Chapter 3 - The Engagement

"Cortez and the Kingsville? This is something unheard of!" one of the woman in the cafe covered her mouth because of excitement, "This will be the wedding of a decade!"

"Definitely!"

"Our school queen bee is finally making a come back after all those years," they said and now most of the ladies are expecting that they will have the marriage on the next full moon.

The next full moon. That's exactly a month from now.

"There she is!" and she walks like a queen that she is. She was so devastated and embarrassed from what happened years ago that she didn't even faced the elites social parties.

"Thank you," she said to the waiter and sat on the front seat. The party is held by Alpha Albert of White Blood Pack. 

There are currently four great pack in the werewolves. Since there is a decline of the population due to rising technologies of humans, it was getting hard to live day by day. But they were able to survive thanks to the rules that they've set up all these years.

"What the hell is his problem?"

Since Zachary did not like going to social parties like this one, they didn't expect him to come even if it is his responsibilities. TO think that he'll come at his ex-fiancee party.

"Why, aren't he and that woman together?" Amara clenched her fist. She was still uncomfortable seeing him. If things goes well back then, this thing wouldn't even need to happen.

They will be happily married and probably have kids by now...

"Amara? Are you okay?" Lucas asked her and smiled at her. He had this smile that will make you smile too even if things aren't going right. He is handsome too. 

"Yes, I am," she looked down, " I'm sorry I'm spacing out,"

"Is it because of him?" he asked and she smiled at him.

"No, it just all happened too fast," she said and massage her forehead. "I'll be going first."

"I'll take you home---" he was cut off when she signed him to stop.

"No, I... want to be alone,"

"Oh, alright. Text me when you're home." he said and smiled at her. 

"Okay," the night was cold, and even though she was there for show, her first social party after years, she was so drained of being asked what her life has been. 

She goes home straightly, thinking that her coming back as the main news will die down after few days.

"Ma'am, you have a visitor," her housekeeper told her and her forehead knotted.

"Who? We didn't tell anyone besides family members that I would be here," she walked down slowly on the grand staircase. 

Amara is a tall woman. Her long curly hair compliment her body curve. Beauty and brains, and wealth, you name it, she had it.

All of that had changed when she fell in love with Zach. He saved her when they are still teenager and thought that he is her hero.

Even after knowing that he had a lover, she did everything within her power to keep him to herself.

"It was Master Zachary," and bowed to her. As if blood has been drained from her body, she didn't know if she is being bluffed or what.

"What?" Amara could not believe it. He never even bat an eye to her then, nor even visit her in the house unless it was required. "Tell him I'm not here and still in abroad!"

"B-But!"

"It was futile, Amara," he said and then her attention was pointed in him sitting on the sofa while drinking tea. "It's been a while."

"What the hell are you doing here!" she looked at her housekeeper, "Why did you let him in?!" she shouted and then looked at him.

"Let's talk."

"I don't want to talk to you," and looked at the housekeeper again who is torn between them, "Please escort him out." and was about to go back to her room when he called her.

"Amara."

Her chest tightened at the way he called her. Those used to be such an angelic music for her but not now.

"Don't call my name as you pleased, Mr. Ashford!" she said, "We are not close."

He signalled the housekeeper to go and they were left alone.

"Get out of my house now!" she said and felt the blood rising from her head because of that. She glared at him and he definitely is enjoying it. He looked cold and ruthless, but his eyes says otherwise as he looked at her.

He looked up at her because she stillin the middle. 

"What do you think you're doing? Guards? Guards!" she tried calling them out but no one is answering her right now. 

"No matter how much you called, there is no one going to answer you." he smirked at her and handed her the title of the house.

"You're the one who bought our house?!" she asked in disbelief. Her eyes bore in him as she clenched her fist and her eyes bore on his face.

"Let's talk." he said but then she throw the title of the land in the floor and slapped him.

"Oh, that felt good," she said with a very angry face, "There is nothing for us to talk about." 

When the door suddenly opened and her step mom entered.

"Amara!" and she had glared at Zach. "What are you doing here, Zachary?" she asked and he remained silent with his cold demeanor.

When she noticed that he had no intention of answering her, she sighed deeply.

"Please leave now."

Amara thought that he wouldn't leave. But he did. She felt something had pinch her heart.

"Amara, are you okay?" my mother asked and I didn't expect him to come straightforwadly. 

"Yes, mom, you arrived on time," she smiled at her.

Amara come back to her room and stared at the ceiling. She touched her chest. It was pounding.

"He looked more handsome now..." she whispered, "And had matured too."

And then their grim past started lingering in her mind until she fall asleep.

"Move fast!" one whispered and Amara couldn't open her eyes. There are words of men that she didn't know. There are also sounds coming from helicopter.

I must be dreaming things.

She told herself. She was exhausted from a long journey from abroad. To think that their engagement was announced yesterday, and they will have a proper party later.

"Make sure not even a single scratch will happen to her or else, you'll all be killed!"

"What...?" she whispered and opened her eyes. And the familiar assistant has welcomed her eyes. "Adrian?" she asked.

"T-This is a mistake!"

It was rare for him to stutter. Unless, he was caught doing something.

"Where am I? Oh my goodness, are we in the sky?" Amara was confused and looked at below.

"Please don't move too much, milady---" she slapped his hands.

"Where are you taking me, huh?! I'm suing you for this!" She said and grunted, "Get me the fuck out!" she gritted her teeth and threaten them that she is going to open the door if they keep her there. 

Hardheaded and stubbon.

But that didn't happen and she was injected with sleeping dose that makes her asleep. Adrian never wanted to resort to that but he needed to take her safe and sound to his master.
