Chapter 65

I woke up that morning in the best mood I’d ever been in weeks. My cheeks still felt sore from all that smiling I did last night, as the phone call I had with Aaron continued ringing in my head like my favourite song.

I still couldn't believe that Aaron called me, and it wasn't to scold or admonish me, but to check up on me. We talked. I couldn't believe it. He said he’d call again. I looked forward to it.

I wondered when he’d call, morning, afternoon, or night? Regardless, I had my phone by my side at all times, not failing to check it every time to see if I missed a call.

Even Davina, the interior designer noticed.

“Do you need to make an important call ma'am? You can go ahead, we will just continue later” she said.

I shook my head at her with a smile. “I’m just expecting a call, but let's continue regardless,” I said.

The decoration was going smoothly. My room had magically transformed from a plain lifeless guestroom to something heavenly and homely.

The once plain cream walls had

  • The Stranger I Met On The Altar   I had to see her

AARON’S POVI sat at the edge of my hotel bed, fully dressed in my tux, staring at the clock ticking. My next meeting was in less than an hour, and I should have left now if I wanted to be there early.I was never late for a meeting. But I wasn't interested in the meeting. I wasn't thinking about the outcome of the meeting or the strategies I had to put into place to score the investors. All I could think about was her.Elizabeth.I had planned to return home days ago, but each day, something new came up. If it wasn't another board meeting it was a last-minute investor call or a dinner with a stubborn partner. I pushed my return again and again. At first, it made sense, because business first, always. This wasn't the first time I was extending my trip based on business. But this time, it didn't feel right. Something kept pulling me home.I couldn't explain it at first. I told myself I was just tired, and that I needed a break. But deep down, I knew the truth.I missed her.I didn't kn

Aaron called back at night, as promised. My heart leaped for joy as I saw his name on the screen and I picked faster than I blinked. The call was long, warm, and refreshing.I had sent him a video of my room earlier and he replied with; ‘Davina is really good at her job’I guess that was his way of saying the room looked beautiful. The message had sounded formal as if he were talking to his business partner, but I didn't mind. It was the first time we were texting anyway. The way he had loosened up talking to me over the phone, he would definitely loosen up with texting soon.I asked how his day was, and he answered me. I asked what he had for dinner and he told me, he asked me as well and I told him I had some grilled shrimp and salad that Heather had made.“You didn't have your usual pasta today?” he asked. He noticed.I smiled, no, I added another layer of smile to the one I already had before I replied to him.“No, I decided to try something different. But I'm definitely having pa

  • The Stranger I Met On The Altar   Phone call and butterflies

ELIZABETH’S POVThe interior designer and I discussed what I wanted for my room, and she got to work immediately. I was so excited and touched that Aaron had taken into consideration my complaint about the room and immediately sent a designer to correct it.It made my heart flutter, he wasn't so bad anyway, and it made me like him even more.I had to temporarily move to another room while the designer worked on mine, I toyed with the idea of sleeping in Aaron’s room since he wasn't here but I killed the idea real quick. Let's not push boundaries. So I took another room.I stared at his number saved to my phone as “Husband Jerk” and wondered if I could call, or text… to thank him and maybe also check up on him. Was I even allowed to do that? I didn't want to come off desperate or eager for his attention.“If I just send a thank you text, it wouldn't be that bad would it?” I asked out loud to myself.“I mean I should say thank you. Or should I just wait for him to get back? He's getting

  • The Stranger I Met On The Altar   About Vivienne

VIVIENNE’S POVIf Aaron thought he could easily toss me aside, he was in for something else!I flung my phone across the room angrily.“Fuck!” I cursed. I dialled Aaron’s number sixty-seven times, but it kept redirecting to voicemail. My texts were not responded to either. He had changed, I could tell. He didn't treat me badly, and still provided all my needs but he barely gave me any attention anymore. He was still as generous as ever, for example, I'm currently in Mauritius and I've been shopping heavily with his credit card.Aaron and I were doing good, but everything started going wrong when his father suddenly called one day and requested to see me.Now I knew his parents never liked me, it was evident, but I didn't give a fuck honestly, I didn't need them.During my meeting with his father that day, he had wasted no time in reminding me that i was no match for his son and that i was nothing but an opportunist and a gold digger, and when i tried to challenge him, he spilled wine

“What did you have in mind when you suggested this?” I asked, still annoyed.“You choose”I scoffed. “You are so annoying,” I said, taking deep breaths to calm down so the next thing I say would be calm. “I wanted to talk, laugh, and maybe even drink a little. The way Ryan and I used to, it's been so boring in the house since he and Taylor left and when you suggested this, I got too excited. I forgot for a moment that you are who you are,” I said then ended it with a hiss.“And that is?”“Huh?”“Who do you think I am?”“A grumpy arrogant bore” I replied sharply. He nodded. “Teach me”“What?”“Teach me to be the way you want and how to do the things you want to do,” he said very calmly and seriously. My eyes flickered in surprise. “Really?”He stated plainly at me, the stare that was usually his way of affirmation.“Do you know how to keep up with a conversation?”“I try,” he drawled lazily.“Then let's talk”“Why did you and Noah break up? And most importantly, why is he still in you
