Ashley

The Luna got up from her chair, lifting her arms up into the air and looking like she was about to faint from relief. “Oh, Zane! You're finally awake. Your recovery was swift this time.” She pulled him away from me and touched his face, running her hands over the light shadow of his beard. “How do you feel?”

Zane fidgeted a little, shifting out of her tight embrace. “I'm doing better now.” He pointed to me. “And it's because of one of the potions she gave me. She's a healer, and I would like her to work for us here in the tribe.”

Potion? What potion?

My eyes went wide in confusion, before I realised that he was trying to cover up for me to spare me from more trouble. I adjusted my expression quickly, and nodded in agreement.

With a roll of her eyes and an exasperated sigh, Clara came up to me and pulled me to my feet harshly. “I'll take her back.”

Why she was suddenly reserving all her comments about me in Zane's presence seemed a little strange. Just a while ago, she was so

Ashley Less than an hour into my journey, I knew that I had not planned things effectively. For one, stepping outside the protected territory of the Lycan Tribe felt like stepping into deep wilderness. I felt eyes on me, and every tree branch or shrub that made a sound sounded louder than thunder. I found myself touching the three bottles that Alicia had given me more often than not.Evening was fast approaching, qnd I hadn't found a good spot to rest yet. My initial target was to go to Moonlit Silver, but that would have been a very foolish move considering what happened with Jace.Plus, I had an inkling that if Jace had been in possession of the relic himself, he'd have gloated about it. I sunk deep into the memory that I had about Elena and Elder Joseph, hoping to find something that might have slipped from it. But I kept coming up empty. For some reason, I didn’t have an unwavering belief that the relic was in Moonlit Silver pack. No. That would have been too visible, especially

ZaneThe realm of consciousness hit me hard and fast, brought to me by pain. Everything hurt, and nothing felt right with my body. Every breath, every second, and every twitch of my body hurt like a thousand needles. Immediately I became aware of my situation, I ran out of breath.Someone must have noticed my struggling, because a hand touched my arm gently. “Calm down, Zane. You're not alone.”I knew that voice very well. Alicia. I tried to turn my head, but it felt heavy, like someone had tied a huge rock to the back of it.“Shh, don't try to move. You're in pretty bad shape . . . It's a miracle we were able to stabilise you.” Her face appeared above me, fair and rounded, and usual. Seeing a familiar face reduced some of the worry in my heart. The last thing I could remember was my whole body locking up, and then a bright flash of light that ended it all. Ashley. Clara and Bryce trying to help.I closed my eyes and opted to mind-link Alicia, since my mouth felt sealed together. The

Jace“Damn it!” I pushed everything I could lay my hands on to the ground. “Damn it!” I had thrown and broken so many things, but nothing had been able to reduce my anger. An opportunity I had been waiting so long for, finally came, only for it to slip through my fingers like sand. To say I was disappointed was an understatement.Nothing had gone as I planned, even though I had been meticulous and made sure to have a second option for every plan that cane to mind. But all that didn't hurt as much as Ashley's betrayal. I would never forget how she looked at me with so much hatred. And the words she'd spat to my face. Things had indeed been rough between us, but I genuinely believed she'd have understood why I did all those things. Not only had she essentially spat on my face by getting comfortable with those murderers, she had proceeded to actually mate with that beast. Their Lycan King. My heart was torn between anger and betrayal.Even when she had been asking me about the relic, it

AshleyThe next morning, after the storm emerged a very fragile calm just waiting to shatter. Alicia had managed to successfully patch me up, and with the tinctures I took, the worst of my injuries had sealed up. There were still little scars strewn across my neck here and there, but they weren't prominent enough to cause any alarm. Besides, I already had bigger scars, and I wasn't ashamed of those either. Immediately I could that day, I went to Zane's room, where he was still unconscious. His eyes were closed, his long lashes pointing up to the ceiling. He looked peaceful, almost. We still didn't understand what exactly had happened with him back in the outskirts of the territory, but an assumption I had was that he had either used his powers too much, or it was simply a side effect of the curse itself. Either way, it didn't look good. With more urgency in my heart to find the relic, staying by his side didn't do anything to soothe my nerves. I was losing him little by little, and

AshleyJust when I thought I could take the agony no longer, something remarkable happened.Jace's cry of pain filled the air, and he let go of me at last. I dropped to the floor, immediately using my hands to catch myself. Hot tears ran down my cheeks, spurred by my freedom and the trauma of being so helpless.Flashes lit up the sky as Zane reawakened his powers, rushing towards Jace without wasting another moment. Jace tried to get out of the way, but he was too slow, and Zane's fist connected with his jaw, creating a resounding crack that sounded very much like thunder. The impact of the punch sent him flying backwards into a tree that partially splinted once his body came in contact with it.Bryce stood there breathing heavily with a bloody silver spear in his hand. Eyes glowing, body contorting inch by inch into that of a beast. I had never seen a Lycan shift before, but I knew it was something they didn't have to do often because they carried immense strength even in their hum

Ashley “Ungh . . .” Everything hurt. The light pushed past my eyelids, forcing them open. It felt like my body was on a rocking boat, moving up and down. And everything was upside down.“What . . .?” I grunted, trying to get my bearings. There was a weight around my waist, preventing me from moving so much. My abdomen rested against a hard surface.I was being carried on someone's shoulder.Memories flashed through my mind. James. Jace. Clara.Clara!I shook violently, trying to free myself from my captor. “No!”“Stay still, Ashley.”I didn't listen, but instead increased my movement until I jabbed my elbows into his back. “Let. Me. Go!” I pressed on again, and this time, my assault worked. With a grunt, Jace's grip on my body loosened as he lost balance. In the process of trying to right himself he forgot about me, and I used the opportunity to practically roll off him and down to the floor.I scrambled to my feet and looked around. We weren't too far from where Clara had found us
