SEREIA

I don’t know how long we drove for but when I woke up from my nap we were leaving the busy streets of New York behind and entering a neighborhood where the trees were tall and the gates were high.

The SUV pulled up to a massive iron gate that opened slowly. The car drove up a long driveway that was lined with lanterns.

At the end of the drive way was a house, it wasn’t just a house it was a palace. It was huge with sharp lines and massive windows that glowed in the night.

The car suddenly stopped and a man in suit walked towards the door opening it for Valerian. He came down and walked towards my door as he opened it and I couldn’t help but stare at his stoic face with one questioned dancing at the tip of my tongue.

“Who are you, Valerian?” I questioned as he led me out of the car towards his massive front doors.

“Answer my question.” I whispered and he stopped for a second looking down at me, our height difference clearly evident. His mouth twitched with a smirk that didn’t

SEREIAI stumbled out of the office, the folders of the report felt like lead in my hands. My eyes blurred with tears but I refused cry atleast not over paper.I’d spent the entire half of the morning ensuring the margins were perfect and the staples were at a 45- degree angle only to be told the paper weight was incorrect. He didn’t even bother to look at the content he just tossed the file at me.I walked back to my desk with heavy stomps and I found the ream of 32- pound paper, it was thicker and I can’t lie it felt expensive, just like everything in this office.I reprinted the entire fifty-page record, the sound of the printer felt like a judgment at my incompetence. Each sheet reminding me of my failure. When I was done I walked back to his office secretly hoping he didn’t want a darker ink or something.I walked into his office and I gave him the file, he took them his eyes scanning them intently— probably looking for a fault.“Better.” He said few minutes after scanning the pa

  • The Sister He Never Chose    Chapter 17

SEREIA The huge doors of Nethrix felt like the entrance to a high security prison or maybe it was just my nervousness speaking.I smoothed down my skirt for the tenth time and at the same time I clutched the handle of my bag so tight it began to wrinkle, I was scared or maybe nervous and the executive assistant badge on my shirt added a heavy weight of expectations on me.I took a deep breath to calm myself down as I walked into the company immediately forgetting all my thoughts outside the door. I walked through the lobby passing the receptionist desk from yesterday only to see a new lady, this one looked kinder and more welcoming and the guilt in my heart from getting the last one fired dissipated.I took the elevator to the top floor and as soon as I reached I found Sarah already on her desk, her fingers typing on the keyboard so smoothly it almost made no sound. She looked up as soon as I approached her and a warm smile spread across her face and I was grateful for her inviting

SEREIAThe elevator was silent and the tension on it was thick enough to be cut with a knife but thankfully the elevator moved fast. I stared at the steel floor feeling the weight of everything that had just happened.“You fired her.” I whispered holding my CV tightly in my hands.“She was incompetent.” Valerian replied swiftly his hands behind his back as he stared at the walls”“I don’t pay her to insult my guests.” He added and I stared at him for a few seconds before I replied.“I’m not a guest tho, I’m here to work”“Exactly!” He countered and I nodded deciding to keep quiet the rest of the ride, the doors finally opened onto the top floor. This floor was even more beautiful that the lobby. It was glass so it gave a three hundred degree view of the New York skyline. It was like I was standing on top of the world. As soon as we stepped out a middle aged balding man in a grey suit rushed towards us.“Mr. Ashford! The board members are waiting. They are confused as to why you walke

SEREIAMonday morning arrived quicker than I expected, I had spent the weekend preparing for the meeting and of course researching about the great Valerian Ashford.Turns out he is a billionaire tech CEO. His company is called Nethrix and they build elite cybersecurity and infrastructure systems used by governments and billion-dollar firms.I never knew he was that rich, I know his suits could have been a tell tale but I guess I didn’t think too far, I mean he his a billionaire and he still lets his grandmother work.I shook my head to rid myself of all these thoughts as I stared at the big building in front of me.It was a giant made of glass and steel and it stretched so high into the sky that I had to crane my neck to see the name written at the top— NETHRIX.I had done my best in looking professional today— black skirt and a white blouse that I had ironed at least three times. My hair was pulled back into a neat bun making me look presentable.I took a deep breath as I thought of

  • The Sister He Never Chose    CHAPTER 13

SEREIAI sat on the sidewalk, the rain coming down in a cold, steady rhythm. My hair was soaked and it’s stuck to my neck, my feet were now bare and so I felt colder than ever. The cold was nothing compared to the weight in my chest. I felt like a fool— like something Lucas and Selena had stepped on and they couldn’t even care less about me.My hands tightened around my phone as I thought about the humiliation I faced at the boutique and as I stared at my white knuckles that were wrapped around my phone. I regretted calling Valerian. Why would a man who barely knew me even come for me?I was just a girl who he had a one night stand and I trust he knew better than to entertain a weakling like me.He probably hadn't even meant the offer and it was just said to patronize me.I stood up from the wet sidewalk as I decided to find my way home when a black SUV turned the corner. It wasn’t just a car, it was a beast. It was sleek, and the windows were tinted so dark I couldn’t even see anythi
