Chapter 4

Autor: Sea Salt Ice
By the time I frantically rushed to Ivy's grave, all that remained was an empty plot.

Even her headstone had been broken in half, and the framed photo of Ivy I'd left at her grave had been scratched until her face was completely disfigured.

I collapsed onto the ground, my entire body trembling and my mind going blank. It took me a long time to regain my senses. When I did, I finally called William.

"William, where did you take my daughter?"

"You scared Andy so badly that he almost choked. This is your punishment," he said coldly. "Besides, Ivy was just a kid. She doesn't need to be buried in such a lavish cemetery. She'll do just fine in the old cemetery in the suburbs."

Once he finished saying his piece, he dropped the call.

I hurried toward the suburbs, only to find a headstone bearing Ivy's name beside a bunch of dumpsters in the most remote corner of the cemetery.

As anguish and grief racked through me, I slowly dug out Ivy's urn with my bare hands. I dug so hard that blood seeped from beneath my fingernails, but I didn't care.

Once I was done, I cradled the urn against my chest and said comfortingly, "Everything's fine now, Ivy. I'm sorry I came too late. Let's get you out of here."

Just then, my phone started ringing. The caller was Bernard Stewart, one of William's uncles who was still living with the rest of the extended family back in their hometown.

"Holly, William said something about wanting the family back home to prepare for a celebration dinner to welcome a new family member? He didn't tell me what arrangements to make, though. Since he's always so busy, I didn't want to disturb him, so I had to call you about it instead," Bernard explained.

The corners of my lips twitched.

Over the years, William had been too busy with work to deal with his relatives, so I had always handled the Stewart family's matters for him. As a result, his relatives back home had grown accustomed to coming to me for everything.

I was going to tell Bernard everything and cut ties with the Stewarts on the spot. Then a thought came to me, and I decided to go down a different route.

"Don't worry about it, Uncle Bernard. I'll have someone go over there and make all the arrangements."

After ending the call, I went back to the house and grabbed my luggage. Then I smashed every piece of furniture and appliance in the house.

Over the years, I'd poured my heart into maintaining the house, choosing everything in it myself. I'd even paid for everything out of my own pocket, so I wasn't going to let anyone else enjoy the fruits of my labor.

Before leaving, I also gave the one housekeeper we hired a large severance payout before informing her, "I'll find you another employer. You won't need to come here anymore."

The housekeeper happily left with the money.

An hour later, William called. This time, his voice was no longer calm. If anything, he sounded furious.

"Holly, get back here right now and clean up the house! Otherwise, I won't hesitate to move Ivy somewhere else again!"

I simply ended the call and blocked his number for good measure. Once that was done, I gave my lawyer an invoice and a USB drive.

"Next Monday, serve the divorce papers at this address."

When Martha heard that William intended to send away Andy, her beloved grandson, she hurriedly scooped up the still-sobbing Andy. She ranted to William, "The housekeeper must've done a poor job of looking after Andy! That's the only reason why my precious baby would've thrown a tantrum. Why are you sending him away? You should be firing her instead!"She hugged Andy tightly and threw a fit herself, refusing to let anyone take Andy away.William felt utterly exhausted. He finally had firsthand experience of just how unreasonable and stubborn his mother could be.Martha was bad-tempered and was constantly nitpicking everything. She would often have a fit for no reason. William couldn't help but wonder how I'd managed to be so attentive and take such great care of Martha all these years without ever losing my temper. The more he thought about it, the more he appreciated everything good about me. He decided that when he saw me again, he wouldn't hold the humiliation I had caused hi

As it turned out, after William had left with Martha and Andy that day, Kayla kept stewing in her discontent. She couldn't accept being left behind, so she secretly followed them back to the Stewarts' hometown. She had planned to wait until the celebration dinner was over before making an appearance. As long as Andy addressed her as "Mommy" in front of everyone, she could secure her status as his mother. However, she hadn't expected to be surrounded by reporters the moment she entered the hall. The wheels in her mind started spinning. Since I'd already left, she figured that as long as she announced her true identity, William would have no choice but to go along with it and acknowledge it, too. Therefore, since Kayla had admitted to being Andy's wife, William couldn't contain the damage no matter what he did.The scandal over the CEO of Stewart Corporation cheating on his wife went viral overnight. The online community even mocked him for throwing a party to welcome an illegitima

Early that morning, Kayla dressed up to the nines. She even put on all the jewelry William had bought for her in recent days, and she couldn't hide the excitement in her eyes. When William came downstairs, Kayla eagerly tried to slip her arm through his, but he brusquely avoided her. Taking in her outfit, he asked coldly, "Why are you dressed so extravagantly?"Kayla stiffened, and her tone was ingratiating as she replied, "I-I'm Andy's mother, after all. Shouldn't I dress up for an occasion like this?"Frowning, William grabbed Kayla by the chin and shot her a warning look. "Kayla, I distinctly remember telling you from the very start that Holly will be the one recognized as Andy's mother. She's my wife, and only she can be his mother. Know your place and stay right here."With that, he released Kayla and walked out of the house. He didn't notice how Kayla's face twisted nastily. Her eyes burned with furious resentment. When he arrived in his hometown, William saw how well ever

After I hung up on William, his face turned stormy. We had been together for ten years, and I had never ignored him like that. In fact, this was the first time I'd ever ended a call with him.He assumed I was just trying to force him to placate me, so he gritted his teeth and snarled, "You've got quite the nerve, Holly!"Martha was even more furious than he was. She kept urging him, "William, no matter what, you'd better not forgive that woman too easily this time! Give her the cold shoulder for a while. Make her come crawling back and beg for your forgiveness!"Actually, no. Even if she gets on her knees and begs, it still won't be enough. You need to teach her a lesson!"After saying that, she looked at the completely wrecked house. Another sharp pain seized her chest. Clutching it, she collapsed back onto the couch, gasping for breath.Seeing this, Kayla hurried over and rubbed Martha's chest. In a seemingly casual tone, she remarked, "Martha, William, do you think Holly may be
