The sound of the military helicopters rattled the pine needles above, sending a spray of ice-cold condensation down onto my face.

"By order of the Alpha Council, the white rogue in your possession is to be terminated immediately"

The synthetic voice boomed from the sky again, vibrating against my breastbone.

The four Ironclaw guards immediately dropped to one knee, turning their carbines toward the sky, but their posture was rigid with panic. The Capital Council’s Enforcers weren't local pack soldiers. They were elite, cold-blooded executioners brought in only when a pack law had been severely broken.

Gideon didn't flinch, instead his arm tightened around my waist, hauling me flush against his side. The warmth of his body burned through my canvas coat, the mate bond pulsing furiously beneath my skin, demanding that I press closer, that I let him shield me.

"Gideon," I gasped, my hand clutching the lapel of his tailored coat. "Your father... he betrayed you."

"He didn't just betray me," Gideon growled, his voice dropping into a low, terrifying register that sounded more wolf than man. "He set the trap."

"Commander." the head guard yelled over the deafening chop of the helicopter blades overhead. "The Council's drop teams are rappelling down the western ridge. We have thirty seconds before they surround the clearing."

"Get to the armored transport," Gideon commanded, his amber eyes locking onto the head guard. "Form a defensive perimeter around the vehicle. Do not fire unless fired upon."

"Sir." the guard hesitated, staring at me with wide, terrified eyes. "The Council ordered her execution. If we defend a rogue, your father will strip your rank.."

"My father is not here," Gideon barked, his Alpha voice slapping the soldier like a physical hand. "I am your commander. Move."

The guard flinched, snapped a salute, and sprinted back through the trees with the rest of his squad.

Gideon turned to me, his gloved hand coming up to cup the back of my neck. His thumb pressed firmly against the pulse point beneath my jaw, feeling the frantic, hammering rhythm of my blood.

"Can you run?" he asked, his golden eyes burning down into mine with fierce, unbroken intensity.

"I can fight," I snapped, reaching down to unsheathe my silver-bladed hunting knife.

"Not against fifty heavy armor executioners," Gideon said smoothly. He reached down, wrapped one arm beneath my knees, and lifted me into his arms before I could protest. "Save your fight for my father."

"Put me down, Sterling." I yelled, panic flaring as he carried me toward the treeline. "I have legs."

"And I have a bulletproof transport," he replied, sprinting through the dense brush with terrifying speed. Even carrying my weight, he moved like a predator, dodging low hanging branches and slick granite boulders without breaking stride.

Behind us, a loud crack echoed through the forest as heavy boots hit the forest floor. Tactical ropes dangled from the dark bellies of the hovering helicopters.

"Target acquired." a harsh voice shouted from the fog behind us. "The Alpha heir is harboring the rogue.Take her down and suppress the heir if necessary."

Suppress the heir. My blood ran cold. They weren't just here to kill me. Gideon’s father had authorized his own son to be taken by force.

A hail of silver tipped suppressed darts hissed through the misty air, embedding themselves into the tree trunks around us with sharp thwacks.

Gideon ducked behind a massive, ancient oak, his heavy chest heaving against mine. I could smell the sharp, copper scent of blood blooming fresh beneath his white chest bandage. The strain of carrying me, combined with his unhealed river wound, was tearing his flesh open again.

"Gideon, you're bleeding." I whispered, pressing my bare hand against his collar, trying to staunch the stain spreading across his dark dress shirt.

The moment my skin touched his open wound, the mate bond flared violently.

A jolt of electric heat shot from my palm straight into his chest. Gideon let out a sharp, ragged gasp, his head snapping back against the rough tree bark.

The pale, exhausted lines around his mouth smoothed out instantly as my royal wolf magic bled into his veins, dulling his pain and surging through his limbs like raw fire.

Gideon looked down at me, his golden eyes blown wide with shock. "What did you just do?"

"I told you," I breathed, my heart pounding in my ears as I felt his strength surge back through the bond. "I'm not a helpless trophy. Now put me on my feet."

He set me down this time, though his hand remained firmly planted on the small of my back.

Ten yards away through the thick fog, the matte black bulk of an armored Ironclaw SUV sat idling in a small clearing. The four guards had taken up defensive positions around the doors, their weapons raised toward the treeline where dark, armored figures were closing in.

"Clear a path." Gideon roared, pulling a heavy silver and black handgun from his shoulder holster.

Gideon stepped out from behind the oak, firing three precise shots into the fog. Three Council executioners collapsed into the ferns with heavy thuds.

I darted beside him, my silver blade catching the harsh searchlights. A Council soldier lunged at me from the mist, his shock baton raised. I ducked beneath his wild swing, drove my shoulder into his chest to throw him off balance, and swept his legs out from under him. Before he could hit the mud, I slammed the heavy hilt of my knife across his helmet visor, shattering the glass and knocking him cold.

"Inside.Now." Gideon shouted, shoving open the heavy, reinforced rear door of the armored transport.

I scrambled into the leather-lined interior, pulling my rucksack in behind me. Gideon threw himself in right after, slamming the heavy iron door shut just as a barrage of silver darts clattered uselessly against the bulletproof glass.

The driver slammed his foot onto the accelerator. The massive engine roared to life, and the armored vehicle lurched forward, crashing through the saplings and tearing onto the muddy logging road at breakneck speed.

Outside the reinforced windows, the searchlights spun wildly in the fog before fading into the distance as we plunged deeper into the mountain pass toward the Ironclaw territory.

Inside the cabin, dark, heavy silence descended.

I slumped back against the plush leather seat, panting heavily, my knuckles white as I gripped the hilt of my hunting knife. My canvas coat was torn, smeared with grease and rain, contrasting sharply with the opulent, high-tech interior of the vehicle.

Beside me, Gideon leaned his head back against the leather headrest, his eyes closed, his chest rising and falling in deep, deliberate breaths. His dress shirt was ruined, torn at the collar, revealing the blood-soaked bandage beneath.

Slowly, his amber eyes opened, turning to look at me in the dim cabin light.

"You healed me," he said softly, his voice low and raspy.

"I didn't heal you," I lied, looking away toward the tinted window. "I just... amplified your own Alpha resilience. It's a trait of the Royal bloodline."

"It felt like fire," Gideon murmured. He reached across the small space between our seats, his gloved hand wrapping around my wrist. He didn't pull, but the heat of his touch traveled straight up my arm, making my breath hitch in my throat. "You saved me again, Lyra."

"That's twice you owe me, Sterling," I said, trying to keep my tone cold, though my pulse raced beneath his gloved fingers. "Where are we going?"

"To the Citadel," Gideon said, his expression darkening into something lethal and cold. "My father thinks he just signed your death warrant. He thinks the Council will handle his mess while he prepares to surrender the border to Silas."

"And when we walk into his boardroom alive?" I asked, narrowing my eyes.

A slow, terrifying smile touched Gideon’s lips. "Then we execute a corporate takeover."

For the next two hours, the armored transport wound its way down the mountain, leaving the wild, misty pine forests behind. Gradually, the wilderness gave way to paved highways, massive concrete retaining walls, and high-security checkpoints guarded by automated turret systems and armored Ironclaw soldiers.

This was the western territory. It wasn't a forest; it was a sprawling, industrial fortress.

skyscrapers rose out of the valley floor, glowing with neon perimeter lights. Factory smoke drifted up into the grey sky, and the scent of pine was entirely replaced by the smell of ozone, diesel, and cold steel.

The vehicle pulled off the main highway, driving up a private, heavily guarded ramp that led directly into the subterranean garage of the Ironclaw Citadel, a tower of black glass that dominated the city skyline.

The transport came to a smooth stop in a private executive bay.

"We're here," Gideon said, unbuckling his seatbelt. He turned to me, his gaze sweeping over my mud splattered coat and wild hair. "My private quarters are on the top floor. You will have an hour to wash, dress, and prepare."

"Prepare for what?" I asked, setting my boots on the floor.

"My father is holding an emergency board meeting right now," Gideon said, stepping out of the vehicle and extending a hand to help me down. "He is addressing the high families, announcing my 'disappearance' and officially declaring a state of war with the Silverfangs."

I took his hand, stepping out onto the polished marble floor of the private garage. The contrast between my wild, mountain self and this cold, sterile concrete world was blinding.

"And what am I supposed to do?" I asked, looking up at him.

Gideon leaned down, his amber eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that made the air in my lungs freeze.

"You are going to walk into that boardroom on my arm," Gideon whispered, his fingers tightening around mine. "You will wear the colors of the Ironclaw heir, you will look my father in the eye, and you will let every family in this valley know that the Royal Lineage hasn't returned to beg for peace..."

He paused, a dark, wicked glint flashing in his golden eyes.

"...She's come to take the crown.”

The medical bay fell into a silence. The low beeping of the life monitors sounded like a ticking bomb against the sterile white tiles. Gideon’s grip on my elbow tightened, his fingers digging into my arm as his amber eyes flared with a lethal, primal gold."The Capital?" Gideon’s voice dropped into a register so dark the glass vials on the counter vibrated. "The High Council wouldn't deploy a targeted bio-weapon on our border without an insider to distribute it.""They didn't need an insider on the border," Elder Vane said quietly, holding the vial of black fluid up to the harsh fluorescent lights. "The Silverfang supply chains were routed through Capital contractors for six months before Silas marched on High Ridge Lodge. Anyone who ingested their combat rations, their healing salves, or their suppressants was made with a dormant synthetic stuff. The moment Lyra activated her royal voice at the Blood Vault...the frequency triggered the toxin," I finished, the blood draining from my

The heavy double doors of the private briefing room clicked shut, muffling the chaotic hum of the Citadel’s main floor below.Outside, the morning sun broke cleanly over the snow capped peaks of the Blackwood Range, burning away the suffocating grey fog that had shrouded the valley for as long as I could remember. The Silverfang pack was no more. With Silas dead and his inner circle executed, the remaining members had surrendered, their tactical armor stripped and their warriors integrated into a newly formed, unified border watch. Marcus Sterling remained confined five floors below in a high-security executive holding cell, stripped of his rank, his comms, and his corporate access. And I was no longer a ghost in a muddy canvas jacket.I stood near the panoramic glass wall of the penthouse, looking at my reflection. The silk dress was gone, replaced by a sleek, dark tactical suit layered with fine silver embroidery along the lapels a design that subtly mirrored the ancient markings of

The courtyard was a bloodbath of heavy smoke, fires, and rain slicked granite.Gideon in his massive silver grey wolf form was an unstoppable force, slamming a giant Silverfang enforcer through the wooden railing of the balcony before spinning to snap another attacker's jaws. I moved right beneath his massive shadow, my silver daggers flashing in the dark. I ducked a wild swing from a heavy broadsword, drove my blade straight up through a guard's leather collar, and kicked his body into the advancing line.“Lyra.The ballroom.” Gideon’s voice slammed directly into my mind through the link, heavy and frantic. “Silas is retreating into the lower levels. He’s taking Elder Vane.”I snapped my head toward the shattered stone archway of the lodge. Through the billowing smoke, I caught sight of Silas dragging the bloodied, bound form of Elder Vane down a flight of spiral stone stairs descending beneath the floorboards."I've got him." I yelled, dropping my shoulder and charging straight through

Inside the quiet, steel lined cabin, the air was thick with the scent of gun oil, leather, and ozone.I sat near the hatch, stripped of the midnight blue silk gown. In its place, I wore a dark, tactical suit made of reinforced leather and kevlar flexible enough for a shift, yet tough enough to turn a knife. The twin silver daggers were strapped securely to my thighs, their familiar weight a grounding presence against the wild, frantic thumping of my heart.Gideon stood by the table in the center of the cabin, reviewing the blueprint of High Ridge Lodge. He wore a sleek, dark grey tactical gear that accentuated his broad shoulders and narrow waist. A heavy combat rifle was slung across his chest, and his dark hair was slightly damp from the rain outside."High Ridge Lodge sits on a narrow cliff face, surrounded by a three hundred foot drop into the canyon," Gideon explained, his finger tracing a red line along the holographic perimeter. "Silas has positioned at least fifty archers alo

Alpha Marcus Sterling stood frozen, his right arm pinned securely to the high wooden back of his executive seat by my dagger. His silver and black handgun lay uselessly on the polished granite table, a mere three inches out of his reach. The grey eyes of the old Alpha burned with a mixture of shock, humiliation, and absolute hatred.Behind us, not a single board member dared to breathe. The ancient, royal frequency in my voice had settled over the room like a physical weight, forcing even the most arrogant clan elders to lower their eyes.Gideon stood beside me, his broad frame a wall of cold charcoal wool, the heavy barrel of his gun resting casually against the side of his father’s skull."Guards," Gideon said softly. His voice didn't rise, but the Alpha power in his tone made the air in the room turn ice cold. "Take Marcus to the lower executive holding cell. Strip him of his comms, his biometric clearance, and his sidearms."The two guards at the door snapped out of their shock.

  • The Silver Pact   Penthouse

The penthouse suite at the top of the Ironclaw Citadel felt less like a home and more like a fortress.Below, through windows, the industrial valley stretched out like a glowing grid of steel, neon, and smoke. I stood in the middle of the immense marble bathroom, the steam from the waterfall shower still clinging to the cold mirrors. On the granite counter lay the clothes Gideon’s personal attendants had brought me.There was no wool, no canvas, and no mountain mud. In their place sat a gown of midnight blue silk, sleek and heavy, structured with subtle silver embroidery along the boning of the bodice. Beside it rested a pair of silver daggers sleek, tactical blades designed to be concealed in forearm sheaths lined with velvet. They didn't just want me to look like a lady of the high court. They wanted me to look like a weapon.I traced my fingers over the cold silk, my heart beating an erratic rhythm against my ribs. For three years, I had hidden behind dull colors and suppressant
