Chapter 4

Author: Jane
Late at night, the torches were lit, making the area around Spirit Fall as bright as day.

Somehow, I still came—following behind Darcy. But it didn’t matter anymore. When I realized I was truly leaving him for good, a strange sense of relief surged through my heart.

The moment he arrived, he became the center of the entire Hunting Competition. He-wolves flattered him, and she-wolves flirted shamelessly.

Brigitte, his new lover, naturally tried to keep her competitors at bay. Unfortunately for her, it was impossible to fend off so many beautiful she-wolves throwing themselves at Darcy.

To his credit, Darcy had one virtue—though he changed new mates frequently, he was loyal during each fleeting bond.

Strangely, that night he didn't turn down a single she-wolf's advances, making Brigitte look utterly humiliated. It seemed he had already grown tired of her—breaking his own record. The shortest bond he'd had until now was half a month.

I looked down at the water hole—deep, dark, and unsettling. A sense of unease twisted in my stomach.

"Darcy, I really like you."

While every werewolf reveled in the competition, Brigitte chose that moment to confess publicly, her cheeks flushed red.

Clearly, Darcy had given her the illusion that he returned her feelings.

This scene had played out too many times before, just with different she-wolves.

Brigitte thought herself unique—but she was just another page in his well-worn script.

I didn’t expect Darcy to give her up so soon, thinking I could leave him without any regrets—but I still couldn’t walk away. The scene wasn’t over yet.

I took a sip of red wine and, like the others, waited for what would come next.

"You like me?" Darcy chuckled, adding a seductive charm to that noble, unrestrained face.

Suddenly, memories stirred inside me. Even though I had only drunk a little, I felt tipsy—drunk on the past.

Under everyone's watchful gaze, Darcy slowly stood, took off his wolf-tooth necklace, and casually tossed it into the deep water hole.

I froze, stunned.

That necklace was worth a thousand gold coins. I'd heard his mother had given it to him, and he had worn it for years. And now he just threw it away?

"Brigitte, that necklace is one of my most treasured possessions. If you jump into the water and retrieve it, I'll make you my Luna. What do you say?"

Brigitte's smile stiffened. She didn't speak for a long time.

It was late. The cliff was high. Jumping into that water hole could easily be fatal.

Watching it all unfold, I felt oddly relieved.

I should have realized sooner. A future Alpha King like Darcy would never truly claim any she-wolf. No one was an exception—not even Brigitte, and certainly not me. But fortunately, my heart would never be shattered by him again.

"Whoever does it, I'll make her my Luna!"

The she-wolves who had been fawning over him earlier exchanged nervous glances. None of them had expected this madness.

Becoming Darcy's Luna—joining the prestigious Lemche clan—was a dream. But you had to survive first.

Only I knew the truth. He wasn't mad. He was spoiled—used to getting everything he wanted. And now, he was simply playing with lives.

Tonight, he was in a foul mood, which led to this cruel spectacle. When no one stepped forward, I assumed the farce would end.

Just as I stood there compliantly, grateful to the Moon Goddess for blessing me to stay out of it, I suddenly heard someone call my name.

"Ginger. She'll do it."

A wicked voice sliced through the silence, calling my name and stirring unrest among the crowd.

More voices joined in.

"Where's Ginger? She loves Darcy more than anyone. She'd definitely jump in for him."

"Exactly! I can't believe I didn't think of her. She won't miss this chance."

I wanted to scream at them all, but what was the point? They didn’t know my love for him had already died.

I had gotten used to flattering Darcy over the years and usually let things slide. But right now? It wasn’t death I feared—I just couldn’t bring myself to die for someone who never deserved my love.

Someone pointed me out in the crowd. All eyes turned to me.

Darcy saw me and slowly approached.

The night wind was cold, and he wore that familiar, gentle smile.

He howled, "Ginger, will you seize your chance to become my Luna?"

I thought Darcy Lemche wouldn’t come to see me again. After all, he was such a proud, high and mighty werewolf who was interested in me on impulse. With so many beautiful she-wolves round him, I was afraid I was long forgotten. But one day, when I was on my way to my small den, I was taken aback by him. He was drunk and pressed my arms against the cold old oak tree: “Ginger, I cannot lose you! Last time in the rogue attack, I really didn’t touch that she-wolf. If you don’t believe me, I will take her in front of you and ask her to confront me.”He thought I rejected him because he had broken his promise.I pushed him aside and clarified, “Darcy Lemche, my rejecting you has nothing to do with her.”“Ginger!” After I turned around, Darcy Lemche viciously called out to me, “You are a social climber, and I have accepted it. I will let you be a hanger-on for a lifetime! Let’s hold bonding ceremony! You’ll be my Luna for ever. Please, don’t reject me. Please! Please!” His wolf sound trembled

Then, it was like a dream. My father’s company went bankrupt within a few days. The Lemche Clan sent their best team of werewolf lawyers to help me collect evidence and prove two murders: one was the death of my mother—my father had killed his mate and bribed a dying rogue to cover it up. He used all the compensation he received from the pack to start his business. The other was the death of Darcy Perkins. He had discovered something suspicious about my mother’s death and started a secret investigation. Unfortunately, my father found out and used the same brutal method again. An outstanding young man was brutally murdered in the prime of his life. Of course, my stepmother was an accomplice.Being powerful is truly advantageous. The truth that was once far beyond my reach was finally revealed. To Darcy Lemche, it was a piece of cake. At the end of the trial, Brigitte came to me and begged for mercy. “Ginger, no matter how bad your father is, he’s still your father. Are you planning to k

I roared in the rain, “Why? Why would a good mate and father violate a teenage wolf younger than his own offspring? Why did my own father abandon me?” For almost a year, I had nothing to eat and nowhere to go. During the day, I wandered the streets searching for food—sometimes finding leftovers from fancy restaurants, other times facing pups who recognized me and threw stones. Most of the time, I was starving. At night, I slept in a cold cave, waking almost every morning to the painful sound of my own stomach. Day after day, night after night, I grew tired and desperate, wishing to end my miserable life. Then, he appeared—my savior, my Darcy Perkins. In my tragic young life, he was the only light. Darcy was an orphan adopted by my grandparents after my mother left them for my father. Due to distance and my mother’s reluctance to contact them, they didn’t know what had happened. Later, they died from a plague in the pack. Darcy came to my pack searching for my mother and finally learned

I had thought I knew Darcy very well. It seemed impossible for him to keep his chastity for half a year—he changed mating partners as often as he changed his clothes. Half a year was short, but for some Alphas like him, it was a long time. Unexpectedly, he really intended to keep his word. A month passed in the blink of an eye, and there were no other she-wolves around him. This was shocking. What’s more, his friends’ attitudes towards me gradually became more respectful. One time, I accompanied him to a private werewolf gathering. During the party, I went to the bathroom, and when I came back, I overheard his Beta asking, “Darcy, did you fall in love with Ginger?” Every werewolf present was eagerly waiting for his answer, including me. He replied casually with a hint of satisfaction, “Fall in love? I’m just tired of playing around and want to take a break for a while. Ginger, this social climber, dared to risk her life to stay by my side. I was really touched.” Just a little touched.

“Ginger, you lunatic!” As I was falling, I heard his uncontrollable roar.It must have been an illusion. How could Darcy, heir to the Alpha King, lose control over a mere social climber like me?I fell—straight into the water.Water splashed in all directions. It was freezing cold. Then I blacked out.I thought I would die and finally find the long-awaited liberation. But I didn’t. I was still alive. When I woke up, I saw Darcy asleep, leaning back on the sofa near my bed.I was enamored by his sleeping face—it looked absolutely stunning. Darcy Lemche looked his most peaceful when he was asleep.Unfortunately, he soon woke up, glared at me, and roared, “Ginger, have you lost your fucking mind?”“Yeah, I did. I lost my mind. I’m sick.” I nodded, reaching out my hand to him. “I’m seriously sick. Darcy, are you willing to be my herb?”He frowned, then bent down and brought his face closer to mine. You see, that’s how habits form, even if I’m just tagging along.“Darcy, I jumped into the w

  • The Runaway Luna   Chapter 5

The moment I heard his voice, I knew I was done this time. I wasn’t that foolish she-wolf who would die for him anymore—but before I could even think of how to refuse him, his voice echoed again.Darcy squinted, as if trying to read my mind. "Jump down! If you survive, I'll make you my Luna.""Darcy, I... you know I can't swim."I was surprised by how quickly I responded. Darcy definitely knew the truth—that I couldn’t swim. It was a perfectly reasonable excuse: I had simply forgotten I couldn’t."I know," he said, smirking. "So I'll raise the bet. If you become my Luna, you'll never be replaced. No matter how many she-wolves I mate with, you can always stay by my side."There was a time when I would’ve died for the chance to stay by his side. But that version of me is gone—I don’t love him anymore. Jumping into that pool meant death—and I wouldn’t risk my life again just to be fooled by him."Ginger, from the moment I met you, I knew you were a hanger-on."Seeing my hesitation, Darcy'
