“Stabilized.” Grace whispered, like she didn’t dare believe it.

“Well, thank the heavens he is,” I said flatly, snapping off my gloves. “If he wasn’t, I wouldn’t be standing here.”

They all exhaled at once, some of them sighing in relief as we rounded up.

I stripped off my gown and mask, tossing them into the bin.

My jaw clenched, because as much as I wanted to walk straight out of here and pretend none of this mattered, I couldn’t get her voice out of my head.

Where is she? Right. Grace said she was upstairs so she was most likely meeting her mom and dad. That was their ward section as well.

Please, Vale. Please.

Damn her.

I left the lab, ignoring the nurses who tried to thank me.

My boots echoed down the hall. When I pushed the door open to the waiting room, tthe silence hit me like a wall.

They were all there, Torren, stiff backed and brooding, Saela with her blotchy face and swollen eyes like she had been crying, Kael standing like he owned the room.
