My steps wavered as a frown slowly etched itself between my brows, the smile I wore earlier, fading off with the gentle breeze of the evening as the words dropped from her lips.

The downgrading way she referred to me washed off every ounce of politeness I once had in me.

Before I could say anything, her voice came up again, cold, biting. “You don't have to introduce yourself. I know who you are already— the one pining for the position of a Luna,” she said, voice dripping with disgust as she stared at me from my bare feet to the loose dress I had on. I felt a sting at her tone, but pushed it aside. “I’m sorry but I didn’t catch your name,” I said, still trying to be polite and respectful.
