Reed looked at Mason as the entire group was watching them as they talked. When the two finally came back to the group as they waited for the dog to arrive on the scene, she was slightly calmer. Mason, for his part, didn’t look thrilled with any part of this. It wasn’t supposed to happen this way. Nothing was supposed to happen this way. He wasn’t supposed to be there. He knew that.
