Chapter 3

Author: Manny
Upon hearing my words, Eliana grew furious with shame.

“Are you really that impressed by a few crumbs she threw your way? Fine! Go then. Don’t come crying to me when she’s done with you!”

After saying this, she stormed off in a rage.

Early the next morning, I went to the private styling studio. After three hours of effort, I looked like a completely different person.

When I came out of that studio, Bella became very excited and circled me several times.

“You look even more like him now! Smile for me.”

I gave her my brightest and most radiant smile.

Bella instantly transferred another 10,000 dollars to me.

I felt intense satisfaction when I received the payment notification. Earning ten thousand so easily made my gaze toward Bella grow even more covetous.

After the styling session, Bella took me to a restaurant for a meal. She ordered many delicacies that I had only ever seen on television.

Throughout the entire dinner, I attended to Bella with meticulous care. I maintained a gentle and handsome smile.

Bella thoroughly enjoyed the meal.

Halfway through, she suddenly stood up. “Wait here. I’ll be right back.”

I simply nodded in agreement without asking anything and waited quietly.

“Goodness, Ethan. Why are you sitting all by yourself? Where’s your sugar mommy?”

I looked up and saw Eliana. She was with several of her classmates. That was when I recalled that our class’s back-to-school dinner was also being held at this restaurant.

“She just stepped out for a minute,” I answered plainly as I wiped the grease from my fingers.

“Or did she go to call her friends to share you?” a girl said with malice.

Quite a few classmates were jealous that I had earned tens of thousands of dollars in a single day, and she was one of them.

“See? I knew that trust-fund princess Bella was up to no good!”

“Well, did she even pay? They’re going to stick you with the bill. If you can’t cover it, in the best-case scenario, you’ll get thrown out. In the worst-case scenario, you’ll end up being sent to jail.”

“Look at him. What a sellout. He traded his dignity for a few stacks, and now he’s just the punchline of her joke.”

“Exactly!”

A few other classmates laughed loudly, “Totally. He’s licking her boots for scraps, and for what? He won’t get much money and will have ruined his own future.”

“A person should be down-to-earth and live an honest life.”

After listening to their taunts, I fired back directly. “You guys don’t need to worry about me.

“The money Ms. White gave me is more than enough to cover this bill myself, with plenty left over.

“That alone is enough for my living expenses.”

At that moment, a server approached me. “Sir, your 100,000-dollar bottle of wine has arrived from our headquarters. Would you like us to decant it for you?”

Hearing the amount, Eliana’s face momentarily twisted in envy. She said with a sour tone, “You can put that wine back. There’s no need to open it. He’s a paid entertainer. His sugar mommy just walked out. He can’t afford it.”

“Yeah, you should run the check for this table now. Get payment upfront, before someone here decides to dine and dash.

“Otherwise, you’ll be the one held responsible.”

Just as the group hurled insults at me freely and other guests in the hall began to look over, Bella returned carrying gifts. She saw the mocking expressions on their faces. Her entire demeanor immediately turned hostile.

“What kind of lowlife came to cause a ruckus while I was away? Who gave you the nerve to mess with my man?!”

Near the end of the year, I finally saw Eliana again. This time, however, it was at the police station. She had been caught hiring a hitman. Victor’s childhood sweetheart from overseas had directly reported her to the police, which led to her arrest. When I arrived at the station, the scene inside was chaotic. Victor’s childhood sweetheart had returned to the country. She slapped him across the face and said, “Victor, is this how you show your love for me? By finding twenty substitutes in one year?“I just missed you so much, Amy.”Victor spoke in a thoroughly wretched state. “I swear, none of them mean anything! You’re still the only one I love!“Now that you’re back, I’ll get rid of all of them! I’ll do it right now!”“Spare me! I was only abroad, not dead!“If you missed me, you could’ve bought a plane ticket to see me.“You didn’t even visit once this year. Meanwhile, you’re having the time of your life back here!“We’re done, Victor. I’m breaking up with you!”Amy was

His name was Garrison Dawn. He and Bella were childhood sweethearts who shared a deep bond from a young age. Their marriage was also formally arranged by their families. They were originally a perfect match in every sense: their families were of equal social standing, and they themselves were like the ideal fairy-tale couple. They seemed destined for each other. It is a great pity that one car accident destroyed everything.Garrison took the blow for Bella and died on the spot. She survived, but was left alone, trapped in the past she could not escape.Bella had been very good to me during this time. Although I was just a substitute, I sincerely hoped she could find closure and embrace a new life. Her smile faded as her eyes welled up with tears. “To move on... is something that’s easier said than done.”“You have to live well for his sake too. Garrison wouldn’t want you stuck like this,” I urged. This time, Bella fell silent for a long while. Then she gave me a bright smile.

To them, my very existence was a mistake. Any time they got angry, I was the one who got hit and yelled at.Whenever I had a dispute with Eliana, they would always side with her without asking for the truth. In the past, I always believed they would change. I was their biological son. Surely, they would eventually put aside their prejudices and be good to me.I waited until my dying day in that life, and it never came. When I got sick, they just cut me off. They said good riddance to me when I died, claiming I deserved my illness. They said I had been a burden for decades and should have done them the favor of dying long ago. This time around, I took note of their fury and made my peace with it.They simply did not love me. There was no point trying to force it.After they scolded me for over ten minutes, my father finally spoke with indifference. “I heard you have over 100,000 dollars. Hand it over. Your family needs it. Then cut all ties with that young heiress.“Or else, I’m

The mere thought of her impending misfortune filled me with satisfaction.Ever since then, my relationship with Eliana had been completely severed. She proceeded to spread rumors about me on the campus forum. She claimed I had sold my dignity for money. She called me shameless for becoming someone’s boy toy. She said I was corrupting the campus’s moral atmosphere.I became infamous across the entire campus. Many people looked at me with contempt. Some would even shout after Bella, “Ms. White, do you still need a substitute? I’ll do it for 5,000 dollars!”The situation grew increasingly chaotic. Finally, my academic advisor reluctantly called me in. He advised me to cut ties with Bella.I directly countered him, saying, “As far as I know, I haven’t violated any school regulations.“In the end, this only ruins my reputation. It doesn’t really involve the campus.”My advisor said helplessly, “It does have some impact—”I interrupted him. “Sir, what’s your monthly salary?”“8,000

Victor was different from Bella. He was a reckless heir from a wealthy family. Arrogant and domineering since childhood, he was thoroughly dissolute. His family used their formidable influence to suppress the many bullying incidents he caused. The man was interested in pretty face without a discernible type. But he did have a childhood sweetheart who had moved abroad during their high school years. For him to speak to me like that upon our first meeting meant he had taken a fancy to me.Yet Bella’s family was more powerful than Victor’s. In the past, Eliana learned this truth not long after getting involved with him.To cement her position, she obtained a photo of his childhood sweetheart and underwent plastic surgery to look like her. She funded the entire procedure with an online loan taken out in my name. Her looks slowly morp

“Ethan, take a look. It only costs 0.5 dollars per parcel pickup. It’s super cheap. I hope you’ll consider using my service,” Claire said eagerly as she handed me the flyer. Her cautious, timid demeanor made my heart ache. Only out of true desperation would someone willingly do such odd jobs and humble themselves in that way.“You can handle all my parcel pickups for this semester,” I said immediately.Other classmates who were also aware of Claire’s family situation began to patronize her business as well. With all these small tasks combined, she could make over 20 dollars a day.Eliana, who had been watching the scene, suddenly spoke up with clear displeasure.“Are you seriously that desperate? Running a side hustle all over campus instead of studying, and guilt-tripping people into it? Have some self-respect.”I watched Eliana lash out and frowned in disgust. She was truly unhinged. What was wrong with Claire trying to earn a living?Claire had always been a timid and insecur
