Chapter 6

Author: Grace Heal
The werewolf in the private room suddenly pulled the door open. He dragged me in and threw me to the ground.

When I turned around, I saw Ethan and the twin pups standing there, looking shocked.

Helena suddenly burst into loud sobs and threw herself into Ethan’s arms.

“Ethan,” she cried.

“It’s all her. She planned this to hurt me! She wouldn’t believe we were just friends. She even had me drink the Wolfsbane Lust Potion! She said that she needed to watch me be ruined by another werewolf.”

She wiped her tears and showed Ethan the scratches on her shoulder.

“You came just in time, or I would have…”

I interrupted her.

“I didn’t do any of this! Ethan, your driver brought me here just now. He said you were waiting for me here. I had no idea…”

At that moment, the driver walked in immediately.

“Luna, why do you lie to our Alpha? It was you who insisted I drive you here! You said the Alpha would soon be here to watch a good show. Now you’re framing me for this, are you?”

The werewolf in the room knelt before Ethan and pointed at me, “That’s right! You told me to sleep with this she-wolf. If I had known she was the Alpha’s friend, how could I have dared to do this? Wouldn’t I be asking for death?”

Ethan looked at me. He didn’t believe me. Then I could tell he was disappointed.

“Even if you were jealous, you shouldn’t have done something so disgusting to Helena. You know what it’s like to be drugged! You know the harm it does! You still chose to use the same trick on Helena… She is still an innocent werewolf. You’re too cruel.”

I couldn’t say a word. Even if I told him the truth, he wouldn’t have listen.

He stared at me and said, “I’ll teach you a lesson today. You harm others, and you will be punished in the end.”

He called over the werewolf kneeling nearby, “You. I’ll give you a chance to make it up to Helena.”

I was in shock. “What are you going to do, Ethan? You can’t treat me like this!”

“I’m not as awful as you, using those cheap tricks.” Then he ordered the werewolf, “Stand up and slap her face. Hard. Don’t stop until I say so.”

The werewolf climbed to his feet. He glanced at Ethan. Ethan was serious about it.

Then, the werewolf raised his hand and began slapping me.

I lost count of how many times he had slapped me, but my face was swollen. Blood was coming down from the corner of my mouth, mixing with my tears.

My cheekbones hurt so bad, I couldn’t even move them.

The pain was mine alone.

None of these werewolves in the room cared. Not my Alpha, my twin pups. They all watched me being slapped, but none of them stopped it.

Ethan held Helena in his arms and said, “Let’s go to the healing center. They have the antidote for you. You will be fine.”

But Helena wouldn’t let the moment go. She clung to Ethan’s neck and kissed him. She leaned over to Ethan and whispered in his ear, “No, I only need you.”

Helena pressed her lips to his. Ethan looked surprised. I saw him start to push her away, but in the end, he gave in.

With his strength, he could have pushed her off. He just didn’t want to.

Finally, Ethan gave in to his lusts. He lifted Helena and carried her to the private room, closing the door behind them. Their sounds of their intimacy drifted through the door.

Ethan and Helena…

I touched my face. It needed treatment immediately. The pain was almost unbearable.

From the corner of my eye, I saw Joe and Eva whispering to each other. They were even speaking in Italian.

At home, they would sometimes use Italian to keep me from understanding what they were saying.

“Great,” Joe said. “Helena told me to put that potion in daddy’s coffee. It worked! They kissed!”

Eva nodded. “Helena said this way, we’ll have smart little siblings soon.”

I froze, staring at them in shock.

I had secretly learned Italian because I knew they loved speaking it, so I could understand them when they used it. But I had never imagined this.

Helena was drugged with the Wolfsbane Lust Potion. Helena had the pups put the potion into Ethan’s coffee.

Helena had manipulated these young twin pups.

Joe and Eva must have sensed something went wrong. They came over.

“Mommy, don’t be sad. We believe it wasn’t you!”

“About the necklace last time, we’re sorry. We were wrong.”

Their apology was so practiced, so insincere.

I even wanted to laugh.

“It’s fine,” I said. “I’m not angry at all.”

These twin pups were not worth a single bit of my energy.

They stood in front of me and switched back to Italian.

“Mommy is so stupid. She fell for it again!”

“She loves us so much, she’ll never get mad! Remember? Helena always says mommy is like our dog.”

“Right. Mommy is our dog! Helena is so nice, she teaches us many things.”

I watched them saying this, but I didn’t say a word.

So this was how Helena taught them.

Italian, with its beautiful tones, sounded so ugly coming from both of them.

And there was one more thing, Helena still had no idea these twin pups were her own.

If she knew Joe and Eva were her biological pups, would she still treat them this way?

It was a voice I knew too well.I didn’t even need to turn around to know who it was. Ethan. That was the werewolf I once loved most. How could I not recognize his voice? But everything was in the past. Now, Ethan and I had nothing to do with each other, and he was the last werewolf I wanted to see.I took Ben’s hand and tried to leave without saying a word to him, but Ethan chased after me and blocked my path.Ethan looked at me.“Lila, I have finally found you. Do you know how long I have been searching?”I stared at his face. He was unshaven. He looked exhausted and even had a few strands of gray hair.He looked at me and forced a smile. “You seem to be doing well. But do you know how I’ve been? It’s not fair of you to leave like this.”His voice was shaking.“Unfair?” I scoffed. “You think that’s funny? Unfair to you?”I could see the guilt in his eyes. He lowered his head.“I’m sorry, Lila. It’s all my fault. Tricking you into carrying Helena’s child… I was wrong. I’ll spend my li

  • The Substitute Luna   Chapter 14

The day I decided to leave Ethan, I went straight to Lightning City.I had always wanted to see it, but never had the chance. After leaving my home, I had moved straight into Ethan’s house. No time for travels, no chance to see the things I had dreamed of.My bank account still had hundreds of millions of dollars. Ethan had always been generous, and the investments my advisors managed had grown into a fortune over six years.I had planned to set it aside as an education fund for the twin pups, but now there was no need.Ethan owed me this.I had been tricked into carrying Helena’s pups, and I had spent five years as a babysitter for free. What to do next? I hadn’t decided. First, I needed to find myself again. In Lightning City, my first move was to give my ID and a stack of cash to a homeless she-wolf on the street. I wanted to make sure that if Ethan came looking for me, he wouldn’t find me.I bathed in waterfalls in my wolf form, and wandered in the stunning canyons. But the pain li

Ethan thought that Lila had come back! She had forgiven him!But when he pulled back to look at her, he froze. It wasn’t Lila at all, it was just Helena.Helena tried to kiss him, but Ethan stepped back. He stopped her.“Why are you even here?” His voice was filled with disappointment.“What? Do you hate me now, Ethan?” Helena couldn’t make sense of what was going on with Ethan. She had thought Ethan loved Lila’s style, so she had put on Lila’s nightgown, styled her hair like Lila’s, even sprayed Lila’s perfume. Why did he still reject her?Ethan pushed Helena away impatiently.“Helena, how many times do I have to say it? There’s no way we can be together. You said you understood that my feelings for you were gone. That was why I trusted you with the twin pups. But you are still crossing the line. If this is how it is going to be, we shouldn’t speak again. I won’t have Lila misunderstanding this thing with you. Please leave my house. I will send someone to pick up the twin pups.”Ethan

Eva froze, then burst into tears. “My hair! That’s my favorite thing in the world!”Eva had always cherished her hair, growing it long since she had been born. Lila was always taking care of it. Now it lay on the floor.Joe ran over and picked up the hair. He begged Helena, “Helena, Eva loves her hair so much! Fix it, please! I know you can!”Helena smiled. She was actually satisfied with what she had done. The more the twin pups suffered, the more she felt she had taken revenge on Lila.“I think Eva looks better like this. Long hair takes too much time to fix. I’m not like your mommy. I won’t braid it for you.”In that moment, the twin pups just wanted to go home and see their mommy.Joe and Eva couldn’t hold back their tears anymore.“Mommy! We want our mommy! We want to go home! We hate it here!”Helena looked as if she was disgusted by them. “You two are just like your mommy, so useless! So annoying. Your mommy has been abandoned by your dad. She is also broke. Your mother is so st

The twin pups were playing with toys on the floor when Helena walked up to them.Joe looked up and asked, “Helena, what are we having for dinner? I’m so hungry.”Helena took out some snacks, sweets and cakes.“You two can have these for dinner. I won’t tell your daddy.”Joe frowned and said, “But Eva and I have been eating these every day lately. We don’t want these anymore! Can you make us the Forest Stew? You know, even our mommy can make this dish. She is so stupid.”Eva nodded and said, “Yeah, Helena. We really want to eat the Forest Stew. Can you make it, please?”The twin pups started to miss their mommy’s cooking. These days at Helena’s place, they had barely had any proper meals. Helena offered them desserts, processed foods and many snacks.“Your mommy is a housewife, that’s why she can cook. But I, Helena, have my own career. I don’t have time to cook. You two are good pups, you will understand, right?”Helena’s voice was gentle, but there was an obvious hatred beneath it.Th

  • The Substitute Luna   Chapter 10

Ethan stared at the mate bond termination agreement. His hands suddenly trembled. This wasn’t like him at all. The signature on the document was clearly his own, but when had this happened? He shoved Helena away and rushed out the door.He drove straight to the Werewolf Council. He found the elders inside.“When did you all sign this? What does this even mean? Is this real?”One elder stepped forward, “Yes. A month ago, Lila requested the termination of your mate bond and to step down as your Luna. You signed it yourself. We assumed you were aware. As of today, it is fully effective. You two are no longer mates.”“What? A month ago?” Ethan couldn’t believe it. How could he have known nothing about this?Lila loved him so much. How could she leave him? And when had he signed this?Suddenly, he remembered the document Lila had asked him to sign, claiming it was for purchasing a shop. That must have been it.Ethan called his assistant immediately.“Check if Lila has bought any property t
