CHERYL'S POV

I stared at him.

The words had come out so casually—You have to promise me you’ll never see Aiden again—but they landed with the weight of a steel door slamming shut behind me.

My first instinct was silence.

Not because I didn’t know what to say, but because I knew exactly what I wanted to say, and none of it felt… safe.

What did I say? That I hadn’t planned to see Aiden? That it wasn’t my fault? That Sabrina had cornered me into it and it didn’t mean anything? That I had kissed Oliver just the night before and meant every second of it—but still thought about the way Aiden used to trace the corners of my mouth with his thumb like I was a prayer he was whispering?

No.

None of those things could leave my mouth. Not now.

So instead, I did what I knew how to do best—I nodded.

“Okay,” I said, voice quiet. “I won’t see him again.”

Oliver’s shoulders relaxed a fraction, but not fully. Like he wanted to believe me, but a small voice inside was still whispering doubt. A shadow clu

  • The Roomie Complex   108 - SUICIDE MISSION?

AIDEN'S POVHer lips were warm.Soft.Practiced.But they weren’t Cheryl’s.That was the first thing that hit me. The second was the cold marble of the wall against my back and the dangerous gleam in Sabrina Baker’s eyes as she kissed me like she was claiming territory. It wasn’t passion. It wasn’t even desire. It was… performance.I didn’t kiss her back. Her perfume was heady, vanilla, something expensive, but my stomach coiled anyway. Her hands slid up my chest like they had every right to be there. And all I could think was: What the fuck is this? She pulled away eventually, breath hot against my cheek, lips flushed, eyes still daring me.“You didn’t stop me,” she said, as if she’d just won something.I stepped away from the wall, brushing my fingers against my mouth like I could wipe the moment off me.“I didn’t kiss you back either,” I said flatly.Sabrina tilted her head, feigning innocence. “Did you want to?”“Do I look like I did?”She let out a breathy laugh and sauntered to

  • The Roomie Complex   107 - DEADLY GAME

AIDEN'S POVFundraisers like these weren’t new to me.Rich people dressed in borrowed nostalgia, sipping champagne, and trying to outbid each other in kindness. They added glitter to guilt and games to keep it exciting. It was all very polished, very predictable. But I hadn’t come here for the glitter, the money, or even the game.I came here for her.I arrived fashionably late, just enough to be noticed but not remembered. Picked up my name tag from the velvet-draped table and clipped it to my lapel. The silver font caught the light. Aiden Scott. Sharp. Formal. Deceivingly tame.I scanned the room like a bloodhound, but my eyes found her faster than instinct. She stood at the drinks area in a gown that looked poured from liquid stars, the sequins catching the light like constellations. Her dark hair was swept up to expose her long neck, and her lips—painted red—looked like trouble wrapped in a kiss. I’d spent nights trying to forget how those lips tasted. I failed every single one.S

  • The Roomie Complex   106 - LET THE GAME BEGIN

CHERYL'S POVThere was something about the way the chandeliers flickered off the polished marble floors that made everything look a little too perfect. The fundraiser had the scent of old money and older secrets. Everything about the Bakers screamed legacy — the pressed suits, the tightly wound smiles, the understated grandeur. I’d slipped into a silver sequin gown that rustled faintly with each step, but it still didn’t feel like enough. Standing beside Oliver and Sabrina felt like stepping into a photograph — beautiful, posed, and entirely staged.I should’ve known there’d be a twist. As we stepped through the arched double doors into the grand ballroom, I caught a glimpse of the other guests — dressed to the nines, laughter polished and brittle, glasses of champagne clinking like wind chimes made of gold. A string quartet hummed somewhere in the distance. Oliver was already gliding into the crowd, his hand finding other hands in firm, meaningful handshakes.“They’re dressed like th

  • The Roomie Complex   105 - SO BE IT

CHERYL'S POVThe house greeted us with silence and warmth, the hum of the chandelier above the foyer casting a soft golden hue over the marble floors. Sabrina and I stepped in, soaked to the skin, our damp clothes sticking to our bodies, hair dripping trails of chlorine and regret across the tiles. I was still catching my breath from the mess of the evening—my nerves still vibrating from the way Aiden’s arms had felt wrapped around me. Sabrina beside me, fuming quietly, looked like a woman who had survived a storm and was still deciding who to strike with lightning.Oliver was the first to meet us.He was standing at the foot of the stairs, dressed in a dark sweater and slacks, one hand resting casually on the railing, a tablet in the other. But the second he saw us—his brow furrowed deeply, lips parting in visible confusion.“What happened?” he asked, stepping forward quickly, eyes flicking from me to his sister, then back to me again.Sabrina didn’t miss a beat. “Some bitch pushed m

  • The Roomie Complex   104 - YOU DON'T MIND RIGHT?

CHERYL'S POVThe car ride back home was hauntingly quiet.Raindrops streaked across the windshield even though it wasn’t raining—the residue from our soaked clothes dripping onto the leather seats, the floor mats, the silence. Sabrina gripped the steering wheel with white knuckles, her jaw clenched like it could cut through glass. The dashboard lights cast an eerie glow over her face, highlighting the wet strands of hair that clung stubbornly to her cheekbones.I was cold—wet and cold, like my bones had been dunked in ice water and my heart had been left somewhere back in that pool.We passed a red light. She didn’t even slow down. Her fingers tightened on the wheel like she was choking something invisible. I shifted uncomfortably in the passenger seat, my teeth chattering softly. The heat was on, but it didn’t touch me. Not where it mattered. The guilt settled in my chest like something heavy, damp, and unrelenting.“I—Anika pushed you.” I couldn't hold the silence any longerI broke

  • The Roomie Complex   103 - I REALLY MISS YOU

CHERYL'S POVI stood frozen as Sabrina’s drenched form shook herself out, water spraying like a storm. Her hair—once sleek and ice blonde—clung to her cheeks and neck, strands whipping her face. Her dress was heavy and dripping, plastered to her form, revealing the tension locked in her muscles. She now had a little bit of mascare dripping from her eyes, plus the angry wildness of her eyes made her look like a crazed banshee.“This is insane—I got pushed!” she yelled, voice loud enough to halt conversations and attract curious stares. “Someone shoved me into that pool!”Anika, leaning against the far wall, didn’t miss a beat—cold blue eyes locked on me with pure hostility. She didn’t flinch. Didn’t blink. It was like she had mastered weaponized stillness.Mid-murmur, Sabrina locked onto Anika. Words tumbled out: “It was you, Anika. You pushed me!” Sabrina's soprano rang clear, trembling between accusation and disbelief.Anika slid off her perch with measured grace, stepping closer, ev
