Chapter 6

Author: Pumpkin Paste
In the dimly lit room of a jacuzzi hotel, Susan was gyrating her hips as she straddled Chuck gleefully.

"It's just us tonight again…" she purred with devilish charm.

Somehow, Chuck couldn't get interested—the sight of Susan's face kept reminding him of Lisa's pale face somehow.

As Susan kept pressing herself on him, he pushed her away irritably.

"Ah!" she yelped as she fell backward into the jacuzzi, the huge splash finally catching Chuck's attention, and he turned.

Her cleavage was clear for all to see, while her wet hair was clinging to her neck and chest.

Chuck couldn't tear his eyes away from her skin, which was reddened from the hot water.

Seeing him gulp as his eyes lit up, Susan in his eyes, she fought back the petty resentment in her heart and pressed against him enthusiastically.

Soon, his grunts and her moans echoed around the room.

Even as Susan wrapped her arms around Chuck's neck, her eyes glinted maliciously where he couldn't see.

Sooner or later, she would make Chuck completely forget about Lisa!

-

The next morning, Chuck returned home after much hesitation and was absolutely stunned when he opened the front door.

Most of Lisa's belongings that she kept in the living room had disappeared, and there was a pile of paper scraps on the floor next to the dining table.

Chuck felt a foreboding sensation even as he rushed over to pick them up, and he had barely pieced them together when he paused, shocked by the bold letters that read 'marriage certificate.'

The photo was torn down the middle, and Chuck couldn't piece them together no matter how hard he tried.

And it felt just like how his marriage with Lisa couldn't be mended..

Stricken by panic and disbelief, he realized right then Lisa was really going to divorce him—that was why she had even torn up the marriage certificate!

Still, he looked around, muttering to himself, "No, we're not divorced yet! I'll just have them reissue the marriage certificate, and then apologize to Lisa. She'll definitely forgive me..."

With that in mind, he whipped out his phone and called the Civil Affairs Bureau.

The clerk on the other end of the phone listened to his request and assured him, "It's alright, Mr. Smith. As long as you're legally married, the marriage certificate can be reissued."

Chuck breathed a huge sigh of relief, and he gave the clerk his and Lisa's ID numbers as asked.

After a while, the clerk asked hesitantly, "Mr. Smith… Are you sure you're legally married to Ms. Adams?"

Chuck was stunned, and his heart began to pound violently. "Yes, we are. We registered at the civil affairs office down Basti Road."

"But you were never registered as married," the clerk replied. "As for Ms. Adams, she was registered as married to a Mr. Locke seven years ago, although that was officially delisted just five days ago too."

Chuck's mind went blank. What the clerk said was simply ridiculous!

"How can that be?!" he exclaimed. "I have our marriage certificate right here in my hands, and we've definitely been married for three years! How can we be unregistered?! Is it some clerical error?"

"Sir, the bureau's registration system is online 24/7 nationwide. It's impossible for any clerical error to last that long…"

The clerk then suggested hesitantly and awkwardly, "However, may I ask you to examine the photo on the certificate? Genuine marriage certificates will always have a watermark imprinted on each photo…"

Chuck stared blankly at the photo on the certificate for a moment.

Not about to give up, he brushed a finger over it, but it was smooth and showed no hint of a watermark!

His and Lisa's marriage certificate was fake!

Lisa retched as the stench of gasoline filled her nostrils, but she kept staring fixedly at Chuck as she demanded, "What do you think you're doing?!"Chuck shrugged as he held a lighter in one hand and spread gasoline all over the floor with the other. He smiled at her. "I've been doing some thinking—even if I lock you up here, I'll always be worried that you'll escape sooner or later. So why not just die together instead of doubting each other like this?"Yeah… Let's die right here, in this house that I so painstakingly decorated. Our bodies will melt together as one, and no one can come between us ever again…"Even as Lisa felt the chill down her spine, she stared fixedly at Chuck's right hand in case he accidentally dropped the lighter. However, he seemed to read her mind, and he threw the lighter outside the door and closed it.As the blazing heat swirled and flames danced outside the door, stifling black smoke started seeping through various cracks.Lisa promptly wet a towe

Susan was rushed to the hospital as soon as the crew got off the cruise ship. But she lost her child, and she was so ill herself that she almost didn't survive surgery. However, once she recovered, what awaited her was criminal charges and an indefinite jail term.On the other hand, Lisa had made enough connections at the cruise dinner and was ready to return to Europe per Ian's guidance. From now on, she'd never return unless it was necessary. On the way to the airport, a violent gale flipped over her car, and she passed out in agony. When she opened her eyes again, she frowned as she found herself back in a very familiar place. It was identical to the old bedroom she shared with Chuck. Everything, from the bed to the cupboards, down to the curtain color and floor tiles, was the exact same as the house she had lived in for three years. The only difference was that even the things she had taken with her when she left had returned. It was a creepy sight that left her feeling lik

Lisa woke up to many unread texts on her phone.Fighting against her throbbing headache, she immediately spotted an apology sent from the cruise crew manager. After many sincere apologies, they told her that they had found the culprit and asked her to go to the office on the main deck at her earliest convenience.Lisa quickly cleaned up before heading to the office, where she found herself staring at a familiar face."Susan Smith," she breathed the name softly, her expression as cold as ice.The manager was stunned for a second, quickly catching on that there was history between the two women.Still, he said, "That's her, Ms. Adams. She stole a set of janitor's uniform and tried to blend in as a janitor, and we have evidence she slipped something in your champagne. However, she hasn't said anything since we caught her, and she's just sitting there. We didn't get rough or do much else with her since she's pregnant…"Susan finally looked up, glaring at Lisa resentfully as she wait

"Ah…"Hearing a strange moan just ahead, Chuck slowly looked up to find a familiar figure. It was Lisa, and she looked sick, barely standing as she leaned against the hallway wallChuck was at once worried, running to her side and asking anxiously, "What's wrong? Are you okay, Lisa?"Lisa's pupils were darting everywhere, her cheeks flushed, and her eyes watery, clearly in a state of arousal.Chuck couldn't help gulping even as he felt a little joy inside. He had no idea who had drugged Lisa, but he was the only person in the cruise ship who had been physically intimate with Lisa as of now.He was undoubtedly the best choice to help! Moreover, marriage should never fall apart over a single quarrel. Who knew if he might stand a chance if he bailed Lisa out of this crisis…With that in mind, Chuck eagerly helped Lisa to his room, only for Lisa to suddenly grab a waiter who was just passing by!The waiter was tall and slender, not to mention good looking—just the sight of him le

Lisa smiled and nodded, her tone calm as she said, "Yes, he's my ex-husband."Despite Laura's shock, her eyes twinkled briefly in curiosity as she looked between Lisa and Chuck.Eventually, she smiled in understanding. "Oh, isn't that something… But I have to say, despite your keen judgement when it comes to work, Ms. Adams, your judgment of men falls short… a little."Chuck stood there awkwardly, silent as a statue. He knew that this was never going to be easy—everyone on this cruise ship was a rich and powerful individual, and he would never reach their level in this life. And Laura was a prominent figure even among their company, so he could hardly afford to offend her.Hence, despite Laura clearly siding with Lisa and mocking him as everyone watched, Chuck was still afraid to so much as purse his lips. That was when Laura finally took his business card and turned to throw it into a nearby bin.Powerless to stop that, Chuck left, stepping out to the deck to get some fresh ai

With those words, Lisa left as Chuck stood there, stunned. In reality, azoospermia was something she had made up on the fly, but the baby in Susan's belly might not necessarily be Chuck's anyway. After all, she saw Susan getting more than a little friendly with another man the day after she returned to the country. As for what the story was between them, Chuck could find out at his own leisure. What happened between them after that was none of Lisa's business.-Lisa stood by Ian's side during the cruise dinner, smiling and greeting other bigwigs from time to time.Ian never spoke more than necessary, but everyone present was smart enough to tell that he was vouching for Lisa, making a few remarks, and they were keen to know more about her. Before long, she must have mingled with more than a few groups of them as she glided busily among their ranks. And in a quiet corner, Chuck was tugging on his own sleeve nervously. His boss was really prepared to fire him on short notice a
