The limo continued to drive until they reached a seven-star hotel. The children’s eyes reflected the neon lights and the glare of the shine. This was the hotel under Colton Industries, but it belonged to the faction handled by the eldest son. This was also the place where the sick father was checked in for the weekend.
“Mr. Colton, welcome to Rosa Bianca. I am Jen. Please follow me to your room.” The usherette picked them up after the limousine parked. She had a keycard for the express elevator to the VIP floors. “Your father is expecting you in the restaurant later at eight-thirty.”
“Sure, we’ll be there.” Wolfram was used to this usherette. She was the one always assigned to Wolfram. After all, she knew well that this man wasn’t one to speak a lot.
It’s just that she noticed that Wolfram arrived with a beautiful mother of two. The children were at least seven years old, and considering Wolfram’s age, they could indeed be his children. Could it be that… this third son married this woman in a flash because she was a college fling he had children with? Yes, that should be the most plausible assumption.
Delta and Wolfram didn’t care about the inner thoughts of the usherette. They were already all right since she was unnecessarily talkative. She only knew to speak when Wolfram asked her about the food and his father. However, the two kids were more focused on her than on the view outside the elevator.
“Big Sister, what’s an… on-tray?” Eine was the one to ask. Foxley would curl inward in front of strangers. That was why it was strange that he was more talkative than Eine when it came to Wolfram.
“An entrée is the main course, the star of the meal. It’s your lobster or steak or whichever you picked from our menu.” The usherette was not fazed. After all, they were only kids. She would be surprised if they were already sophisticated enough to care about dinner service. “Due to differences in languages, however, it doesn’t mean the same in other countries.”
Eine and Foxley exchanged gazes, and then the girl asked again, “Can we have ice cream after that? Mommy gives us ice cream after dinner sometimes.”
The usherette would glance at the woman, but she knew how nouveau-riche women took glances like that. She just nodded at the kids. “After eating the entrée, we can serve you a dessert of your choosing. You can have ice cream, but you might find something new and tastier on our menu.”
“Oh, I know desserts!” Eine gasped as she heard a familiar term. She then asked more about cheesecakes and other things. Unfortunately, the usherette only knew the bestsellers as they were recommendations.
Instead of getting upset, the two kids only grew excited about the so-called menu. They even started talking to the usherette about the proper etiquette. After all, they wanted their grandfather to like them. When they called Mr. Colton senior ‘grandfather,’ the usherette’s assumption became more plausible. The three voices continued talking as they trod to the VIP suite.
Wolfram was walking next to Delta at the back of the group. He then moved his head to whisper to the mother. “I have a feeling she really thinks they’re mine. Won’t you get offended? What about the real father? I’ve never seen your fans running after you for a long time.”
“…their father will mind, but I’d rather have people believe such an assumption. I don’t want any of them to be attributed to him.” Delta lowered her eyes, only for her to look up ahead since Eine and Foxley ran to the door. “Will you help me keep it that way?”
“To the public, but I’d rather have my father know the truth. He’s more protective than me when it came to children. Yuri has no kids yet, while Zenon only has a bitch princess for a daughter. He will protect them if he grew fond of them.”
“Bitch princess?” Delta looked at Wolfram, who only had his eyes up front. “Would you call me that?”
Wolfram glanced at her. “Are you kidding me? You’re not a bitch—you’re a cannibal. I had to deal with that bite on my own, you know. Do you really think I’m so delicious?”
“How could you be so lewd, Wolfie?” Delta chuckled after the whisper, earning a frown from the man.
“I did not—”
Eine and Foxley ran back to them—to Wolfram. They started beaming and telling him about the beautiful room. However, since they spoke over each other, Wolfram barely understood what they were saying. The twins didn’t care and only stared expectantly at him.
Delta walked ahead of them. She then giggled. “Why don’t you just tell him what you mean? Come along. We have to be ready when you meet your grandpa.”
“Come on!” Eine and Foxley dragged Wolfram inside the suite, careful enough not to hit Delta.
The mother looked at the usherette and smiled her kindest. “Thank you for humoring them all the way here. If I can pass on a tip, I will do it. Also, we will take a few minutes to settle down first before meeting Dad. Thank you again.”
The usherette nodded. “It’s my pleasure to be of your service, Mrs. Colton. If you need me, you can ask the lobby receptionist for me. I will come to you as soon as I can.”
Delta watched the woman leave the hallway before she walked inside. She then smiled at the well-behaved children, who only rested on the couches. Wolfram was checking the city view behind the curtains. However, he still went to join Foxley to see what he was watching this time. Eine was surfing the channels instead, hoping to catch a cooking show while waiting.
…
Wolfram led the ‘family’ to the private room, arriving at the door with only three minutes more before the time of the dinner. At this time, he was so sure that his father had already had appetizers served. He just didn’t realize that when he arrived, his father was not there yet. There sat the other three horsemen of the apocalypse instead.
“Oh, it’s Wolfram. I’m surprised you even appeared without running late this time.” One of the women smiled at him, but it was not the friendliest. She even looked like Wolfram ran over her dog.
“Will I ever do something that you won’t comment on?” Wolfram snorted before leading the two kids inside. He figured Delta would move inside on her own. However, the woman didn’t step in.
The woman, who spoke first, stared straight at Delta’s envious figure. The fact that Delta stared back at her made her pissed off some more. “What are you looking at?”
Delta then smiled mercilessly as she moved toward her seat next to Eine. “Sorry, I was just curious. Wolfram said we are meeting his family, but… he didn’t mention anything about his auntie.”
The third brother stared at the others. His eldest brother, Yuri, came alone. His wife was too busy with her business affairs that she chose a business trip over this dinner. He appeared to be the most elegant and eloquent among them, and yet his veiny hands knew more hard work than all. On his face were a pair of thin glasses and their mother’s tall nose no one else inherited.Three chairs away was the second brother, Zenon. He arrived with his vain wife, even constantly retouching her makeup to appear the best. However, if one looked closer at her head, her blonde hair was nothing but dyed. As for him, he was also dyeing his hair. After all, he was too young to sport silver hair—one attributed to Yuri.Next to them was a young girl with a princess crown. She was so grumpy she was grumbling under her breath and sliding down her seat. However, when
The blonde woman snorted. “She’s not even sure about staying with him. Are you so desperate to marry you picked up a random woman, Wolfram?”“…” Wolfram continued to stay quiet. His gaze was not even stuck on anyone in particular.“Why do you always try to get my husband’s attention?” Delta turned to the woman. “Are you hoping to find someone more miserable than you? Leave him alone. You want him to come early, but this is all he hears. Perhaps he has good reasons to skip seeing you.”The woman lifted her brow. “And you behave like you’ll be here the next time we gather. Look here, pretty face. You’re not going to be Wolfram’s wife for so long. Women like you are like single-use table napkins—just good for one use and th
“Life had been quite hard for me when the father of my children kept on leaving us for his work.” Delta prepared a story for everyone to hear. “It came to a point where I started incurring debts. However, I ran into Wolfram, and something instantly clicked between the two of us. Since there were no troubles, we decided to get married.”Delta looked up at the father, hoping he wouldn’t make things difficult for her. “It wasn’t long before the new building was inaugurated and opened.”Trisha decided to interfere again. “No troubles? So, you have children with a man that was not married to you in any way? Kept on leaving you for work? Maybe you’re just stalking him in hopes to get his attention and make him responsible for your kids.”She then turned to
“You want to gamble with my seat on the board, Yuri?” Zenon hissed at his older brother. “Who gave you the right to award my spot to just some random woman Wolfram found on the streets?”Yuri didn’t drop his smile as he shook his head. “Zenon, you have been part of the board since you received the Rhea Faction. Your scores are beyond impressive in the first few years, but you’re clearly lagging. On the tenth-year mark of your acquisition, I only want to see Rhea hit 90%, just as any other member of the factions.“Since you continue to fail to improve, I merely gave you a nudge.” Yuri’s smile grew tamer. “Your household expenses kept on rising because of your daughter and your wife. You might as well contribute bigger. At least, take solace in the fact that I didn’t go through firing you as the President of Rhea.”“You’re really discussing things like this in front of strangers?” Janelle whispered as she glanced at Delta. At least, that other woman decided to be Wolfram’s wife. When sh
Delta’s eyes flickered. Wolfram drew an unbearable picture of Regina—the supposed bitch-princess daughter of his second-eldest brother. However, she clearly looked like a rather unfavored child. Could this child be the way she was because tantrums and screams attract the attention of her parents more?Came with this thought was a look she gave Wolfram. However, the man gave a head shake. Don’t be fooled, he implied. Delta then looked at the girl sitting on the twin’s bed, joining them in looking at the two adults. Everyone was waiting for Zenon to pick up his phone. The woman then turned to Wolfram. “Maybe he blocked you already? How come he’s not answering? If they had to fly somewhere, the operator would say something else.”“He just didn’t want to answer my call. Why would he after what happened earlier?” Wolfram finally stopped trying. The light in the eyes of the children grew duller by the second. He just dialed Yuri’s number, hoping to just pass the message.[“Did you run into
“Safer?” Delta echoed softly, but she figured it was a talk for later. She just turned to find Foxley and got him to stop plastering his face against the glass wall.Wolfram squatted down to see how it looked from Foxley’s eye level. He couldn’t even see the price as if it was not something a child should see. He then turned to Foxley, whose cheeks were being wiped clean by his mother. After all, he pressed his face against something other children must have pressed their faces as well.Foxley then hugged Wolfram’s leg. “Wolfie, will you buy it for me? Let’s play on it together. I already know a lot of games we can play together!”“Sure, but you have to be extra well-behaved to your mom. If you misbehave, she will take it away.” Wolfram laughed, patting the head of the obedient child. He then got to his feet. “Let’s go inside. Maybe you can find more games for it.”“Okay!” Foxley went to hold Wolfram’s hand instead. “Help me read instructions, too. I can’t read all words yet. Mommy sa
Delta knew that this would happen sooner or later. After all, the news about her supposed marriage to Wolfram Colton had already spread far and wide. There was no way this man had not heard of it. He just had to see it for himself.“Die here? Is this how much you look down on me now, Delta?” Brandon chuckled in his deep voice. He then turned to face her, even standing before her. With a rather intimidating aura, he reached over to crush his cigar against the sink close to Delta’s arm. “Just because they intercepted Carolus, it doesn’t mean they are formidable enough to stand against me.”“Brandon, leave me alone. Eine and Foxley remain with me, and—” Delta would say something more, but her face was grabbed by the man.Brandon pulled on his lips to smile. “Delta, Delta… I should have said things clearer. I only want you back. Do you really think I care so much about your children? You’re a woman; I’ll just let you make as much as them if you like. As for those two outside, they’re bett
The man was speaking to another person, but he quickly ignored the other person when he caught sight of the disheveled Delta. He even walked toward her. “Delta! Are you all right?”“Mommy, they’re so scary!” Eine cried, and Delta got down to the floor to hug her. This daughter sobbed like this when her mother finally found her that time. Delta also pulled Foxley close for a hug. She thought the twins were shaken, but it seemed Foxley was not even affected.“Wolfie, you were so cool!” The boy was watching from the table. His sister was hugging him by then, but he didn’t cower in fear with her. “You were like a secret agent!”Wolfram also kneeled when Delta fell. He was ready to console the three, only to be taken aback by that boy. The ninja wasn’t even scared to watch such a very violent scene. He reached out to pat Foxley’s head. “We’re called ‘secret’ agents for a reason. Erm, don’t be like this. Console your sister and your mother, Foxley. Are you not terrified of the guns?”“I am,
