Chapter 3 No More Dorm, No More Risk

Author: A. A. Rowan
When my mother heard me, she looked at me with concern. "Sienna, your throat hurts? Have Sylvan take you to a doctor later. The weather's been so hot lately. It'll be awful if you fell ill now."

She immediately told Sylvan to bring over the first-aid kit they'd prepared, saying there were some basic medicines inside in case I couldn't get to a doctor at school right away.

I nearly burst into tears when I saw the worry on their faces. It had been so long since I'd felt such unconditional love.

In my previous life, they had devoted themselves entirely to Annie after I drank that milkshake, ignoring everything I said and looking at me as if I were their enemy. In the end, they had given up everything for her, even their lives.

I wasn't going to let that tragedy happen this time around.

"Mom, I don't want to stay in the dorm anymore. Didn't you buy me an apartment unit near campus? Can I move there instead?"

I had actually enrolled in a local university. Although home wasn't too far away, my mom had still bought an apartment nearby as soon as she found out I'd been accepted—just so I wouldn't have to stay in the dorm and could live more comfortably on my own.

"The dorms are crowded. I was worried you wouldn't get used to it. And with a roommate… what if your lifestyles don't match?"

Back then, my mom had listed a whole string of concerns, but I had insisted on staying in the dorm. I thought it would help me build better relationships with my classmates, so I didn't want to stand out by living off-campus right from the start.

My mom respected my decision and agreed without much fuss.

What I hadn't expected was to be assigned to a mixed dorm. The other two roommates were seniors who were out on internships most of the time and rarely came back. In the end, it was just me and Annie left in the room.

Even though I had no idea how Annie could drink the milkshake and come out completely fine, I decided to play it safe.

I thought I could at least avoid her if I couldn't fight her.

As long as I kept my distance, it didn't matter what tricks she had up her sleeve because she wouldn't be able to use them on me.

"So, you were pretending this whole time?" Annie staggered back several steps, disbelief written all over her face."Of course. Otherwise, how could we get you to drop your guard and casually say something like that?" I lifted the phone that was still playing the recording. Then, I turned toward my dad with a smile. "Dad, Mom, Sylvan, and I did a pretty good job, didn't we? We practised this for quite a while just so it would look believable."That call I made before going to dinner with my dad had been deliberate. I already knew Annie worked part-time at that restaurant, so I went there on purpose. I showed her how much my dad doted on me just to intentionally give her another chance to bind the system. In the end, her jealousy and resentment got the better of her, causing her to expose herself. That was how I confirmed the black ring was the binding medium. As for this whole jumping incident… Well, it had simply been the final act we staged together."Annie, how does it fee

"Mom, Dad, Sylvan… Please, I'm begging you. You can't go."Annie's show had a segment where family members came to support the contestants. She claimed she had no parents, so she asked my parents and Sylvan to go in her place. However, the restaurant video had already spread everywhere. So, everyone knew the man sitting beside me was my father. The moment they publicly showed up for Annie, I would end up abandoned and ridiculed by everyone, just like I had in my past life."Sienna, what are you plotting now? I wouldn't even know you've been bullying Annie all this time if it weren't for that video. Since we're all here today, I'll make this clear—we're going to support Annie. "And while we're at it, we'll use this chance to announce that we're cutting ties with you and taking Annie in as our goddaughter. You have nothing to do with us from now on." My mom flung me aside as she spoke. The force sent me crashing onto the floor. I stared at their retreating backs in shock, terror

I stared unblinkingly amid the deafening roar of machinery, watching as the black ring was crushed into fine powder.I finally let out a breath I hadn't realized I'd been holding. Now that the media was gone, I wanted to see how Annie could possibly stir up any more trouble. It didn't take long for me to realize I really shouldn't have tempted fate.I was walking through campus when I noticed people pointing at me everywhere I went. Some of them even held up their phones, glancing between the screen and me as if trying to confirm something.'What's going on?'I was so confused, so I pulled out my phone. That was when I saw the latest trending notification. My heart sank as I read the titles.'Teen Delinquent Bullies Poor Student—18-Year-Old Girl Kneels in Restaurant Begging for Forgiveness.'I tapped into it, only to find footage from the restaurant. Someone had recorded everything and uploaded it online. Annie's tearful, trembling figure in the video made it look as though I wa

Alas, the one thing I feared most happened regardless of my wish.I followed my dad and Sylvan to a small restaurant near campus. I had been the one to suggest it. This place had been around for years. It was located right by the school gates, and the food was cheap but delicious. So, a lot of students loved the establishment.I had only been given 1,500 for living expenses last month. I had been living as frugally as possible to save up to rent a place, barely daring to spend money on food. That was how I had stumbled across this hidden gem.So, I turned him down when my dad suggested going somewhere more upscale. I wanted him and Sylvan to try this place too.I hadn't expected that the server walking toward us would be Annie the moment we stepped inside."Sienna, you're here to eat?" Annie looked genuinely happy when she saw me.I had been extremely careful about what I ate. I had never eaten anything in front of her, even back when we shared a dorm.In my previous life, I had

I quickly took a screenshot and called my mom to ask about it. I hadn't expected her to admit that she had indeed gone with Annie, and it wasn't just her. Sylvan had gone along too."Why, Mom? I've already moved out. She's not even my roommate anymore."I couldn't understand how this had happened. I had been so afraid something might go wrong during that time that I went home almost every single day, except for one day. I had a full schedule of classes, and my mom had told me she was going for a medical checkup. That was why I hadn't gone home, but it turned out she hadn't gone for a checkup at all. She had gone to accompany Annie."So what if she's not your roommate? She's still your friend, isn't she?" My mom's tone suddenly turned sharp and unforgiving. "Sienna, what's gotten into you? You've become so selfish. Is this how I raised you? You've been testing me these past few days, hinting and probing about whether I've been in contact with Annie, so I didn't say a word."Ann

"Well, if it isn't Ms. Gavell. What are you doing here, shaking milkshakes?""Aren't you your family's precious little princess? Yet you're now stuck living in a dorm, can't even afford food, and have to work a job like this.""Did your family company go under, or did that perfect image you worked so hard to build finally fall apart?"I was working part-time at the time, trying to save up enough to move out and stay far away from Annie. I hadn't expected to run into my old high school classmates. They had never liked me back then. Now that they'd caught me like this, they didn't hesitate to pounce.I didn't want to engage. I just focused on making their milkshakes as quickly as possible, hoping they'd leave. However, they took my silence as avoidance and laughed even harder. Then, they ordered 80 cups of whipped frozen lemonade. They even specifically requested that I be the one to make them."You were so cocky back in high school. This is what you get, Sienna!""Do it proper
