Throughout the journey, Ajeng and Evan remained silent. It wasn't that they were used to chatting intimately before. No. It was just that the atmosphere in the car felt cold because of what Evan had said earlier.

Ajeng tried not to cry. She blinked her teary eyes repeatedly. Once again, she felt like a cheap woman. She had just gone along with it when Evan touched her, while he claimed he had simply made a mistake.

"I'm sorry," Evan said, breaking the silence.

Ajeng didn't answer. She hurriedly opened the car door so she could quickly meet Ella and ask her what she meant by asking her to come to her house.

"Ajeng, wait." Evan grabbed her arm, but Ajeng didn't turn around. "I... I'm sorry. I'm a normal man. It's been a long time since Ella..."

"Let's not talk about it anymore. I know I married you because of what," she interrupted.

Without waiting for Evan's reply, Ajeng left the man and hurried into Evan's house, which was much bigger than the one she lived in.

After this, Ajeng would find out why Ella had forced her to become Evan's second wife. It couldn't be just because of her illness. Ella seemed to have prepared everything carefully. There must be something that made her best friend make such an unreasonable decision.

"Ajeng! You're finally here!" Ella exclaimed from her wheelchair.

"Ella!" Ajeng half-ran towards Ella and hugged her tightly. She pulled away to look at Ella's face, which looked pale even though her lips were covered in lipstick.

"You guys haven't had breakfast yet, right? Let's have breakfast first. Eh, why are you wearing your work clothes?" Ella asked, raising her eyebrows.

"She has to go to work, or people will get suspicious," Evan replied, who was standing behind Ajeng.

"Suspicious about what?"

Ajeng's body immediately tensed up. Aunt Puspa, Ella's mother, who considered Ajeng like her own child, suddenly appeared in the living room. Ajeng suddenly felt like a thief who had been caught.

"Why are you so tense, Ajeng?" Aunt Puspa asked.

Her tongue immediately went dry. She secretly glanced at Ella for help. For some reason, Ajeng felt that at any moment Aunt Puspa could scold her for secretly marrying Evan.

"Yesterday, Ajeng skipped work because she took me to the hospital during lunch, Mom. If she doesn't show up again today, her boss will definitely be suspicious." Fortunately, Ella was willing to cooperate.

"Oh, I thought you secretly took something from your office or something," Aunt Puspa said.

Ajeng felt like she had been slapped by the words of the woman who was the same age as her mother. Even though the woman probably didn't mean anything by it, Ajeng felt offended. Once again, she felt like a thief.

"Let's have breakfast. Why are you waiting for us?" Evan turned Ella's wheelchair around and started pushing her.

"Hey, how did you guys get here together? How come you're in the same car as Ajeng? Where did you come from?"

This time, it was Evan who tensed up. Meanwhile, Ajeng swallowed hard. Why did they look like an adulterous couple instead of a married couple? She felt uneasy.

"Mom, I asked Evan to pick up Ajeng. I asked Ajeng to come here. So, of course, he had to pick her up," Ella replied.

Ajeng just followed them silently from behind. It turned out that being a mistress was not pleasant. Ajeng had to be mentally prepared at any time if someone accused her of being a home wrecker. And she was really not ready if the accusation came from Aunt Puspa.

They headed to the dining room while continuing to chatter, while Ajeng chose to sit silently in her chair as soon as they arrived.

"Jeng, why are you sitting there? Come here, next to Evan." Ella's loud words made everyone look at her.

Aunt Puspa frowned when Ajeng obeyed and sat to Evan's right, while Ella sat to his left. In her heart, she cursed her friend. She shouldn't have acted so conspicuously.

"Ajeng, get Evan his fried rice, will you? I can't stand up anymore," Ella said again.

Reluctantly, Ajeng had to comply. Remember, her purpose in marrying Evan was to serve that man and pay off her debt. Be patient, Ajeng.

It wasn't that she wasn't aware of Aunt Puspa's eagle-eyed gaze, which had been observing her movements as she served Evan. It was just that Ajeng was trying to put on a brave face so as not to look suspicious.

They ended up eating in silence. Ajeng herself was surprised to see that Ella already had a plate of fried rice in front of her, while the others had to take their own from a special container.

"Why do you seem so used to serving Evan?"

Cough! Cough!

Ajeng quickly drank a glass of water to calm her cough. Aunt Puspa's question was completely unexpected. How should she answer that question?!

Her hands began to tremble now. She was really afraid of being found out. Ajeng knew very well how Aunt Puspa behaved when she was angry.

"Mom, you're so nosy! Evan and I used to go on double dates with Ajeng and Dimas. Ajeng is my best friend, so it's normal," Ella replied.

Even a fool wouldn't believe Ella's words. What kind of wife would serve another woman's husband?

Ajeng pretended to focus on the fried rice on her plate again, until she accidentally saw a piece of shrimp behind the mound of rice. Her eyes widened.

Reflexively, she turned to Evan, whose neck was starting to turn red. Her hand stopped Evan's hand as he was about to spoon some fried rice into his mouth. This made Aunt Puspa look at their interaction again with a frown.

"Don't eat it! There's shrimp in the fried rice!" Ajeng shouted in panic.

Without realizing it, Ajeng turned Evan's face and touched his cheek. "Your face is starting to swell! Where's your medicine?"

Evan didn't answer. The man was starting to have trouble breathing.

"We're going to the hospital now. Come on!" Ajeng pulled Evan's hand and led him away from the dining room.

She was really panicking now. Evan was allergic to shrimp, and unfortunately, Ajeng didn't know where Evan kept his medicine. Rushing to Evan's car, Ajeng put the man in the passenger seat before running to the driver's side.

"Hang in there. I'll find the nearest hospital." Ajeng drove the car fast, especially when Evan started to look weak.

Fortunately, she arrived at the nearest hospital quickly and asked the medical team to immediately take Evan to the emergency room. Ajeng didn't even notice someone watching her from a distance.

That person began to approach, until finally standing in front of Ajeng, who was sitting in the waiting room.

"Ajeng? How are you?"

Ajeng hurriedly hung up the phone with trembling hands. "I'm dead. I'm dead. What if Siska knows it was me? I shouldn't have answered that call."It would be disastrous if all the employees found out that she was close to Evan. Her status as a widow was already terrible. Add to that the rumor that she was with Evan at the hospital. She could be labeled as a home wrecker."You're so stupid, Jeng! You shouldn't have answered that call," she grumbled.Besides, since when did a lowly employee like her suddenly find herself in the same place as the CEO of a multinational company? Logically speaking, it didn't make sense."Yes, you shouldn't have answered that call."Ajeng's body froze. She didn't even realize that she was still clutching Evan's cell phone tightly."You're used to reaching into men's pockets without permission, aren't you? How about it? You didn't touch anything wrong, right?"Suddenly, Ajeng felt annoyed. She turned around angrily and saw Evan smiling crookedly. Ajeng's ey

"I thought you were asleep," Ajeng said incredulously. She approached Evan, who already looked better. He was no longer having trouble breathing like before."You two fight like in soap operas. I'm embarrassed just hearing it." Evan snorted, looking dismissive."It's not my fault I slapped him. You heard what he said earlier," she said with an annoyed expression.Ajeng was prepared for Evan to mock her for having been Dimas's wife. Surely he wouldn't miss this opportunity. But to her surprise, Evan closed his eyes instead.Sighing deeply, Ajeng finally left the room to go to the pharmacy and administration section. She looked around anxiously. She didn't want to meet Dimas again. From a distance, Ajeng saw Dimas walking while hugging Ayu's waist. She couldn't deny that her heart still ached when she saw that sight.Of course Ayu could get pregnant. It was completely different from her, who would never be able to feel a baby growing inside her womb. While taking care of the administrat

  • The Second Wife    7. Unwanted Ex

Of all the people living in this city, why did Ajeng have to meet the person she least wanted to see right now? She stared at the man sitting casually next to her with a displeased expression. Her mood worsened. After suspecting Ella of deliberately putting shrimp in the fried rice, now she had to meet her ex-husband."Who are you waiting for? Aren't you alone in this city?"Ajeng deliberately ignored the man. Her heart still ached. After years of recklessly loving Dimas, even Ella called her stupid for being too lovey-dovey, now Ajeng deeply regretted it.She shouldn't have loved that man so much, let alone trusted him completely. What man could be trusted now? Even Evan had easily agreed to Ella's request to remarry. It was not impossible that Evan would remarry if she and Ella left."Ajeng, I know you're still hurt by my decision. But I still love you. If only you were willing to be a co-wife...""Do you realize what you're saying? Do you think women can easily accept their husban

All day long, Ajeng didn't see Evan anywhere. Maybe he went straight to the house he shared with Ella."Hah, thank God! It would be even better if he didn't come back here. Tomorrow, I'll go to work as usual. Visit Ella, go home, rest alone in this house. Ah, life is good," she said, comforting herself. After this, she had to visit Ella more often. She didn't want her best friend to think anything. "Are you hungry, ma'am? I just finished cooking." A middle-aged woman greeted her with a smile. "Let me introduce myself, I'm Bi Marni. I come here at certain hours, ma'am. Morning and evening. Would you like to eat now? You haven't eaten anything since noon. You must be hungry."Ajeng looked around. There were no signs of life other than herself and Bi Marni."Sure, Bi. I'm really hungry. Just call me Ajeng. I'm still young, so don't call me ma'am." Ajeng sat at the dining table and took various dishes that looked appetizing."You are the lady of the house here. Of course I have to call y

  • The Second Wife    4. Wedding Ceremony

"You look so beautiful today. Even though it's simple, you still look like you're wearing an expensive kebaya," Ella said with a cheerful face.Indeed, the kebaya she was wearing cost hundreds of millions of rupiah. Ajeng felt that Ella was deliberately mocking her. Someone with limited financial means like herself would never be able to afford an expensive kebaya just for a wedding ceremony that would only last a few minutes."Why don't you look happy?" Ella asked in surprise.Ajeng should have been the one asking Ella that question. Why did that woman look so happy when her husband was about to marry her own best friend? What kind of world was Ajeng living in now? Maybe this was all just a dream. Maybe she was going crazy and hallucinating."You and Evan look so perfect together. I made the right choice in choosing you as his wife," Ella continued, holding both her hands with a happy smile.Ajeng was even more speechless. Had Ella gone crazy because of her illness? But the woman had
