I was about to sit up to massage my muscles, but Misty and Landon entered the warehouse again. Closing my eyes, I pretend to be asleep. I could hear them approaching me, neither of them speaking.

I listened to their movements and did my best to keep my breathing even and my heart rate under control. It sounded like one of them was going in a different direction while the other continued approaching. I silently prayed that they would continue to think I was still passed out.

A short time later, something rattled the cage, and I couldn’t help but flinch. Hoping they didn’t notice, I continued to keep my eyes closed. Again, the kennel was hit by something, but I didn’t react this time.
