I locked my bedroom door and immediately leaned against the heavy wood, letting out a breath I felt like I’d been holding since I walked through the front gates.

My new room was ridiculous. It was massive, decorated in soft creams and golds, with a four-poster bed that looked like it belonged in a French castle.

But all I could see was the heavy oak door, and all I could hear was Arthur’s voice echoing in my head. *You belong to me.*

My skin was still crawling from the way he’d gripped my neck, a terrifying mix of dread and a heavy, confusing heat pooling low in my stomach.

I needed to get out of my conservative clothes. The thick turtleneck was suffocating me.

I stripped off the sweater and the long skirt, tossing them onto a velvet chair, and dug through my suitcase.

The house was heavily climate-controlled, so I pulled out a simple, ribbed-knit midi dress. It was a deep burgundy, with a cowl neck that draped softly over my heavy breasts and a skirt that clung desperately to my thick thighs and the soft curve of my hips.

I wasn’t trying to be provocative, but I knew exactly how the fabric looked against my plus-size frame. It left absolutely nothing to the imagination.

I just needed a glass of ice water before I had to face Arthur at dinner.

I slipped out of my room and started wandering the second-floor hallway, looking for the grand staircase.

The mansion was a maze of identical cream-colored walls and abstract art.

I turned a corner, my eyes scanning the paintings, and practically slammed into a solid wall of muscle.

"Whoa, careful there."

A large hand caught my arm, steadying me, and another hand slid to the small of my bare back to keep me from stumbling.

The touch was warm, heavy, and sent a sudden, sharp jolt of electricity straight down to my toes.

"I'm so sorry," I gasped, stepping back quickly. "I wasn't looking where I was going."

"It's fine. This house is a maze if you don't know the layout," a smooth, charming voice replied.

I looked up, and my breath hitched.

He was tall, with broad shoulders that strained against the fabric of a crisp, white dress shirt.

The top three buttons were undone, revealing a glimpse of a tanned chest, and the sleeves were rolled up to his forearms.

He was clean-shaven, with perfectly styled dark hair and striking, pale blue eyes.

He looked like he had just stepped off the cover of a corporate magazine. The golden boy.

But it was the way he was looking at me that made my pulse kick into overdrive.

His eyes weren't just politely taking in my face.

They were dragging slowly down the drape of my cowl neck, lingering on the heavy swell of my cleavage, before dropping to the tight knit fabric hugging my waist and thighs. It was a slow, deliberate appraisal.

A hungry, calculating stare that made my skin prickle.

"You must be Roxy," he said, his lips curving into a polite, devastatingly handsome smile. "I'm Leo. Arthur's son."

"Right. Leo," I breathed out, my brain scrambling to catch up. "It's nice to meet you. I was just looking for the kitchen."

"Let me show you," he offered, his voice dripping with casual charm. He didn't step away, though.

His hand was still resting on the small of my back, his long fingers splayed against the thin fabric of my dress, right over my bare skin where the back dipped low. The heat of his palm was searing.

"Thank you," I muttered, starting to walk.

He fell into step beside me, his hand guiding me gently. "My father told us you were moving in today. He’s been... looking forward to it."

The way he said *looking forward to it* made my stomach twist. "Yeah. He gave me quite the welcome."

Leo let out a soft, dark chuckle. The sound vibrated in the quiet hallway.

"Arthur is a man who knows exactly what he wants, and he always takes it. You're very beautiful, Roxy. I can see why he was so eager to sign those papers."

My cheeks burned. I wasn't used to men being this blunt, especially not my new step-brother. "Thanks. I think."

We reached the grand staircase, and he guided me down.

Every time his hand shifted on my back, his thumb would brush against my spine, a subtle, maddening friction that made my thighs clench together.

There was something deeply familiar about the weight of his touch.

The way his body angled toward mine, the heavy, suffocating gravity he gave off, the way his eyes tracked every jiggle of my curves as we walked.

It felt like a phantom echo of the tattooed biker from the club last night.

I shook my head slightly, trying to clear the thought. It was ridiculous.

The guy at the club was a rough, leather-clad enforcer who smelled like smoke and whiskey. Leo Sterling was a polished, blue-eyed CEO who smelled like expensive cedar and mint. They were nothing alike.

It was just the stress of the house getting to me.

We reached the bottom of the stairs, and the smell of roasted garlic and expensive wine drifted from the dining room. Leo stopped just before the double doors, his hand sliding from my back to gently grip my elbow.

He leaned down, his mouth hovering just inches from my ear. The charming, golden-boy smile dropped from his face, replaced by something dark and entirely predatory.

"He told you that you belong to him, didn't he?" Leo whispered, his voice so low it was barely a breath.

I froze, my heart slamming against my ribs. I turned my head to look at him, my eyes wide. "How did you—"

"Arthur always marks his territory before he even touches it," Leo interrupted, his pale blue eyes locking onto mine, swirling with a twisted, possessive amusement.

He reached up, his knuckles lightly brushing the sensitive skin of my jaw.

"But don't worry, sweetheart. I'm going to enjoy watching him try to keep you all to himself."

Before I could process the sheer, taboo insanity of what he just said, he pushed the dining room doors open, his charming smile snapping back into place like a mask.

"Father," Leo called out, his voice bright and polite. "I found her."

The words written on the back of the index card burned into my retinas, sharp and unforgiving, and the air in the dorm room suddenly felt too thin to breathe. He can't protect you through a screen, Jules, but I can see you right now.My heart slammed against my ribs with such violent force that my vision actually swam with black spots. I slowly, agonizingly, lifted my gaze from the card to the ceiling. Right above my bed, nestled in the cheap white plastic of the smoke detector, was a tiny, faint red LED light. It was blinking. A slow, steady, rhythmic pulse that matched the terrified, frantic beating of my own heart. I didn't move. I didn't gasp, and I didn't scream, because if Roman was watching me right now, if he had audio, any sudden reaction would tell him that I knew. My hands were shaking so badly I could barely hold the card, but I forced myself to walk calmly over to my desk, sit down in the squeaky rolling chair, and open my laptop. I needed to look like I was just st

"Tell me he didn't take what belongs to this family," Leo had whispered, his thumb still resting heavily against my bottom lip. But the moment the words left his mouth, the fragile, suffocating tension in the room completely shattered. Leo didn't wait for my answer. His polished, golden-boy facade snapped like a dry twig, and before I could even blink, his fist connected with Damian’s jaw with a sickening, bone-jarring *crack*. Damian’s head snapped to the side, but he didn't fall. Instead, a dark, guttural laugh ripped from his chest, and he spat a drop of blood onto the pristine carpet. "Finally," Damian growled, his dark eyes flashing with pure, unadulterated violence. "I was wondering how long it would take for you to lose your mind, little brother."Then, he lunged. The two of them crashed into the massive mahogany desk with enough force to splinter the wood. Lamps shattered against the floor, and stacks of legal documents exploded into the air like snow. I screamed, pressi

The brass handle rattled again, a harsh, metallic sound that echoed like a warning bell in the quiet office. Leo was out there. My heart was hammering so hard against my ribs I was terrified Damian could hear it. I was still pinned against the heavy wood of the door, my chest heaving, my skin flushed and burning from the sheer, suffocating gravity of the man caging me in. Damian hadn’t moved an inch. His thigh was still pressed against mine, his dark eyes locked onto the door with a twisted, psychotic sort of amusement. "Open the door, Damian," Leo’s polished voice called out again, though the fake sweetness was starting to fray at the edges. "I know you’re in there. And I heard a voice."Damian let out a low, rough chuckle that vibrated right through my chest. He didn't step back. Instead, he reached up, his large hand brushing a stray lock of hair behind my ear, his knuckles grazing my burning cheek. It was a deliberate, claiming gesture. "Want me to tell him to go away?" he m

I stared at the glowing screen of my phone until the words blurred, my heart hammering a frantic, sickening rhythm against my ribs. He thinks he owns you, but we both know I already had you first. The text message was burned into my retinas. I quickly locked the phone and shoved it under my pillow, trying to block out the sheer, terrifying reality of what it meant. The guy who had wrecked me in that hotel room, the one who had left me aching and breathless just twenty-four hours ago, was Arthur Sterling’s son. Which meant he was my new step-brother. I spent the next hour trying to scrub the memory of his hands off my skin, but it was pointless. By the time my mom knocked on my door to remind me about the trust fund signing, I felt like I was walking through a nightmare. "You look pale, honey," my mom said as we walked into the massive, glass-fronted lobby of Sterling Corp. She reached out to adjust the collar of my blouse. "Are you sure you're not coming down with something? And wh

I stood in the middle of my massive, ridiculously opulent bedroom, staring at the heavy oak door like it was about to burst into flames. Arthur had told me to leave it unlocked, and I had done exactly what he said, my fingers trembling so badly I could barely turn the brass knob. Now, I was just pacing the plush carpet, my heart hammering a frantic, sickening rhythm against my ribs. The air in the room felt thick, suffocating, and every time the floorboards creaked out in the hallway, my breath hitched in my throat. I was wearing nothing but the thin, ribbed-knit burgundy dress and a scrap of black lace underneath.I had tried to pull the neckline up, tried to smooth the fabric down over my thick thighs, but it was pointless. The dress clung to every soft curve, every heavy swell of my chest, leaving absolutely nothing to the imagination. Then, the doorknob turned. It wasn’t a loud sound, but in the dead silence of the room, it sounded like a gunshot. The door swung open slowly

  • The Step father and His plus size obsession    Chapter 6

I thought the study was going to be where Arthur finally broke me and claimed what he thought was his, but it turned out to be the library that nearly ruined my sanity instead. When I finally worked up the nerve to walk down the hall and knock on Arthur’s heavy oak door, his deep voice immediately barked from the other side, telling me he was on a crucial call and to wait in the library until he was finished. So, I retreated down the dimly lit corridor, my heart still hammering a frantic rhythm against my ribs from the way his hand had bruised my thigh under the dinner table. I pushed open the double doors to the library, expecting it to be empty, but the sharp clink of ice against glass made me freeze. Leo was standing by the mahogany bar in the corner, a crystal tumbler of amber liquid in his hand. He had ditched his suit jacket, and his white dress shirt was unbuttoned halfway down his chest, the sleeves rolled up to reveal thick, corded forearms. He looked like a completely
