha?” I asked with a concerned voice.

Raven’s eyes widened in shock. However, she relaxed her facial expression with a cheeky smile. “He’s out to attend to some urgent matters. He will summon you when he feels like it.” She said in a respectable tone. Yet, it felt more like a warning. She signaled with her hand for me to follow her. I slightly nodded my head and walked closely behind her. It didn’t feel like a request. As we walked through the hallway. I could see the palace workers and servants staring at me and whispering to each other.

“Is that the breeder that was bought from Moonfall pack? She looks pale.” Some of them murmured between themselves, but loud enough for me to hear. Raven gestured with her eyes for them to stop. But she still had the cheeky smile on her face from earlier, like she agreed with their criticism. 

I clenched my hands as I tried to feign ignorance, but I cursed them quietly. She led me to a large dining table filled with different fruits and cuisines. They were all perfectly arranged on the table, all looking very mouth-watering and appetizing. It felt like a spread from a cooking magazine. 

The table had two chairs positioned opposite each other. There was a long, well-crafted table, which appeared to be imported, placed between the chairs. One of the chairs has the Silverfang symbol drawn on the top, I guessed that it belongs to the Alpha Darius. I sat on the chair opposite it as I dived into the dishes in front of me. 

I couldn’t restrain myself from eating savagery as I hadn’t eaten since I was brought to the palace. It was only after the silent giggles from Raven and others nearby that made me self-aware of my brutishness. I averted my gaze and slowed my eating. I wasn’t hungry as before, so I could pace myself.  

When I was almost done, I gulped down a large quantity of red wine from my cup. That was when it occurred to me that I hadn’t seen Darius yet. 

“Excuse me, do you know what time the Alpha will be joining us for breakfast?” I asked with a puzzled look. Raven curved her lips slightly.

“He already ate before you came down; he left very early in the morning and may not come back till later in the day.” She replied in a formal yet sarcastic tone. 

I slumped on the chair in despair as I remained befuddled by the manner Darius behaved towards me. When he bathed me yesterday, I could feel his sensitive touch on my skin. Yet, he suddenly turned cold towards me without any warning. “What exactly is his plan for me?” I pondered to myself.
