Chapter 3

ผู้เขียน: Snail
Ethan and Lyla leaned close to each other. They whispered as they slowly walked away.

They didn’t notice me hiding behind the car. They were completely absorbed in the joy of having just received their mate certificate.

Leaning against the car, I slowly slid to the ground. My hands rested on my lower abdomen as tears streamed down my face.

'It's time to leave, isn't it?' I thought to myself.

At that moment, a phone number appeared in my mind. It was one I had memorized so well over the years.

I’d repeated it to myself hundreds of times but never had the courage to actually dial it.

Today, with trembling fingers, I finally dialed the number.

I thought it might ring endlessly and go unanswered, but it barely rang twice before someone picked up.

“Dad, I miss you so much!”

My tears trickled, and my voice cracked.

“Silly girl, do you know how long I’ve been waiting for this call?”

He sounded so much older. I didn’t need to see him to know he'd worried for me all these years.

“Dad, I know I was wrong. I want to come home.”

I heard a loud thud on the other end like something heavy being knocked over.

“Are you serious? You’re really coming back to take your rightful place in the pack? I’ll send my second-in-command to bring you back right away!”

His voice trembled with excitement. Although he tried to stay calm, his quickened breathing gave him away.

“Come get me tomorrow. I need to sort some things out first," I said quietly but firmly.

By the time I got back to the villa, it was already late at night. One of the servants had left a light on for me.

Exhausted, I collapsed onto the couch and looked around the dimly lit room, where the walls were covered in photos of Ethan and me.

My heart felt like it was being crushed under a heavy boulder. Every beat brought a sharp, stabbing pain.

I forced myself to stand up and began taking down every photo. I tore them apart one by one and threw them in the trash.

It was already past midnight when Ethan called.

“Maddie, happy anniversary! It’s our fifth year together today. I still love you just as much as I did in the beginning–”

I continued tearing up our photos while listening to him.

He talked on for a while without getting a response. His tone turned careful.

“Maddie, I’m sorry. Something came up with work and I can’t make it home today. But once it’s done, I promise I’ll make it up to you!”

“It’s fine. I don’t mind. Take care of your work first," I replied softly.

There was a pause on his end before he asked anxiously, “Maddie, are you really okay with this? I don’t know. Something feels off. Are you hiding something from me?”

I froze mid-motion.

“No, what could I possibly be hiding from you?”

No matter how I reassured him, Ethan insisted on video calling me.

I wiped my tears and accepted the request.

We video chatted for two full hours before he finally hung up. He was reluctant to say goodbye until the end.

Right before the call ended, he looked at me with deep affection and said, “I can’t make it back tomorrow, but I’ve prepared lots of surprises for you. I hope you'll like them! Maddie, I want to be with you forever. I want to spend every future anniversary with you!”

After the call ended, I whispered to myself, "Ethan, there is no future for us."

Thank goodness he wasn’t coming back. Otherwise, I wouldn’t even know what excuse to use to leave tomorrow.

I packed up everything that belonged to me. I threw away everything I couldn't take with me.

By the time I was done, the sky was already turning bright.

Today was our fifth marking anniversary.

It was also the day he and Lyla were holding their marking ceremony.

  • The Second Marking Ceremony   Chapter 9

Struggling desperately on the ground, Ethan tried to explain himself.“No, I'm your Alpha Female’s mate! Let me go!”He looked up with eyes full of pain and vulnerability.“Maddie, what do I have to do for you to forgive me?”I looked down at him with an indifferent expression.“I will never forgive you. From the moment you decided to wait for Lyla to graduate and then hold a marking ceremony with her, we were destined to end up like this.”This shattered him. He was dragged out of the hall.Under Charles' concerned gaze, I smiled calmly and stood before everyone to announce the severance of our ties with the Silver Moon pack.“From this day forward, the Dark Moon Pack will cut all ties with the Silver Moon Pack. There will be no more cooperation between us, ever.”The Silver Moon Pack was never as powerful as us. They had always been a lesser pack, surviving in part by relying on us.The news shocked the Silver Moon Pack. When Hector found out, he beat Ethan mercilessly.“

My succession ceremony was right on schedule.Ethan hadn’t originally planned to attend, but he suddenly recalled that he first met me in the Dark Moon Pack.At such a grand occasion, he thought maybe he’d see me again. He could at least try to find out something about me.So, despite his physical discomfort, he forced himself to come to the Dark Moon Pack.Ken accompanied him, chatting enthusiastically along the way.“I heard the new Alpha Female of the Dark Moon Pack is stunning! And she doesn’t have a mate. Alphas from all over are lining up to court her.“Oh, and rumor has it she even has a son! But she’s supposed to be unmated, right? Isn’t that strange?”Ethan cut him off impatiently.“I have no interest in the Alpha Female of the Dark Moon Pack. Your job is to help me find Madeline. I don’t need updates on anyone else.”Ken opened his mouth but said nothing. He had been meaning to mention that the new Alpha Female’s name was also Madeline, but maybe it was just a coinc

News of the leadership change in the Dark Moon Pack spread like wildfire throughout the werewolf kingdom.“I heard the new Alpha is a woman. She's the only daughter of the Alpha King.”“Apparently, the succession ceremony is going to be huge. Alphas from all the major packs have been invited.”Ethan didn’t care about any of the gossip from other packs. All he could think about was finding me.He knew nothing about my background. All he remembered was how much my family had opposed us being together, and how I, without hesitation, left my home and followed him to the Silver Moon Pack.I had once told him, “Ethan, I’ve already cut ties with my father. You’re the only family I have now.”He believed it. He truly thought he was all I had. If that's the case, why did I vanish without a single trace after leaving him?Ethan clutched his head in agony.Ever since I left, he had been plagued by unbearable headaches, especially at night. It was a deep, soul-searing pain that kept him a

I was brought back to the Dark Moon Pack. Everything here felt so familiar.I'd once lived here for eighteen years. Everything looked exactly the same as when I left.Charles was already standing at the entrance of the villa, waiting to welcome me home.In the five years since I last saw him, more gray hair had grown. His face had aged significantly too.Seeing him like this broke my heart. My eyes welled up with tears again. He smiled and opened his arms wide.“Welcome home, my dear daughter.”I rushed into his embrace, choking back sobs as I apologized over and over.“I’m sorry, Dad. I’ve been such a disappointment. I made you worry so much.”Charles didn’t ask me how I had been all these years. Instead, he just looked at me carefully with a hopeful gleam in his eyes.“Now that you’re back, will you leave again?”I wiped my tears away and smiled at him.“No, I’m not leaving again. I’m staying in the Dark Moon Pack for good.”As I spoke, I gently touched my lower abdomen.

Clang! With a loud crash, Ethan knocked over the ceremonial stage. His eyes were bloodshot as he grabbed Ken by the collar and shouted furiously."Who took Maddie? What the hell happened?"The overwhelming force of an Alpha’s rage radiated from him, making everyone in the hall tremble with fear."I-I don’t know. They left the Silver Moon Pack right away and disappeared," Ken stammered. He was doing his best to stay composed under the pressure.Ethan shoved him aside and stormed out of the banquet hall."Ethan! The marking ceremony isn’t over yet–" Lyla called after him. Her face was pale as she went up against Ethan’s fury."The ceremony is over!"Ethan didn’t stop walking. He simply left those words behind. He jumped into his car and sped off, heading straight for his villa back in the Silver Moon Pack's territory. On the way back, he kept calling me, but every call went straight to voicemail. He realized my phone had already been turned off.A sense of panic like never bef

  • The Second Marking Ceremony   Chapter 4

At the break of dawn, a group of werewolves arrived outside the villa to set up for the celebration. They lined the pathway with 999 astral blooms. In the center of the path, countless moonstones were arranged in a circle. Inside the ring were luxury jewelry pieces, designer clothes, and handbags. At the very top sat a small music box. It was playing a love song sung by Ethan himself.None of that held my attention. My eyes were fixed on the breaking news notification flashing across my phone screen. The news was reporting on a grand, extravagant marking ceremony taking place in Razor Fang Pack. The stage was built with 9,999 astral blooms. Pink balloons floated in the air. Each string was tied to a sparkling gemstone. The scene was breathtaking and romantic beyond words. Ethan, dressed in a sleek suit, walked down the red carpet hand-in-hand with Lyla in her luxurious gown.Heads turned at the sight of the stunning couple and lavish venue. On the stage, Ethan lowered his hea
