Chapter 2 Their Weird Reactions

Author: Perfect Timing
I was reminded of their reaction after seeing my result in my past life, and I shuddered. The result was simply too conspicuous. If they knew my real score, I would repeat my misfortune.

I couldn't just twiddle my thumbs, so I told my mother I was unwell, and she left.

Quickly, I called my best friend. "Have you checked your results, Gianna?"

"I scored 1,100. Your lessons helped a lot. My mother promised me some funds in the near future. We can go on a trip together!"

My best friend's kindness filled me with warmth. Even if the whole world was against me, she was the one I could trust. I said, "My computer's busted. Can you check my results real quick?"

Gianna said yes immediately, so I gave her my login credentials.

"I got it." Then, she said coldly, "We're done. I don't have a friend like you."

I was stunned. I couldn't understand why she changed so abruptly. We'd known each other for five years and were closer than any sisters could be. Why would she cut ties with me over my results?

I kept asking why, and she cursed, "You should go to hell, you bitch!"

That was the exact reaction my parents had in my past life, and I was thunderstruck. Fear filled my heart. Why was everyone reacting so violently after they saw my results?

Sweat drenched my back. Gianna wouldn't stop cursing, but I couldn't understand what I did wrong.

"I hope you die, Yvonne!" She hung up on me.

I tried my best to stop my trembling body, to tell myself to calm down. I wondered if my parents were in on it with Gianna, and if they'd go mad once they saw my results.

I still couldn't wrap my head around this, so I hired a private investigator and asked him to find out if my parents and Gianna had been talking lately. The answer was no.

Then, I wondered if I didn't actually score 1,580 points. I wiped the sweat off my forehead, and I trembled as I asked the private investigator to check my results.

When he pressed the last button, I was prepared for him to flip out, but he didn't. Instead, he sounded happy.

"Whoa, you scored 1,580 points. You'd be able to get into Clearnorth University with no trouble at all. I wish my sister had your grades. I wouldn't have to worry about her studies all the time."

I froze before asking him to check again.

If that was the case, why would my parents flip out on me and disown me? They would've been overjoyed and gotten me a Porsche. Gianna wouldn't cut me off over this. She would've been happily organizing a party for me!

I wondered where it went wrong.

That line spooked Sylvia, and she nearly ran. "G-Ghost! Arrest her! She's possessed!"The cops kept her pinned down.Michael Gray, my father, did not look happy at all. The fact his wife got spooked meant she was guilty. Even so, he kept up his act and spoke to me. "You animal! You're making up a story just to abandon us! You might scare your timid mother, but you can't scare me!"Again, I ignored his rage and looked at the cops. "Pull up the case file from ten years ago and compare the fingerprints and DNA. You'll get your answer."The cops' leader mused. "Take these two in for investigation, and take the girl to the hospital. Once she's healed, take her to the precinct for assistance.""Yes, sir!"I ignored the murderers' curses and hopped into a car. Then, I was taken to the hospital. I felt no relief from surviving that ordeal. All I had was hatred for those demons. If I hadn't been reborn, I'd never have remembered that they weren't my parents, and I wouldn't have remembered

The cops were shocked and confused. My parents' eyes were filled with horror, but it was soon replaced by rage."You ungrateful girl! We raised you, and you're abandoning us?""Let me go, officer! I'll teach this bastard a lesson!"I ignored their fury and looked at the cops. "I have a story to tell."Ten years ago, there lived a happy family. The father was a businessman, while the mother was a homemaker. Their eldest daughter was a valedictorian and had the best chances of attending Clearnorth University among her cohort. She didn't let them down. That girl scored 1,580 during the SATs, and the school made it a point to spread her name. The news reached the ears of another young couple. At first, they were jealous of that girl's academic brilliance, while they couldn't even attend school because they were from the boonies. Then they found out the girl came from an excellent family and could've lived well even without her grades. Blinded by greed, the couple followed that girl h

The cops put some thought into my statement. They weren't expecting me to figure out my parents' thoughts that smoothly. One of them asked, "What results?"I pulled up a snapshot of my SAT results. The cops were calm about it, and they didn't flip out."I studied hard for three years because my parents gave me everything. This is the fruit of my labor, and I didn't cheat! But when they saw what I achieved, instead of being excited or happy like regular parents, they started abusing me."My parents weren't looking happy at all. There was panic in their eyes. I had a feeling my guess was the truth. It was just a result, yet calling their response overreacting was an understatement. No matter what it was, there was no reason for them to attack their own daughter.I finally had a chance to get out of this mess, but this was another question I had to solve, yet no answer came. The cops were obviously trying to process the information. Grades were just that: numbers. Why would it drive

The fog in my mind lifted right away. Driven by my urge to survive, I begged for my father's mercy."I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I'll give up on my results! I'll repeat my year! I'll get the result you want, then attend college!"If they kept dragging me, I'd end up in an even worse state than I was in my previous life. There was no way I'd give up before everything was settled. My instinct to survive granted me a surge of strength. I pulled away from my father's grasp and ran as fast as my legs could take me, then I asked a passerby for help. "Please call the cops. I don't want to die!"My mother's expression darkened for a moment, but she put on a smile and hurried over. "She's broken our heart. We give her everything, but she still doesn't care about us. We had no other choice."That was a vague reason, but my mother couldn't come up with a believable slander right there and then. The passerby looked confused. I looked at her with a silent plea in my eyes, hoping she wouldn't trust m

Though I was in a daze, I somehow got home. The first thing I saw was my mother's smile, but then my phone rang abruptly. "Hi, this is Clearnorth University's admissions office. Are you Yvonne Gray, the one who scored 1,580 in the SATs?"My face went white, and I hung up before my mother could hear it. She was about to ask me who it was, but her phone rang too. After she took it, her face fell. Fear filled my heart. All of a sudden, I remembered that I named her as my emergency contact when I was filling the form for the SATs.She slapped me before I could say anything. "You bitch! How dare you lie to us about your grades!"The world went black for a moment, and my ears rang. I tasted metal in my mouth. My mind replayed the moment I rolled down the stairs to my death during my past life, and I pleaded, "I'm sorry! I scored really high, but why aren't you happy? What did I do?"That didn't calm her down. Instead, it agitated her, and she grabbed the vase beside her. She swung it d

  • The Score That Got Me Killed   Chapter 3 Her Questions

I tried hiding my fear and confusion. Just then, my homeroom texted the class. "Students, please get your application guide at the school. There'll be teachers helping you with the application. If you're too anxious to check your results, we have some help on standby as well."I fell into silent mulling. My parents and best friend flipped out on me because of my grades. I wondered if my classmates would be the same, so I hurried to the school. They were sharing their grades, but I stayed silent. The class president noticed I wasn't joining in. They kindly gave me a piece of candy. "Feeling anxious? It's alright. You've always been a decent scorer. You wouldn't flunk the SATs."Yeah, we were just classmates. There was no conflict of interest between us. They wouldn't flip out on me over a grade. But when I took my phone out and showed them the picture of my grades, their faces fell."I can't believe we were classmates with someone like you!"I froze. The class president shoved me o
