Chapter 2

Once I got home, I sat motionless on the couch all day, waiting until late into the night before William and Martha finally returned.

However, William ignored me, despite my visibly sullen mood, and headed straight for the bedroom. The emotions I had been holding in all day finally erupted.

I stepped right in front of him and raised my voice, demanding, "You owe me an explanation, William!"

He simply glanced at me, his brows furrowing impatiently. "An explanation for what? It's exactly what you saw."

I was stunned by his unapologetic attitude. "So he's your child? You had a child with Kayla Reynolds?"

My voice trembled as I asked the question. Meanwhile, William's expression remained perfectly calm.

"It was an accident. Just pretend you never found out."

He tugged at his tie and tried to walk past me, but I grabbed his arm, refusing to back down.

Martha immediately yanked my hand away from him and snapped angrily, "Enough! William has had a long day. Let him rest! Do you think you could live such a comfortable life if it weren't for my son? What right do you have to question him, huh?

"You're the one who spent all your time tending to your sickly daughter, forcing my son to endure countless lonely nights. He had no one to take care of him when he got home!

"If it hadn't been for that, he wouldn't have been taken home by another woman after he got drunk. You should be reflecting on yourself right now!"

I needed to reflect on myself?

What was I supposed to reflect upon? The fact that I was such a fool? That it'd taken me this long to find out that my husband had cheated on me?

Or was I supposed to reflect on how stupid it was for me to devote myself to taking care of Martha when she was very ill? The fact that I'd even suggested that she move in with us, which allowed her to stand here and pin everything on me now?

Before I knew it, tears were streaming down my face.

William sighed, as though he were dealing with an immature child. "Holly, Kayla and Andy's existence won't affect your life. Just turn a blind eye to it and let it go. Plenty of wives do that."

That made me snort.

Had William forgotten that he was the one who'd held me close in that old rented apartment, promising that even if he made his wealth, he would be devoted to me for the rest of his life? It hadn't been very long since he found his success. Had he already wiped his memory of all those promises?

"And if I refuse to accept this situation?" I wiped the tears from the corners of my eyes, doing my best to preserve the last shred of my dignity.

William merely gave me another indifferent look. "If you still want to be my wife, I suggest you accept it."

With that, he brushed past me.

I stood frozen in place for a long time. Finally, I curled my lips into a bitter smile and murmured to myself, "William, I'm done being your wife."
