Chapter 3

ผู้เขียน: Aero
The moment the woman laid eyes on that moonstone bracelet, tears streamed down her face.

"Alaric, when the Crescent Moon Pack was besieged on all sides and you were pushed to the very edge of death, I buried this bracelet at the bottom of the lake."

"I had worn it since childhood. I offered it to the Moon Goddess and begged her to lend me her fortune to keep you safe."

"I lay in a coma for seven days and seven nights. That was the price I paid for the Crescent Moon Pack's victory when all hope seemed lost."

Alaric went rigid, his eyes flooding with tenderness. He bent down and gathered the woman carefully into his arms.

"Felicity. I'm the one who wronged you."

Coralie saw her opening and seized it, thrusting a finger in my face.

"What do you have to say for yourself now?"

"You abused Alaric's trust and threw the entire Crescent Moon Pack into chaos. What exactly are you trying to accomplish?"

Even Ethan and Lucius exchanged a glance, their eyes clouded with conflict and doubt.

The bracelet was indeed a treasure Felicity had carried out of the orphanage.

Whoever was behind this had planned with terrifying depth, unearthing something so old and so personal just to muddy the waters.

I stared at the moonstone bracelet in cold silence, my fingers moving slowly across the tarot cards in my palm.

"A trinket proves nothing. It is hardly ironclad evidence."

Coralie's composure snapped entirely.

"Someone remove this witch before she poisons anyone else with her lies!"

Several warriors began to move. Alaric stepped in front of me again.

"Coralie. I have said it before. Without Nova, I would have died ten years ago."

"If she wants to search, I will turn the Crescent Moon Pack upside down to let her."

The two pups swiftly returned to my side and fixed the surrounding warriors with cold, steady stares.

The woman sat in her wheelchair, her expression layered with patience and quiet sorrow.

"Nova, I know your gift is real. But even the stars can be clouded by dark energy sometimes."

"If you still aren't satisfied, I have one more way to prove who I am."

She turned to look at Coralie.

"Go to the nearest lottery outlet. Buy an entire booklet of scratch cards."

Coralie didn't understand, but she sent someone immediately without question.

Fifteen minutes later, a brand-new booklet of scratch cards lay on the stone table.

The woman picked up a coin and scratched the first one open without any particular ceremony.

"Jackpot. One million dollars."

The moment the warrior read the number aloud, the entire crowd drew a sharp breath.

She didn't stop. She scratched open five cards in a row. Every single one was a major prize.

That staggering, heaven-defying magnetism for wealth was identical to Felicity's, down to the last detail.

Ethan and Lucius both exhaled with visible relief, the wariness draining from their eyes as they looked at the woman again, replaced by the old familiar trust.

I watched her performance in silence. The cold in my eyes deepened with every passing second.

Without hesitation, I bit down on the tip of my tongue. Blood sprayed across three cards.

My vision darkened at the edges. Blood seeped from the corner of my mouth.

Alaric lurched toward me in alarm, reaching out to steady me. I drove him back with a sharp command.

The blood-soaked tarot cards erupted in a dark radiance invisible to ordinary eyes, and it pointed with absolute precision to the abandoned old palace deep within the altar grounds.

I wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth. My voice was ice.

"The rear courtyard of the old palace. The dry well."

The color drained from Alaric's face the instant I said it.

That well had been sealed for decades, filled with nothing but layers of rotted silt and refuse.

My Felicity. How could she have been left in a place like that, sunless and forgotten?

Alaric broke into a run toward the old palace, not even stopping to bring warriors with him. Everyone rushed to follow.

A massive stone slab had been laid over the mouth of the well. Warriors pried it loose with iron rods, then lowered safety ropes and began digging.

Alaric gripped the edge of the well with both hands, his entire body trembling beyond his control.

Half an hour later, a shout rose from the bottom.

"Alpha. We found something."

A skeleton wrapped in black mud was slowly hauled to the surface.

On the right shoulder blade, there was a distinct and unmistakable gap in the bone.

Alaric's legs gave out beneath him. He dropped straight to his knees in the mud.

He reached out a trembling hand, then stopped just an inch from the bones, unable to bring himself to touch them.

"Felicity."

Both children's eyes went red. They clenched their jaws and held the sound inside, refusing to let it break free.

I stared at the skeleton with absolute focus.

Something was wrong.

The impression was faint, and the energy surrounding the bones was far too tangled.

I spun to face Alaric.

"Get your best Healer here. Analyze these bones. Now."

Alaric snapped back to himself, a thin thread of hope reigniting in his eyes.

"Call them. Tell the Crescent Moon Pack's head Healer to come immediately."

Thirty minutes later, the Healer arrived carrying precision instruments, and conducted a full series of examinations on the remains.

"Alpha. The pelvic structure of these bones is narrow and deep."

"Based on the full range of skeletal anatomy present..."

The Healer swallowed hard. Even their voice was unsteady.

"These... these are the remains of an adult male werewolf."

Silence crashed over the scene.

These were not Felicity's bones at all.

The liquid enveloping Felicity began to churn violently. The white light that blazed from it was sharp enough to force every eye shut. I kept mine open, fixed on the center of that light, and I could hear it, a faint, almost cheerful hum rising from within. Beneath it, I could feel something, a vivid, urgent life force growing wilder and stronger with every passing moment.Time lost its shape. Then, at last, the white light began to thin and draw back.A woman lay quietly on the stone floor, unclothed, completely still. Her chest rose and fell."Felicity..."I pulled off my outer robe, crossed to her in a few quick steps, and wrapped it tightly around her. At the contact, her living warmth and that steady, real heartbeat undid me completely. I couldn't hold back the sting behind my eyes any longer.I held her and wept without restraint.Alaric crossed the floor in two strides and pulled both of us into his arms. A low, muffled sound pressed up from somewhere deep in his chest.Ethan

Silver light flooded the sky, blotting out everything above. The abyss that had been thick with the stench of death filled with vitality in an instant. The aura of an enormous white wolf poured in from every direction and wrapped itself around the canyon like a sheltering hand.Alaric and the two pups were driven flat to the ground by the crushing weight of that presence, unable to lift their heads. The warriors around them simply lost consciousness where they stood.Only I remained upright, sitting where I was. When the figure emerged slowly from within the silver light, the tears I had been holding back finally broke free."Sweet Tea..."She wore robes of pure white, like an angel who had simply forgotten to unfold her wings. The face was breathtaking and carried within it something divine and severe. It was Elias, the old matron of our orphanage.Elias walked up to me and flicked me in the center of the forehead, unbothered as ever."What are you crying for?""You're an embarrassm

I closed my eyes and drew a slow, deep breath.Ten years.Since the day I rewrote Alaric's fate, I had not touched the power that ran through my Moon Goddess bloodline. The cost was too great, and the margin for error was nothing. One misstep, and the divine would turn on me with everything it had.But today, anyone who dared lay a hand on my oldest friend would not live to see the ground they were buried in.My eyes snapped open. Two beams of silver light blazed out from my pupils.A wave of divine pressure detonated from somewhere inside me. The entire canyon shuddered. The dense black clouds packed overhead were torn apart as though something had driven a fist straight through them. The arrogance on Malachi's face froze solid and was replaced by something rawer. Pure terror."What... what is this power?"He threw everything he had into the staff, trying to hold the pillar of light steady. It made no difference. Against the weight of the Moon Goddess's authority, his tricks amount

Darkness fell.Dozens of off-road vehicles rolled out of the New Moon Tribe and drove east, straight toward Black Rose Pack territory.Alaric sat in the front passenger seat, his expression still as standing water, both hands locked around a modified shotgun.Ethan and Lucius sat in the back, running whetstones and cloths along their blades and checking their sidearms.Ten years of elite warrior training had shaped them into what they were tonight. Now that training had a purpose.I had lived deep in the forest all this time, but these two had found their way to me every year, staying several months. I had offered more prayers to the Moon Goddess on their behalf than I could count, asking her to keep them safe and let their lives be good ones. The convoy halted at the entrance to Black Rose Pack territory.A thick darkness swallowed the entire canyon. Not even moonlight could find its way in. Along both sides of the path, white totemic banners had been driven into the earth, each on

Elara stared at the blood running from my wrist. For a moment she looked almost startled. Then the sneer spread back across her face."What is this? Trying to frighten me with a little bloodletting?""Save yourself the trouble, Nova. You could bleed out completely and it still wouldn't break the covenant."I paid her no mind. I dipped my fingers in the blood and moved quickly, tracing a complex star formation across the stone."By the Moon Goddess's guidance, let the stellar paths reverse."I drove my palm down onto the center of the array.A golden light, invisible to the naked eye, exploded upward from the formation and shot straight for the center of Elara's brow. The color drained from her face. She felt it now, and she knew something had gone very wrong. The force was merciless. It followed no logic and obeyed no rule. It simply severed the bond between her and the infant, clean and absolute."Ahhh!"The scream that tore from Elara's throat was raw and wretched. She pitched from t

"Elias?"I repeated the name softly, the corner of my mouth curling upward."The old director of the orphanage, Elias, presented herself to the world as a kindly granny. But only we knew the truth."As children, Felicity and I had always been curious about the mysterious Elias. One day we crept into her sitting room, and found a black cat sprawled lazily on a velvet sofa, its belly rising and falling with each slow breath. Then, in an instant, those half-shut eyes snapped open. Golden pupils contracted to a thin sliver in the light, fixing their gaze on us.Felicity and I froze where we stood, hardly daring to breathe. But Elias only padded softly down from the sofa, brushed her fluffy head against my leg, and somehow produced two cups from nowhere. The scent of tea drifted into the air.It tasted sweet and warm. Her voice was the same as always, soft and gentle, as if nothing had happened at all."Elias loved her tea. We called her Sweet Tea."It was a name only we had for her, never
