The days turned into weeks and then months. Gabe was always with her even after she stopped working at the high school and then changed her hours from the graveyard shift to the day shift so the two could have the nights to themselves. They had gone to two services in those first few weeks. They had also made a stand when people questioned the two of them being together.
“Larissa, I got some news today,” Gabe said as he walked into the house while she was cooking some noodles for their dinner.
“What is that?” she asked without turning around.
“Remember at dad’s service you asked me to leave this job, and I told you I would apply to the middle school a few towns over?” Gabe asked as he placed his things down on the table and then walked to in the back of her.
“Yeah, I remember that.” She said.

He stood up and began to get ready to walk out. “Where are you going next?” he asked as he looked down at her. She already felt small, but when he stood up, he dwarfed her. The pair were seen together through the days from fall to spring. They had three classes together, and those were the ones he wasn’t having trouble in. She spent most of her free time tutoring him on the other three. Because of her, he was passing now, and they laughed about it. They talked almost every day as well. Over the breaks it was weird to have the other one not around. Though it didn’t change once they were back together again.“Mav!” She said as she came running up to the bench. Over the summer, they attended the meetings, with her father dropping her off and Maverick bringing her back to the farm later in the evening. The next day was often the worst for her because she would still get up before the sunrise to do the chores she had been assigned. The fact she was different didn’t get her any special treatment on the farm. She was okay with that. Her parent's divorce was being dragged out in the court system even though all the kids had said who they wanted to live with already, and their parents were not contesting that at all.Maverick knew that she had told the courts she didn’t care who she had to live with. The drive to the farm wasn’t all that long. Though he knew this was not probably the smartest thing to do, he couldn’t argue with her. He honestly didn’t know why he voluntarily took this child as his responsibility, but he had as it seemed that no one else seemed to care what happened to her, including her family. “Excuse me?” Maverick said in a deep growl, and the shadow came to a halt. They looked around and saw him. “I do not believe that she needs any company.”The person bolted out of the hallway and then out one of the doors. Maverick could breathe a bit better after realizing that he had saved her from probably some more trauma. Now he really didn’t want her to be alone. This was the final straw.He went over to the door and opened it and saw she was fast asleep, still on the bed.
