Alice's POV

Everyone stood in silence, waiting for the doctors to begin.

The two doctors were ready and the nurse had prepared all the equipment. All Lily had to do was lie down on the bed and let them examine her.

But she didn't move.

"Lily, darling," Francoise said quickly, stepping between her daughter and the doctors. "Before the examination, could I have a moment alone with you? Just one minute. I need to give you some strength. A mother's encouragement."

The doctor frowned. "Ma'am, this

Alice's POVOne month had passed since I gave birth to my child. He was still in the hospital. He was so tiny and fragile that he needed special treatment. Treatment I couldn't afford."The medical bills are piling up," my father had said coldly last week. "Unless you want us to stop paying for his care, you'll do exactly what we say."So here I was standing outside a hotel room. The dress Lily had picked out for me was tight and showed too much skin. Also the makeup she'd forced on my face made me look like an expensive escort. "Remember," Lily had whispered in my ear before pushing me out of the car. "Behave yourself. Mr. Chen is paying good money for you. If you mess this up, you'll never see your son again."Her lips crept up in a cruel smile. "Think about your blind little baby. Without our care, he’d be dead." Her words horrified me. I couldn’t let my child die. So I was checking in at a hotel as instructed. I stood in the hallway, staring at the room number on the card in my

David's POVThe car rolled through the tall iron gates of the Kastner estate. I stared out the window, watching the perfectly trimmed gardens and tall palm trees lining the tiled driveway while my jaw clenched tight.Adam was going to get everything. Because his fiancée was six months pregnant. The fact that I worked harder than anyone else in the family, built the Kastner empire bigger and stronger did not matter in comparison to getting married had me fueling with rage. Neither Adam nor my brother had it in them to grow the business. Instead, they’d end it. All my efforts would be in vain. Just because that idiot got his fiance pregnant. I thought about his fiance’s sister who I took to the hospital to give birth. I didn’t know her name but I wondered if she lied to me. She told me Lily wasn’t pregnant and they were planning to use her child as a substitute, yet the examination revealed she was pregnant. My eyes darkened as I saw my reflection on the tinted window. Was I stupid

Alice's POVMy nose scrunched in disgust. It took everything in me to not slap him. But I had to control myself if I didn’t want to be targeted by the Kastner family. My own family was horrible enough. Adam stepped away from me and spoke to David about something. I wiped my hand on my hospital gown, trying to get rid of the feeling of Adam's fingers on my skin. His touch made me feel dirty, like bugs were crawling all over me.My eyes fell on Lily. She had seen the exchange and now she was staring at me like she wanted to kill me. Her face was twisted with anger and her eyes were full of hate.I should have felt satisfied. After all, Adam was her fiancé, not mine. He was the one being unfaithful. She should be mad at him, not me.But instead, I felt sorry for her.Because even though Lily was mean and terrible and had tried to steal my baby, she didn't deserve a fiancé like Adam. Nobody deserved someone who would flirt with another woman while his pregnant fiancée stood right there

"Ma'am, this is an emergency situation.""Just one minute," Francoise insisted in a firm voice. "My daughter is terrified. She thinks she's losing her baby. As her mother, I need to calm her down first."Adam nodded. "Yes, please. Lily needs her mother right now."David's eyes narrowed, but he said nothing."Fine," the doctor agreed. "One minute. But please hurry."Francoise took Lily's arm and pulled her toward the corner of the room, near the bathroom. She positioned them so their backs were to everyone el

Alice's POVAdam's face turned red with anger. His eyes were scary, like a monster's as they darted towards me. "You bitch!" he shouted at me. "I'll make you pay for what you did to Lily!"He rushed forward, his hand raised high in the air.I didn’t have much time to react so I flinched, squeezing my eyes shut, expecting to feel pain from the slap. But it never came.I opened my eyes and saw David Kastner standing between me and Adam. His hand had caught Adam's wrist in mid-air, stopping the slap before it could hit me.Everyone in the room froze."Uncle?" Adam stared at David, confused. "What are you doing? Why are you stopping me?""Where's your upbringing?" David's voice was cold like ice. "How can you lay a hand on a woman who just gave birth?"I watched him with wide eyes. David Kastner, the scary, powerful man who everyone said didn't care about anyone, was protecting me. It was odd because he was the one who brought me to this hellish hospital. Adam pulled his hand back, his

Alice's POVThe car screeched to a stop outside the hospital's emergency entrance."She's bleeding too much!" the driver shouted.I was taken inside the hospital. Everything was spinning. The bright lights above me blurred together as they rushed me down the hallway on a stretcher."We need to get the baby out now," I heard a nurse’s voice. "Prepare for emergency delivery…"The pain was unbearable. I screamed as I was on the bed, going into labor. The doctor encouraged me to push and it took all my strength to not give up. I fought this far to save my baby, I’d fight this too. I gave a final push and heard a tiny, weak cry. My baby! But I couldn’t keep my eyes open for long to see it as darkness pulled me to sleep. When I opened my eyes again, everything was white and blurry. I blinked slowly, trying to remember where I was. My body felt heavy and sore, like I'd been hit by a truck. But my stomach felt empty. The baby.Panic shot through me, and I tried to sit up, but pain explo
