I barely slept. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the anonymous messages again.

*Find the original report before your brother makes his choice for you.*

By morning, I'd read them so many times that the words had started to lose meaning. What choice was Ethan supposed to make? And why would finding the original report change anything?

I was still staring at my phone when Maya walked into the room, already dressed for class.

“You look terrible.”

“Good morning to you too.”

She dropped her notebo

The old rink had been closed for renovations since the beginning of the semester. Most students avoided that side of campus, which made it the perfect place for a conversation nobody wanted overheard.I spotted Roman near the side entrance, his hands tucked into his hoodie pockets. He looked up when he heard my footsteps.“You came.”“You asked me to come.” I stopped in front of him. “So, what is it about Noah that you should've told me ?”Roman looked toward the building before meeting my eyes. “Did Ethan talk to you?”“Yes. He admitted signing the clearance document, but he claims he believed the necessary checks had been completed.” His face stiffened. “You knew sooner about it?” I asked.“I knew there was a document but, I didn't know Ethan had signed it until a few days ago.”“How did you find out?” I asked, staring at his face with so many questions still on my mind. “Someone mentioned it while talking about last season.”“Who?” I demanded, my brows drawing together. “Isla, I

What choice was Ethan supposed to make? And why would finding the original report change anything?I was still staring at my phone when Maya walked into the room, already dressed for class.“You look terrible.”“Good morning to you too.” She dropped her notebook onto my desk. “Did you sleep at all?”“Define sleep.” I rolled to the other side of my bed. “Isla.”I sighed and showed her the messages. Her expression grew serious as she read them. “Okay, that's creepy.”“Very helpful, Maya.”“I'm just saying.” She pulled out the chair and sat down. “Have you thought about telling campus security?”“And tell them what? Someone sent me an email with a photograph of a document and is now sending vague threats? I don't even know who I'm dealing with.”“Which

I watched the message deliver, then waited a few minutes for a response. Nothing came through except for the typing indicator that kept appearing and disappearing. I frowned and sat up straighter. “Come on, Ethan,” I muttered, tapping my foot against the ground. “Just answer me.”I called him and the phone rang several times before he answered.“Isla.” His voice sounded strained, and I could hear traffic in the background.“What did you sign?” I asked without bothering with a greeting like I'd normally do. He went quiet. I tightened my grip on the phone. “Ethan, I know about the report. I saw your signature.”“Where did you get that?” He asked, surprised.“So it's real?”“That's not what I asked you.”I stood, frustration pushing me to my feet. “And I'm asking you a simple question! What did you sign, and what happened to Noah?”“Isla, listen to me.” His voice lowered. “Whatever you think you've found, don't jump into conclusions yet when you don't know the whole story." “Then tel

I stopped walking so abruptly that a student behind me nearly bumped into my shoulder.“Sorry,” I muttered, stepping aside without looking up.My attention was fixed on my phone.*If you want to know why Noah left, ask your brother who signed the report.*I read the message again, hoping I'd misunderstood it. I hadn't even finished processing the first email when another question came to mind. How did this person know I was asking about Noah?I glanced around the walkway. Students were heading toward the hostels, a few people stood near the faculty building chatting, and someone was laughing loudly by the gate. Everything looked normal. Still, I couldn't shake the feeling that someone knew exactly what I was doing and where I was. I looked back at the email and noticed an attachment beneath the message. My thumb hovered over it before I finally tapped, a photograph of a document filled my screen. The image was slightly blurry, but the university athletics department's letterhead was

“But you think it might be him?”Roman took a sip of his coffee, his gaze fixed on the cup. “People leave universities all the time, Isla. It doesn't necessarily mean anything.”I stared at him. “Please don't do that.” “Do what?” He looked up at me. His face was completely serious, like he didn't know what he was doing. I returned the energy. So, with my face looking like I'd just lost something worth millions. I spoke with a very stern yet warm look. “Roman." I made sure my eyes were directly fixed on his. "Don't give me an answer that sounds reasonable but tell me absolutely nothing.”A small smile tugged at his mouth. “You're getting good at that.”“I'm serious, Roman.”“I know.” He reached across the table and rested his hand over mine. “I'm not trying to shut you out. I just don't want to tell you something I'm not sure of yet.”I looked down at our joined hands before pulling mine away to pick up my drink. I wanted to believe him, but I was getting tired of everyone acting as

“Ethan, who is back?” I asked again, glaring at him.He looked at me, then glanced toward the road as if he expected someone to appear at any moment. The hand holding his phone tightened around it.“It's nothing you need to worry about.”I stared at him. “Seriously? That's what you're going with?”“Isla, please. He ran a hand through his hair. "I've had a long day, and I'm not in the mood to argue.”“Neither am I, but, that's all we do now.” I adjusted the strap of my bag on my shoulder. “You told someone I couldn't know about this person, you looked terrified when you heard he was back and now you're standing here telling me it's nothing?”Ethan exhaled sharply and rubbed his face. “Can you just give me a little time?”“For what? To come up with another explanation?”His eyes narrowed. “That's not fair.”“Neither is treating me like a child!”A couple of students passing nearby glanced in our direction. Ethan noticed and lowered his voice, but I was too upset to care.“I've been tryi
